De Vere have built up a good reputation but this hotel falls well below standardWe stayed 2 nights bed and breakfast on a discounted late deal. On arrival the reception area was understaffed and as a result check in was slow as was the car valet service. We were offered no assistance with luggage and had to haul our bags up a flight of stairs and along a lengthy creeky corridor to an extremely shabby ground floor room badly in need of a refit. Whilst having breakfast the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door was totally ignored, obviously the cleaning staff are under pressure to complete their work by a certain time. The breakfast service and breakfasts were fine. Our first experience of a De Vere Hotel was a huge disappointment!

Excellent mini-break, excellent value and great spa facilities. Gardens are gorgeous and overlook the sea. Overall very nice stay there.

Stay at the DeVere Hotel, BournemouthAfter the initial shock of the dark room, the broken bed and the curtains hanging off we were disappointed with the food at the 'apparent' award winning restaurant Oscars. We ordered Goats Cheese to be presented with what can only be descibed as a 'cheese mousse'. I'm not sure it was even edible. After the meal we ordered a cheese plate which was advertised as 3 cheese. What we got were 4 triangles of mild chedder, a couple of ritz biscuits and some brown grapes! When the bill came we were charged for things we didn't even have!Saying that, the staff were very good and the items were taken off the bill. The reception staff were excellent and all the bar and spa staff were really lovely.Unfortunately, I'm not sure the hotel gave value for money so I don't think we'll ever be go back.

Avoid if you have a babyOn arrival we were not abale to park outside as there were parked cars all around, even though there was Valet Parking. this made it very difficult as we has a 6 month old baby in a pram. There was also no ramp so we had to carry pram up four stiars to enter hotel, (each time we went out and then again when we came back). We checked in and was given a room on the first floor, (small lift just big enough for pram and two people). We requested a nice view and a cot in the room, well we opened the curtains and all we could see was a big tree in front of the window, behind this was a public car park which was noisey all night we alarms going of and boy racers in the car park. Cot bed turned up and was a shabby plastic reavel cot with a wafer thin hard mattress. (baby would not sleep on it) this kept us awake all night. Next morning when we went to breakfast we were told the resturant was full and we needed to use the restuarant in the health centre in the garden, when i complained that we had a pram and there were more stairs to go up and down to get to the garded they gave in and got a table ready. There was an exhibition on featuring crematoriums and funerals which had taken over the hotel (we were not told of this when booking) which was very upsetting. all in all not a nice experience, therer are far better hotels in Bournmouth.

Happy customerOverall, a great stay. Staff could not do enough ! The only (minor) down side was that when we went for breakfast, they had run out of kippers and also the fitness centre's towels had not been delivered so we had to go back to the room to get some towels !

Faded and shabby grandeur with a nice viewI was really excited about staying a night at the Royal Bath but apprehensive after reading some of the reviews. The reviews were unfortunately quite accurate. The room was shabby - probably last decorated in the early 80's? (1980's unfortunately) in a faux Edwardian style. The windows would not close properly, and the reception staff said they couldn't do anything about it, but maintenance already knew about and were due to come the next morning...(so why put us in a room people had obviously already complained about?) When I complained again at reception on checking out, the receptionist could not care less. The breakfast was mediocre and the quality was reminiscent of a truckers cafe style of fry-up rather than a DeVere breakfast. Late rooms com clearly advertised the room rate as coming with L'Occitane bathroom products and bathrobes, but neither were provided in the room. However, the room did have a lovely view, and was very conventiently located in town. Next time though, I would stay at the Premier Inn 50 yards away and pay £70 a night for two rather than £120.

Another fine hotel in the DeVere chainMy partner and I have stayed in a DeVere hotel before in Hexham (Slaley Hall), and we had such a great time, that when the option of staying in another hotel in the same chain, we decided it would be nice to compare. The hotel is a nice Victorian building on the coast, which makes a difference to modern lodge in the middle of the countryside. When we arrived at the door of the room we were staying in, we did not think it would be good as we were right by the linen cupboard, but once in, we were impressed with the terraced balcony that our room opened out into. We did not have an excellent sea view, but we could still see it. Although, more concerning was the diners of the downstairs restaurants could see us on balcony. The room was exceptionally clean, and one time when we had gone down for breakfast, we were surprised by how fast the room service had cleaned it up. Breakfast provided the standard English menu, but cooked to a very high standard. All the staff were very friendly and helpful to our enquiries. Definitely worth staying in for the price we paid, and also in a very convenient location to explore Bournemouth.

Brilliant 2 daysMyself and my wife arrived on Thursday pm, finding the hotel very easily. Although the valet parking is £15 a night, it's worth every penny with parking in Bournemouth tricky and, they are very efficient.Reception were polite, friendly and efficient and we soon found our room. In fact all staff were friendly. The room was lovely, spacious, very clean and comfortable. We both used the pool which was of a good size, not to cold and after a two and a half drive was very welcome.As for food, well that was stunning with a selection of top qua;ity dishes for all tastes.With a wonderful garden too we both had a very relaxed time. Would recommend to anybody and if you are not sure look it up on the web.

