It is the 3rd time I have stayed at this hotel as it is convenient when travelling by trainThe hotel is very busy but quiet, the buffet breakfast is the best I have experienced, the roomsclean and with all you require for your stay. The bar is pleasant and the retaurant adequateas I only had a light bite rather than a full meal. Will be staying here again. Fraser Gardiner

The hotel location couldn't be better located for someone traveling on the train- its literally out the front door and turn left. This is an old building and they have updated several parts of the hotel. Our room had a new bathroom (albeit small), VERY comfortable beds and it was a large room for European standards. There were a few maintenance problems and the hotel fixed them immediately upon request. Location is fantastic, but I thought it was a little overpriced for what we got.

A friend and I only stayed two days in Inverness. The hotel was located next to the train station, so finding it was a breeze and its location to the train station made it easy for the travel in and out. The hotel is right in the towns center and only a quick couple blocks from the river. We really enjoyed our stay. The bathrooms were updated and the shower was great. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet even though our room faced the train station. Our stay inculded the Scotish breakfast which was wonderful. I highly recommend this hotel.

We requested a non-smoking room and was given a smoking room. Reception were aware but said as we only requested a non-smoking room they did not think it important. They did however after a little while find us a non-smoking room.We were left at breakfast without tea/coffee/toast. We had to go and ask a waiter to serve us.The food at breakfast was good.

Location excellent, right next door to the station. Reception staff very efficient. Although hotel comfortable it is in need of a refurbishment. Hot buffet breakfast was fairly good but a bit hap hazzard in bringing out cold breakfast items such as grapefruit, prunes etc. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.

RecommendedWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location were staff were friendly and accommodated our requests as touring cyclists for bike storage with warmth and kindness.

adverage hotelCouldnt sleep due to drunks shouting on high street. Could also hear the couple in the next room talking. Room small but clean. Hotel staff friendly and convient location but with very limited parking. I would stay again but not one of my first choices due to noise levels.

Right in the centre of townIt's a grand entrance with good decoration. They gave us a room which has work man's tools in it and most of the bath disassembled. They soon rectified this by giving us a better room. The night porter did not seem very experienced and the rooms can be noisy with the windows open but that is not the fault of the hotel it's just that it's in the centre.

Very poor food and service. Do not eat at the ASH restaurant. Accomodation OK but very warmOverall I was disappointed with this hotel. The room was very spacious and clean but intolerably warm. No air con and a towel rail radiator in bathroom that cannot be turned off at even during a heatwave. Opening windows not an option as it's so central and noisy outside. The real downside to this hotel though is the food. We ate at the ASH restaurant on our first night and it was not cheap although the food was very poor. The starter was delivered within 2 minutes (never a good sign), the sauce had a skin on top as it had been sitting out for a period beforehand. The salad was wilted and turning mushy. Main course was basically a tiny piece of pork dressed in what tasted like Heinz salad cream (meant to be honey mustard) on top of a bed of cold lumpy mash. My wife's meal was just as disppointing. If I had paid £15 in a pub I could understand but this was meant to be a quality restauarant and we paid close to £30. This is the first time I have never tipped in a restaurant. Service was poor and atmosphere was miserable. Save yourself some money and get better food in one of the other resaturants close by. Breakfast service also really poor. On arriving at the dining hall we were told "sit where you like". Fine. We did, but had to call to get our table cleared and then again to ask for tea/coffee. It's a buffet but don't expect to get a great choice. We couldn't even get plates to begin with as they'd run out of these (also no brown bread, beans, orange juice apple juice). Everything had to be asked for. My advice if you're thinking of staying here. Rooms are fine (though hot in warm weather) but DON'T EAT HERE.

ReasonableI paid about £60 b&b which was great value. I had dinner in the hotel as I usually do and as usual was pretty disappointed. As a vegetarian the choice is poor and the food often poorly prepared. Deep frying vegetables until slightly blackened seems to be the order of the day for pasta dishes, pies and others. The staff however, with the exception of the cheeky, grumpy and downright rude old Irish barman, are extremely helpful and friendly and make it a pleasure to stay in this hotel. I'll definitely be back...but I'll go out for a curry next time!

mini breakarrived late afternoon, found hotel no probs, but parking space very limited, when we got to the room it was very hot inside no air con, only a fan, there is a window which we lift open at all times, weather unusually hot for scotland, location of hotel is perfect, went down for breakfast at about 9am,was ask to get breakfast before we had even been seated, because was told everyone had arrived at the same time and had to clear tables for us,breakfast so so had to wait for about 10min for fried egg it was buffet style breakfast

perfect stayWe visited Inverness on honeymoon and found that The Royal Highland Hotel was a wonderful place to stay. Clean, well sized room, friendly staff and right on the main shopping thoroughfare, plenty to see and do.

A traditional City centre hotel, conveniently located - especially for the rail station, to which it is adjacent. Our room was quite small, but for an overnight stay it was fine.Perhaps a little tired in places, the hotel notheless provided all the facilities we required. The food in the ASH bistro (within the hotel) was excellent, with a good menu).

Highland HotelA nice convient central based easy access to station.Accomadattion was good.only one complaint we needed some where to leave luggage and was offered a small cupboard cluttered with rubbish and no security.

Nice But OverpricedThough all hotels in Inverness are expensive this at close on £120 was not very good value. The hotel is OK and quite well maintained but when one is simply looking for a place to sleep it is overpriced for what it is. Bar tariff is also high and the buffet breakfast, though plentiful, suffers from the 'been kept warm for too long' flavour & texture.

Exactly what we wantedWe wanted a good hotel near to the railway station. That is exactly what we got. It was 30 seconds from the platform to the hotel reception. We had a friendly greeting on arrival and were informed that we could have a continental breakfast at 06.15 the following morning. We were booked on a train at 07.00 that morning and had assumed that we would miss breakfast as the normal opening time was 07.00.Other days we had the full breakfast. It was well cooked and provided a wide variety of choices. There were cold choices also. As it was buffet style, the portions were whatever you wanted them to be.Our room was exactly as we had asked and hoped for, large enough, on a high floor and looking over the little square in front of the railway station. We were there Monday to Thursday and had no disturbance from the taxi queue below. Weekends might be different. Our room was well appointed. A complete contrast with those abroad. I've never seen so many power points. The bathroom fittings looked relatively new and everything worked as it should. The high ceilings in both rooms gave a feeling of extra space. For the price that we paid, I think that we got an excellent deal. I sometimes wonder what the many complainers on these type of reviews actually want. I sometimes think that hotels and other service industries only receive feedback from their dissatisfied customers. We would love to return to Inverness and would want to stay at this hotel again. Maybe next time we will try the evening restaurant and bar. We were too busy discovering the wilds of Scotland to have time and so used the hotel mainly as a base.

Room was much smaller than I imagined. The hotel was ok- it looked a lot more sumptuous in the pictures online, but in reality was slightly shabby. Breakfast, again, was ok but not great- being vegetarian may have been an issue- the eggs may not have had as high a turn over on the hot plates and the tomatoes tasted of washing up liquid. Staff did not notice when we arrived and we had to seek someone out to get a pot of coffee. Reception staff were very helpful to end review on a plus point.

I've been in this hotel twice and have no complaints whatsoever.
