Royal Cambridge ~ Well !!!!!!Ok as a hotel . Nicely furnished lounge , clean rooms, but no great style . Relying more on its name. The evening meal menu was limited and not enticing . Breakfast was OK but the fuit juices and cereals were limited in choice. The room was OK but housekeeping needs to be more customer focused. Fitting a torn sheet to the bed was not accpetable. Overall the hotel was OK but so are overnight motels in France. If you are payng £ 100 or more per night then provide the service and meals to match.

Mid week stayHelpful staff, room was more than adequate and clean and tidy. A bit 'old fashioned' but thats what you get for the money.

Just average! We were two couples from a family staying in Cambridge for one night (a Saturday). We were seeking a central location to faciliate sightseeing. Royal Cambridge was selected on the basis of location. It was a so so hotel and the price at £104 for each room did not represent great value. Rooms were small (door could not open a full 90 ' as it hit the bed, the bed was ok'ish, decor ok'ish etc. The room did not have airconditioning and was on a main road - in summer I think you could suffer. Like many hotels it uses thick doonas with a removable quilt cover rather than sheets & blankets (a pet hate of mine - wholly focused on reducing the time to make up a room rather than the comfort of the guests) - this was way too hot so we did remove the cover and used that with the bedspread. Cambridge accommodation in/near the centre is very limited & expensive so if it wasn't too hot, then this might be an option.

Very friendly staff. The room was a little small, in that we could only just get round the bed! The bed, however, was very comfortable. The breakfast was very good.

I thought the hotel was expensive for what it offered. Complete refurbishment is required throughout - no airconditioning, shabby furnishings. Needs an update but keep in character with the age of the building. The bed was very comfortable though

You obviously have a problem with the rooms at the front of the hotel on hot days, and also from the considerable traffic noise which woke us up at 6.30 am. I would not want ever to use that room again in the summer, unless you install air conditioning and sound proof it.The breakfast food was not nice. The bacon was thick cut, unsmoked and undercooked, even though i had asked for crispy. the worst horror was the scrambled eggs which had been scrambled in cooking oil, not butter. they were inedible. Our night cost us £169.00 - yet we had to pay £1.50 for a newspaper as we left.... As in the US, at these prices the newspaper should be complimentary.i would try to find an alternative hotel when i visit again.

This was a nice hotel which appeared to appeal to the more elderly client. It was clean enough, but the room was small - the door opened and banged into the bed! The staff were charming, and tried their best. I feel that the hotel would benefit from a complete refurbishment - it is a beautiful building, and has so much potential. Just a comment - shame that we had to use a 'drinks machine' at breakfast with large mugs - this was not the impression the hotel wants to make. The food was adequate, though the menus made it sound more appealing! Overall, it was clean and tidy - fine for business use, but I would choose another hotel if I wanted a weekend break.

This is a terrible place! We paid the full rate and got shoved in a tatty room - the wall paper was all scuffed and it was generally shabby and dated - the TV was ancient! The room was noisy, being above the road and the sun shone straight in in the morning making it unbearably hot, even though it was a cool spring day (they don't have air conditioning). The breakfast room is very cramped and they hadn't defrosted (I know) enough butter - they serve it in preformed pats - and we were given ours frozen (it was rock hard). We had planned for my fiance to stay at the Royal Cambridge on the night before the wedding but cancelled the reservations - it really was that bad. We booked the nice new hotel accross the road instead!

The hotel was as assessed above. The problem was that their reservation system had no record of my LateRooms booking. Fortunately they had a room available. The room was the same quality as booked through LateRooms but sold at GBP 130 per night rather than GBP 155 per night as charged by LateRooms.as I paid for the direct hotel booking I assume LateRooms has not charged my credit card. I would appreciate a reply confirming this is the case. Edward Spry

Despite the time of year the rooms were way to hot... despite the radiator in the room being turned off and the window left open..Also oddly enough one had to run the cold tap for several minutes to get water other than warm to come out! Also at Breakfast we appeared to be invisible.....! There were 5 waitresses in our section at one point yet nobody offered to serve us until we called them over. Also I didn't recieve what I requested when ordering my breakfast (although it was of a very good standard and quality!)