Cut Stay ShortLeft after only one night. I specifically requested beforehand no feathers as I have an allergy but when we arrived we found feathered pillows and duvet. They changed them quickly, however I still felt them in the air. We also must have had the smallest hotel room on the planet, barely having enough room to move and the heat within the room was horrendous with the window being stuck and unable to open more than 3 inches. The ensuite was also tiny and the heated towel rail could not be switched off as this was generating too much heat. The water in the shower seemed to be a constant heat and we had little luck at cooling down. Our part of the hotel did not have air conditioning and was far too hot. We also had to carry our cases (no porter help was given) up a flight of stairs before we could reach the elevator! Breakfast was poor although service was okay. Car parking was done on a jockey service and one of the men reversed into my car on the way out - hotel stated that any car damage was not their responsibility even though it is driven by their staff on their property and they charged £15 a day for their car parking facility plus £3.50 to use my credit card. I have stayed in 7 other De Vere hotels without any problems whatsoever.

Quality of room was very bad for a 4* hotelThe room was in dire need of redecoration. There were smudges and water stains on walls. The toilet flushed when it felt like it and the sink taps were very loose and the extractor fan was not working. We had a fan in our room, but the heat was unbearable as the windows only opened 1 foot and we were in a 32 degree heat. The windows were not double glazed so we could hear the traffic. All that being said, the rest of the hotel and grounds were lovely and the service was fantastic, although the English of some of the staff was not very good!

South Coast breakFriendly and helpful. Ideally placed for seeing Brighton. A bit on the noisy side first thing in the morning what with the seagulls and refuse/bottle collections from pubs and restaurants in the street but not much the Griffin can do about that. Overall a very pleasant stay and we would return.

OVERATED ,,, AND POOR SERVICE tired from travel arrived at 3 oclock told room alocated was not ready ,not cleaned ? still cheerfull decided to check out bournemouth sea front at 5.30 returned to hotelyou guessed it ,,,, room alocated still not ready ,, by now we were tired and fedup this was to be a romantic break for my wife and i ,, i made it known to the reception that i was not happy i was then given a substitute room ,, i am not the kind of person who likes to complainbut in this case i had to ,,,

Stay at Royal Bath Bournemouth June 09Overall very good value as we received discounted rate. Location was excellent 2 mins from beach and town. Room was dated but clean, however , sea view was difficult through misted double glazing plus the room was very stuffy with little ventilation (no aircon available in hotel). Bathroom was very small - sit on toilet and your knees touch the door!! Staff were very friendly and helpful and to their credit they did try to find us an alternative room. Leisure facilities and gardens were excellent as was the food. So overall enjoyed our stay.

Lovely hotel, lovely locationWe stayed here for 2 nights and have to say it's by far the best hotel to stay in Bournemouth. The room was lovely, very peaceful and with the added bonus of a balcony (which we weren't expecting). I would definitely stay here again. The only down sides were having to wait over half an hour before being served at breakfast but once the food arrived it was delicious. Also I had to wait over 15 minutes to check out at 10.30 in the morning as the receptionist was busy checking people in to the hotel, which I thought was after 3pm so that took me by surprise. Although two other people were behind the reception area only the one person was dealing with the desk.

very poorFor the level the Devere group normally offer this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. No it isnt the cold ,under cooked ,pale ,uninteresting sausages that were served up at breakfast! The room was shabby and very tired. The furniture was worn,with handles missing . The carpet was almost thread bare. We couldn't open the patio door as the locks were broken. The bathroom mirror still had soap plastered all over it from the last tenant. There was a army of ants tramping over the bed on the evening we arrived.The staff were surly and uninterested in the clients. No explanation was given on verifiing the card on check in, on why they were requesting more than the room value. I was told \"Because thats what we do\". End of conversation.. If I was paying the full asking price for this room, I would have been bitterly disappointed. I have stayed in hotels were I have paid alot less and recieved alot more.

After previous enjoyable visits to the Royal Bath we decided to return there for our first wedding anniversary last weekend. We were extremely happy with the deal we got through late rooms. Prior to arrival my wife called and asked if it was possible for a sea view but unfortunately on arrival we were overlooking the roundabout and had twin beds - very romantic! After speaking to reception we were moved to another room with a sea view and queen sized bed without any problem.The breakfast choice was good but we didnt dine in the restaurant in the evening. We also used the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi during our stay and the staff were very helpful and friendly.Our only negative comment would be about the parking - it cost £30 for 2 nights stay which we felt was quite expensive and then when our car was returned to us it looked like every seagull in Bournemouth had dropped its mess on it! Therefore a further cost to get it cleaned which was slightly annoying!

A perfect weekend in BournemouthAn extremely comfortable hotel in a great location in a very attractive seaside town. Cheerful, efficient, helpful staff - but avoid rooms overlooking main road unless you can sleep through traffic/delivery vehicle noise. Meal in Oscars restaurant in the hotel was excellent. Very convenient for main Bournemouth attractions incl Bournemouth International Centre.

customer serviceThe staff there were extremley helpful and courteous to us. We had a few problems with the original room we were staying in and with no hesitation were moved. Over the weekend we came in contact with different staff and found them all very pleasant. Fantastic Service
