The hotel was very nice and affordable at $70 USD. We actually stayed an additional night and went snorkeling off the Great Barrier Reef. It was convenient to everything in Cairns. The shopping is expensive, but saving money on the hotel let us have extra for that. The room was clean though the hotel hallways are somewhat dingy. It is obviously and older property that has been refurbished to meet more modern standards. The baths have granite counters, there is coffee/tea service in the rooms, and a cash wet bar. The balcony looked out over the surf and the swimming lagoon on the esplanade.

Friendly staff. Bed blankets. Good location, felt very safe as a single female traveler. The staff was always very accommodating and helpful. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone going to cairns.

Very good location. Can walk across to the city central shopping areas. Almost all tour operators in the Cairns areas have pickups from this hotel. Swimming pool is good. Very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was also quite good.

The price seemed really good until we paid $5 each for "pool" towels to be cleaned; $20 for every hour of a late check out (our flights left at 7 pm); $40 to use the lounge to shower before our flight. The hotel was empty and they would not give us a late check out!!!! It's hotel policy is all I heard. The special rate included "a free breakfast" which was ONE breakfast and we had to pay for the other. A little misleading! The housekeepers were very pleasant but they only made one of our two beds one day and forgot to remove linens another day. Concierge was the only bright light - the gal has been there for 17 yrs and really knows her stuff. We booked two different tours through her.

I felt that the Rydges Hotel in Cairns was very poor a beautiful setting and location but the rooms were of ordinary standard and need upgrading. There was rust coming through the ceiing, the room was not what I would call clean to the standard that it should have been particularly being a Rydges and with the price that we paid. Very disappointed and would not stay there again.

Great location and friendly staff. Rydges Tradewinds is a lot nicer than the other Rydges hotel two blocks away. However, the jacuzzi only has cold water. You can use the hot water jacuzzi at the other Rydges hotel, but it is small, locked up behind a gate and hidden in a dark spot behind the fitness center. Otherwise, Tradewinds is a great hotel.

Appalling service. No valet/concierge service. We had to get a trolley ourselves and carry the luggage up to 5th floor. At peak check out time, only one staff behind the counter. Old run down hotel, must have been ok in the 70s. Avoid if you can.
