first room we stayed in had a very strong smell of indian food also the wall by the window the wall paper was hanging off and the wall had very bad mould on it.that was room 109.I asked to be moved so we were giving room 117 which was bigger, did'nt smell at all BUT was very hot even with the heating off!also there is traffic noise as the road is right outside.small car park also this car park is shared with the sister hotel the george hotel.breakfast was good though!

Good value, but.....Good value, adequate accommodation, but.... unknown to us, a wedding party were staying at the hotel !! This meant that there was so much noise, continuing to at least 1am, that we would have left had we not been offered alternate accommodation in The George hotel just round the corner -- this turned out to be considerably more comfortable, not to say a great deal less noisy ! And very little more expensive on the standard tariff.

Stag doFor a one night stag do this place is perfect. Clean double room with en-suite shower and a car park. You hardly spend time in your room for breaks like this and to get a fry up breakfast buffet included in the morning all for £35 is perfect! No complaints

A not so royal experienceWe stayed at this hotel for one night when visiting our son and his girlfriend in Reading. The hotel is centrally located but has very limited parking. We parked in a car park 5 mins walk away which cost £10 for up to 24 hours. Our room (6) was at the front of the hotel and sort of L shaped. The bed was firm and comfortable but the mattress had no cover other than the sheet and was not properly made. We had to re lay the bottom sheet and tuck it in. The windows had part secondary double glazing; one section of glass was missing. Additionally, two of the windows were open and could not be closed without climbing on to the window sill. We didn't sleep well. Though a Tuesday night, we were treated to the loud conversations and obscenities of club/pub leavers from about midnight to 3 a.m. This was interspersed with loud traffic noise from vehicles and especially lorries and buses stopping and restarting at the traffic lights under our window. In the early morning, we had the added dawn chorus of the peep peep peep...........of the pedestrian crossing. The shower was efficient but the space tiny. There was no remote control for the TV. Staff showed interest but did little. Breakfast was adequate. We won't return!

Excellent accommodation and serviceI would strongly recommend this hotel. For a town centre hotel, it was also very quiet and it is nice to have parking facilities.

Room & FoodPerhaps we do not get enough sun in this country but when we do, note that this hotel does not have air conditioning and only a small fan is provided. I had to ask to be upgraded to the bigger fan which just meant it was blowing hot air around faster!!As for the breakfast a bit inconsistant, Full English either undercooked or well done!!

The hotel was basic but comfortable. The only problem was that the TV came on at 3am, presumably had been set as an alarm for the previous guest, but never reset. My colleagues TV's also came on automatically at random times in the morning, but thankfully these were more respectable times! I would advise any guests to check that there are no unexpected alarms set unless they want to be woken up unexpectedly.

DisgracefulI asked for a smoking room. I was initially directed to room 218, up numerous staircases, of ever decreasing width and increasing steepness. The room was disgusting. Just because I smoke I don't see why I should be shunted to the smallest, most dreary, filthy and disgracful room in the hotel. I am a single woman and I smoke. I pay the same rate for a room as a non-smoking guest. Please don't treat me as a second class citizen. I am not the type of woman who likes to hang around outside hotels for a 'fag' in the middle of the night. Why am I being persecuted? I eventually had to endure a smoke free room for two nights. I will not stay here again. To add insult to injury the car park was so small it was almost impossible to maneouvre into a space. I managed, but unfortunately the person parking next to me did not and my car came home with two scratches that it did not have before staying at this place.

Quality of hotelHotel not easy to find with a small door entrance off the strret. Breakfast of good quality and ample choice, no other meals taken. Hotel appeared to be well run, but the reception staff were uncomfortably slow when checking out. Typical of an older hotel, but on the plus side, it is functional and very acceptable for business purposes.

Room I stayed in was basic but clean - the whole hotel could do with a bit of an update.Breakfast in the attached Indian restaurant was an experience - but one not to be repeated.

The main problem with this hotel is that it is in the one way system, and the road is closed until 7pm. The directions need to be much clearer. The hotel itself is fine, if a bit quirky because it is in an old building so room size is somewhat variable.Staff very friendly, rooms clean though small. good range of TV though £8 a day for wifi is poor value

The room we stayed in beared no resembelence to those pictured on the site. It was tiny and the 80's decor on 3 of the 4 walls was in serious need of an update. Because of the intense heat in the building, we had no choice but to sleep with both windows wide open and, with the hotel being situated on a main road, the noise levels where quite high. Our stay was in November and it had snowed in Reading the week before!!I also strongly advise to ensure you know your way to the hotel. The Kwik fit garage detailed on the directions is no longer there, so we found ourselves a little lost. I rang the hotel to get directions but the lady who answered had no local knowledge at all.The only plus points are the central location and the on site car parking.

the hotel was clean enough, however you expect single rooms to be smaller but this was like a shoebox, also the rooms were extremely hot.customer service was ok but check out was very slow.

The hotel, despite attempts at elaborate furnishing, is nothing special. My wife and I wanted somewhere easy to sleep after a special night out. The staff were friendly, no check in issues. Room was small but functional. We were lucky in that it did not overlook the main road, so no danger of being woken by revellers. The room was quite warm, so the lack of passing traffic meant we could open the windows. The breakfast is served in the indian restuarant, which wasn't much of a hassle (only a slight smell). The breakfast was included in the price and we both had a full english - it was nice, but I would not have paid a tenner. All in all, we were happy with the stay.

No lift - I was travelling with a heavy suitcase, tho they did offer someone to help me.Checked out Sunday at 7.45 am & breakfast did not start till 8 so had to make do with a continental breakfast served to the room. not a disaster but a pity

The service at reception was friendly if a little slow. The breakfast could have been served a little quicker but the man doing the serving was very industrious and did his best to hurry things along. The quality of the food was good and the restaurant was very clean and fresh smelling.

All good except the room, i think i got the worst room in the hotel.

I was visiting a family member in hospital in Reading the hotel printed me a route to the hospital and any other routes I needed. They booked my taxis for me. This was a very good hotel and have no problems with recommending them.
