The hotel staff went out of there way to get us the best room given the price we paid on Priceline. Would suggest again! The pool closes at 8 pm! And the hotel needs a jacuzzi. This was the fourth time I've stayed in this hotel over the last 5 years , and this last visit was the most pleasant of those experiences. The staff was very friendly, put my friend and I in a very nice room overlooking the ocean, even though our pay range on Priceline was not for an ocean view. Also the Mai Tais were yummy at the bar. Given that hotels around the Kona downtown are not the best on the island, you are definitely paying for location when you stay in a hotel around Kona town. I've tried several other hotels, and this one seems to be cleanest and the most bang for the buck.

Great service and very friendly staff. The hotel is the only one in the island in front of the ocean. Rooms are in good shape, clean and in great condition. It has had a great bar by the pool and also good restaurant from either breakfast, lunch or dinner in front of the ocean which can't be beat. Finally, the Royal Kona Resort offers the best Luau in town 3 times a week. Get ready to relax and enjoy Big Island!

This is the first time we stayed at this Hotel. We hadn?t been in Kona in years. Located within walking distance to the town and a number of restaurants. We got there late so several of the restaurants were closed or packed. There aren?t many options for someone on a tight budget. The swimming pool closes early around 8:00 PM in order to keep the place quiet and relaxed. I would like to have gone swimming but we got there too late. We drove in from Hilo visiting the volcanoes. Over all it was a great hotel.

Well our flight had mechanical trouble, and we couldn't even get to the island till the following day. I called the Royal Kona Resort, upon arriving in Honolulu and told them we couldn't get over to Kona until the next day, and asked if they would refund all or part of the money we paid. But they said, sorry we can't do that and you have to speak with Orbitz. So I am now finnally able to contact you, and tell you I will never prepay for a hotel again, as I am out $165. I even asked if I could just get a day room maybe for the last day here on the island instead. they didn't even look to see if there were openings, just said No. I have discovered that the real Aloha Spirit out here is very negetive. Amazing how rude people are here, and especcially since it is like paradise. If you are willing or can refund my money, I would be grateful, as things have been alot tougher since the ecomony has had such a down turn. Either way, thanks for you help, and lesson learned. Location. In desperate need of a remodel! I asked for a recently remodeled room, and was given a room in the Lagoon Tower. The first night that I stayed, I was unable to open the sliding doors on the balcony as the neighbors were chain smoking on their balcony. The smoke just ended up blowing into my room. The view was OK as I didn't want to spend twice the money for an Ocean view room when I was there on business. The tiles in the bathroom were chipped, the mini fridge had rust and mold on it, the carpets were stinky, and above all else, my right left got bitten up by bedbugs, seriously! When I complained, they didn't seem to take it too seriously. I will not stay here again!

We had a wonderful time. This hotel has 'Old Hawaii' charm. The setting was beautiful and the open air lobby exuded Hawaii warmth. We were in the older of the hotel towers...I think that's why we got such a great price! It was OK, nothing too fancy, but what else do you need when you are looking out over the beautiful blue pacific ocean? The beds were comforatable and the pillows fantastic. The room included a small refrigerator and little counter/bar area. We didn't feel 'stuck' in this hotel, either. We were within walking distance to many restaurants and LOTS of tourist shopping. Oh, and we can't foret the Louau (sp?) with all you can drink mai tais and a whole roasted pig! We had a great time!!

I've stayed at the Royal Kona Resort almost every time I've visited Kona. I've stayed at other hotels, but the Royal Kona Resort is so conveniently located near Kailua and the open air Farmer's Market. Everything is in walking distance! I tended to wake up earlier than my family, so while they slept, I took the time to walk to town or sat down in the open-air hotel lobby which was relaxing. Birds chirping, cool breeze blowing, smelling the flowers. While the Royal Kona Resort may not be a top luxury hotel (we also stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa which IS a top luxury hotel), the Royal Kona Resort does have it's charms, and you really can't beat it's location! It also has a small Salt Water Lagoon terrific for the children, which is where my 12-year old boys spent hours snorkeling. We never did make it to the regular swimming pool. Restaurant is great, and many times you can eat, sitting in the open air, watching the beautiful Kailua bay! Hotel staff was friendly, helpful and nice. It also has a laundry room which was convenient as we had a longer trip this time. Again, not a luxury hotel, but a very nice place to stay!!

