The hotel is nice. There are 3 Rydges hotels in Cairns, one right in the city center (didn't look very nice), and two others about a 15 minute walk from the city center and basically right across the street from each other. Our was a block further from the city center than the other Rydges. We were able to get breakfast included in our package (well, we paid $7 more total for our room to get it) and that was worth it. If you just wanted to go down and eat the buffet breakfast on your own, it was $25 AU, probably not worth that. Overall the rooms were nice, but the beds really aren't that comfortable. Really saggy in the spots that bodies lay all the time. We slept okay, and the rest of the room was pretty good, but that is my one main complaint. Found the front desk people alternating between nice and "frosty". Hotel was able to store our bags for one night while we were on a dive trip, so that was nice.

The hotel was great for my vacation to Australia. The ocean view can't be beat, and the rooms are clean and the staff is nice.

This hotel was very clean and in a great location for the price. I really enjoyed the view that we had of the whole town of Cairns. It was nice to be able to walk to the strip everyday, this cuts down on cab expenses.

Wonderful staff, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel could do with a snack bar, open during the day. Perhaps the pool bar could do toasted sandwiches. This would keep people around the pool for longer periods.

The hotel is located about a ten minute walk to the CBD and all the restaurants, not a bad walk at all. Also right off the Esplanade so if you have an ocean view room, you've got quite a nice view. This isn't a 5-star hotel but it's clean and the receptionists were nice enough to upgrade us to an ocean view room with two beds one night. All requests were accommodated and for the price, it was a great deal.

Good spacious room at a very competative price. A little out of the way but an easy walk. Dissapointed to learn on check in that credit card payment would be subject to surcharges; if a hotel chain wants to access a credit card company's customer base it should wear the charges not the customer!

The day we booked the hotel we requested ocean view high-rise and we ended up in a apartment with the floor level garage view and loud kitchen and personel surroundings. The 15a and 15 b apartmants were so putrid and ghosty look a like we had to complain in order to move out and get the better one .The lady manager was so kind and helpful for which we are very gratitude. Good on her and her lovely receptionist. However this should not have happened on the first day of our holiday . The saying of the first impression ever last must have been very true that made us (family of 4) to write the above lines. Sorry.

A little further to the esplanade / shopping / restaurant area, however was still walkable. This is the 3rd time we have stayed here and will do so again in the future.

Beds were comfortable but the furnishing and pictures in the room were a little faded. The kitchen and appliances were >10 years old. Less than I expected from Rydges!
