The Royal Caribbean Resort - Although my trip was cut short by the impending hurricane the staff at the RCR couldn't have been more helpfull. Their first priority was my safety and comfort under the circumstances. I made some great friend in my short stay on Ambergris Caye and will be back to visit soon.

We stayed with my 14-year old son only two nights out of the planned 6. The cabanas are clean and the staff friendly. RCR is the very last resort on the way out of San Pedro town and quiet but far from everything. The resort itself is pretty barren: instead of the lush vegetation at most other resorts in SP, there are 3 palm trees slowly falling into the sea at the beach - the rest is more like saplings. The huge concrete swimming pool sits in the middle of nowhere with no shades, vegetation or, in fact, anything close by. The worst is the complete lack of access to the sea. Why would you want to fly thousand of miles for a large concrete hole in the ground filled with fresh water? At the beach there's sea grass and the water is ankle-deep. At the end of the pier somebody cleaned the sea grass in an area of a midsized room: now that is where you can "dip" in the sea - up to your chest. The Sandbar restaurant - your only choice for dinner, unless you rent a golf cart for 70 US/day - is quite good. All in all: this place is for people who only want to read a book all day at the beach, then have an early dinner and retire by 9.30 pm. While downtown SP is fun, filled with resorts that do have sea access and excellent restaurants like the Wild Mango or the Blue Water Grill. We moved to Ramon's Village for a nominally higher price and got what we came for in the first place.

Royal Carib is a great place to stay all the way around. Lovely staff that will help with absolutely anything. Booked all of our tours, scheduled flights, rented us bikes, called cabs and even recommended places to go locally. Pool is beautiful, bar is cute, good prices, 5 min bike ride to town or 2 min water taxi, internet onsite.

The Royal Caribbean Resort is a quite, remote bungalo on the beach. It is a one man operation, but he was very helpful with arrangements of tours, rentals, etc. The adjoining restaurant is excellent. Don't expect mints on the pillow, but this is a very nice place to stay for privacy and romance.

The hotel is a distance from town, which means you should get a cab from the airstrip or plan on renting a bike or golf cart. We rented bikes from the hotel, which was a really wonderful and easy way to get around. I highly recommend it. The rooms are simple. They do look a bit like army housing or a girl scout camp on the outside, but everything is nice and open, clean, and easy to settle into inside. Having each room as a separate building keeps things quieter too - we couldn't hear what our neighbors were up to the way you can in some hotels. The front desk will push you towards the "big" snorkel and tour companies, but I recommend booking those types of day trips through a smaller tour company . You'll have a much more personal experience, led by someone who really knows the area, and it won't feel quite so corporate. The bar/restaurant is nice, but more expensive than most on the island.

This hotel has everything you will need. It's basic so don't expect a pampering or luxurious experience, however it's a great value for the money. The little houses have living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, a bathroom with a large shower (no tub) and A/C which you will want to use. Overall it was clean and comfortable, and like having our own little house in Belize for a week. The staff is friendly and helpful, they carried my bags for me from our golf cart to our room and suggested activities for us. The location is prime, right on the beach and close enough to town. The rooms all have a beautiful view from their front doors. The pool is nice! It's clean and large, but a little cold. The ocean water is actually warmer. One thing to be aware of, the receptionist desk closes at 7pm. We did not arrive on the island until 6:30 and got to the hotel around 6:45. If we had been 15 mins later, no one would have been there to check us in to our room. If you plan to arrive later than 7, I would advise contacting the hotel direclty and asking them to wait for you or meet you upon your arrival. I would definitely stay at this resort again, we enjoyed it very much!

Royal Caribbean was a hike from town. We landed at the airstrip and judging from the maps that are available of San Pedro, the hotel was pretty close. We walked a ways on beaches with trash on them. We did rent bikes which was a great way to get around. An American group who stayed at the hotel when we were there rented a golf cart (from a rental company) and it was stolen and the rental company put $4000 on their American Express! We hypothesized that the rental company was stealing there own carts back and making $$$! That didn't help us to feel very safe. Ambergris in general is expensive. Pool was nice and rooms were clean. You cannot swim off the beach almost anywhere because there is so much seagrass.

The location to us was the best. Not far from anything. Everything is easy to get to, either by golf cart or even better walk down the beach. That way you see the beautiful ocean that words can not discribe. You absolutely have to go and stay here. It is not a super fancy hotel, but it is perfect for relaxing and ejoying a really great vacation. The staff are so nice and honest. We left a wallet there and it was Fed-Exed to us the next day. We are planning on going back in Apr 09. We got to see other hotels but for us this is the best, because there are not other large hotels next to, the closest is Victoria House, but that is really quit too. Go and stay and ask for one of the rooms that overlook the Carribean Ocean.

Our Cabana was always clean. The young ladies who did the work (everyday) were always smiling and concerned if we were having a good time. N was the front desk was just the best. He also always had a smile on his face. He went way beyond to help us have the greatest vacation. The people in San Pedro are very friendly and welcoming. Having a beach just out our door made this an incredible place to stay. We will go back! Utopia, TX

Splendid atmosphere. Extremely considerate staff. Spacious cabanas and resort as a whole. Just being gives you a great feeling. The beach bowling is novel entertainment. The pool is fabulous. A convenient jumping off point for seeing the jungle and rainforest. This resort is a definite must for a stay in Belize.

"A very well managed resort with a friendly and helpful staff that will do everything to make your stay pleasant. Nice, comfortable and clean cabanas. Friendly and helpful personnel as well as a cool and relaxed atmoshere was also found at the nearby Sandbar. "

I went down to this resort on a solo adventure for two weeks in the beginning of January. The resort was so beautiful with a cool and constant Carribean breeze. This place is right on the beach and has 40 private cabanas which are very spacious and comftorable with a kitchen and large bathroom. The best thing about this place was the staff for the resort. They were very helpful and showed me how to have a good time on San Pedro. They are great with setting up adventures. I highly recommend this place for a nice escape.

"We are a gay couple who felt very welcomed by everyone at the Royal Caribbean. The room/cabin was very nice, and the pool was fantastic. Beaches in Belize are not for swimming - sea grass everywhere. Club Fido (restaurant on premises) was overpriced, with amateur service and decent food, but overpriced. Easy access to everything we wanted ($5 cab rides)."

"San Pedro is not a booming metropolis. None of the resorts are five-star places. Having said that, San Pedro is a quaint place for a quick get-away. The Royal Carribean is a little farther from town, but 5 minutes and $5 US gets you where you want to go. The accomodations are a series of clean, well appointed bungalows with a very gracious host. The bar/restaurant, Fido's Sandbar, is a relaxed place to eat, drink, and hang out. The owners and staff at Fido's are also very pleasant. All in all a good place to relax, and well worth the price."

"The hotel was clean, new, and attractive. But, there is nothing to do there and you are forced to rent golf carts for a large expense if you want to go to town, etc. If not for X and his excellent customer service,we would have been very unhappy. Restaurant on premises is overpriced and ""so-so"" - weak drinks!!"

The staff were wonderful. But for visitors that may have early morning appointments such as myself there are no clocks or phones to know what time to wake up. The TV alarm/clock was impossible. No ice for guests--GREAT BEACH though.