Drab rooms (brown on brown on brown, hey, it's Hawaii, where are the colors?) Suspected maid just wiped off the glasses as two of the days there we noticed lip marks on them. Restaurant good with 20% discounts for guests.

The ocean view was great, no swimming beach but great wave crashing. Rooms need general maintance, air filter filthy, tub did not drain right. Great location but even the better rooms need maitinence, air filters, vents need cleaning, tub needs a good scrubing.

Have stayed a few times..great Kamaina rates, after staying in many hotels around Kona this is a favorite. Nice soft music in lobby, ponds, great pool, food, and nice, updated rooms.

There is not much beach here, but they have a small private lagoon that had a sea turtle and many fish that had wandered in from the ocean. Snorkling with them was cool! The hotel itself was originally a Hilton. It is a little older now, but no in bad shape. It's in a great location in Kailua-Kona with plenty of restaurants and shopping close by. There are fancier resorts you can stay at, but not at this price.

Front desk was very nice and helpful. We requested a room change so that we could have 2 doubles instead of 1 king, and they did this with no problem. We stayed at the Lagoon Tower and our view faced the Alli Tower and to the side, the ocean, which to us was a spectacular view. Great location for walking to gift shops and to convenience shops. There is also a lot of dining place you can walk to, although it does get pricey. I was especially amazed at how nice everyone was, they would stop and let us turn onto the street when it was very busy, you don't see that around here. We did see a couple large cockroach-like bugs outside our hotel, as everything besides the room are out in the open. They were crawling in and out of the rocks at the entrance to the front desk.

This is a fairly old hotel..the construction as well as the furnishings and carpets have a distinct "70s" feel to them. That said, the hotel was well worth the price we paid for it. We had booked a superior garden view room and it was a corner room. It had decks on two sides - facing Mauna Loa and the other side had a pretty clear ocean view!! Please do not underestimate the superior garden view rooms...in my opinion the garden view (i.e. of mauna loa) was more beautiful and unique than the view of the ocean which can get monotonous pretty quickly. Besides oceans are the same pretty much everywhere, but in how many places can you watch sunrise over a volcano while you sip your morning coffee? The location of the place is unbeatable. Kailua is a very lively town and a focal point for many tourist activities. We spent quite some time on Alii drive - the main commercial road of Kona. While we were doing that, we didn't have to worry about parking (hard to find!) -- we left our car parked at the hotel! I must add that parking is charged $10 extra per day, but the convenience was worth it. Don's Mai Tai bar is a good place to wind down after a busy day of having fun :-). It's right by the ocean and the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks is soothing as are the Mai Tai's!! :-)

Front desk people not helpfull at all had to argue with them about checking and everything. no service had to carry own bags to and from room no room service. had to pay additonal 10 a day for parking rooms small and dirty. outside not white and beautiful like the pictures on the internet they are old yellow worn down buildings.

Amazing price, nice view from room andbest location. Bathroom could have been in better shape. I have read horrible things about this hotel but decided to take a chance and was pleasantly surprised. The public space is great with amazing ocean views from the pool, lobby, bar and restaurants. I stayed in the Ali Tower which from what I understand is recently renovated. Stay away from the Bay tower since it has not been renovated and is where most of the bad reviews stem from. The location can not be better, directly over the water with just steps to the main strip. Hotel, price, and location was great. My only complaint is the bathroom which could use some work and parking is not free.

We stayed here from Jan 17th-24th after upgrading from a previous reservation. This location is unbeatable with shops, fine dining, and outdoor activities based within a 10 min walk from the parking lot. The hotel itself was the first 'superstructure' on the Island and does show some age, however the staff is very friendly and accomodating which more than makes up for an old TV in the hotel room. You're in Hawai'i, who wants to watch TV anyways? A couple notes of caution, they do charge $10 a day for parking on top of what you pay for the room. Additionally, the rooms facing the parking lot can be fairly noisy as there are businesses on the bottom floor of the hotel.

Stayed for two days to finish off a week in Kona. The location was excellent, the ocean view room was gorgeous. However, they didn't charge the 20.00 for parking since we had to put up with ants in the sink area and one of the beds..icky. We went to the breakfast buffett at 9:30 am...it was horrible. Cold food, little choice of items and very expensive. This hotel could be wnderful..needs work drastically. the bathroom is so old it cannot be cleaned iany longer without removing the grout. We were on the 5th floor of the Alli Tower..maybe we shouldn't have been!!! The pool was grat, the lagoon was fun as was the The Beachcomber Grill (bring money)
