Stay at the Rutland Hotel SheffieldStaff very friendly, food excellent, room very smart and comfortable, but did not like the enlarged photo over the bed of the face that stared down. Would stay here again.

Stay at the Rutland Hotel SheffieldCustomer service was excellent but we were given the wrong room key at one point, which was slightly worrying for security. The room was lovely, but there were a couple of hairballs in the bathroom and the pillow cases could have done with a more thorough clean. The food was exceptional and we will definitely be returning to have dinner at some point. Overall, a very pleasant stay indeed, very friendly staff and wouldn't think twice about returning.

rutland hotelweird combination of very trendy room styling and out of date rest of hotel, but the building is very nice and the seating area in the garden, lovely. Staff very friendly and food good. Wet room stretches it a wee bit, but all in all a nice, quiet, enjoyable place to stay.

Rutland Hotel, SheffieldThe hotel was adequate. The room decor was very dark and the bathroom very small.

Lone Lady TravellerIf arriving after dark - there are two car parks - one small at the back of the hotel and with no indication as to where the second larger car park is situated. The small back car park is very lonely at night, without directions to reception.I had to ring the hotel from my mobile for a porter to collect me.There is no lift so heavy bags couls be a problem.

The Rutland was a very noce hotel. Clean with friendly staff. The room we had was very nice however very hot! We only had a small window and no air con. May be a problem in the hot weather.

Comfortable, quiet and spacious The Rutland is in a pleasant area of Sheffield - hilly, leafy and characterised by handsome stone buildings. The hotel foyer is quite pleasant, as are the other public areas. The main body of the hotel is typical of older buildings linked together for a new function, that is, somewhat rambling. This was not a problem for us, but might inconvenience the disabled.Despite the odd decor (for example, huge photrographs of jean-clad figures above the bed heads) and poor lighting of the bedroom, my wife and I were comfortable in our spacious double room (blissfully quiet - number 27), with an excellent shower in the bathroom, as was my daughter in her single room, with similar decor. The breakfast was generous and tasty, but the coffee was poor. The hotel staff were invariably courteous, pleasant and efficient, at reception, in the bar (a very pleasant young man, and good sandwiches) and at reception. We did not dine at the hotel.I would certainly stay there again.

Very expensive, tasteless roomThis hotel was very expensive and offered nothing to justify this expence. The bedroom was pokey and the decor was frightful - very dark and dismal with unmatching colours (mostly browns). There was a hideous photograph which took up nearly the whole of one wall and dominated the room.

Rutland Hotel April 2009Easy to find, plenty of parking in 2 car parks. Staff very welcoming and friendly, service excellent all through. We booked a standard double and got room 26 which was a lovely, large room. Nice and warm, with warm air available if needed. Flatscreen TV high on wall opposite bed gave us loads of extra floor space. Decor of room beautiful. Wet/shower room well-lit, good shower, but a bit small and as it's a wet room no shelf to put your toiletries - no problem to us, though. We noticed a single room and another double room being cleaned as we passed through the hotel: these looked much smaller than our room, we guess that the layout of this lovely building is such that no 2 rooms will be the same shape or size; we're sure there were lots more rooms as big as ours. No lift (no problem), rooms reached by little flights of 2 or 3 stairs. Nice and quiet, even though there were 2 weddings on. A good night's sleep, hardly any outside noise. Breakfast was cold buffet with good range of hot food cooked to order, and it was delicious. Proper mugs in bedroom and in breakfast room - much better than the tiny cups some hotels provide! The whole hotel appears to have been refurbished recently, so carpets and decor are lovely, new and fresh. Overall, very pleased.

strangest hotel i've used in BritainVery odd indeed, a massive (10ft across) photo of someone's feet hold in a flower over the bed, extra metal surrounds at the window but then normal victorian building stuff in the corridor. Friendly staff, ok restaruant, very convenient location. I'll probably stay there again

Good all rounderI have stayed at the Rutland several times when working at the nearby Hallamshire hospital. For the money this hotel provides reasonalbe to good quality of room, food and service. In addition its location situated near to the Hallamshire hospitals (approx 150yds) was very usefull for me as this was where I had to work for a couple of days. No driving required, just a stroll down the street. On the day of check out the hotel kindly allowed me to leave my car on the free hotel car park until I finished work at 4pm savind a full days parking cost. Plenty of decent restaurants nearby for all tastes. Would certainly use again.

One night stay was enough!A tired liiking hotel. Very noisy at night from the bar and guests going to bed at three and four in the morning.

Review of Rutland Hotel SheffieldMy stay was very comfortable and conveniently located near the city centre but far enough out to be quiet. The staff were welcoming, pleasant and helpful. The hotel had been renovated since my previous stay and this was really well done. The bathroom was excellent; the TV, hairdryer, iron and coffee/tea facilities were just right. The room was a bit warm, but nicely decorated and the lighting was good. The bed was ok - not too keen on the bedding which could have fitted the mattress better, but it was ok and I slept well. The breakfast was also excellent, with a large screen TV for the news, but it was not intrusive. The only slight negative (other than the bedding) was that there was no lift, which could be awkward for some individuals.

The bathroom was very cold and as it was a wet room, the floor was also flooded for much of the time. Other than that it was very nice: friendly staff, good breakfasts. We have stayed here before and will do so again.

Staff was very polite and helpfull. Not the cleanest of rooms i have stopped in as cups were not cleaned right. Cold in the corridors. Could do with a little up date modernisation, rooms was very taste full. If you like quite this is the right hotel to come to.
