The Hotel Rouge was spacious, trendy, and located in a perfect position for our business needs. Our room was big and the bed was comfortable. Best of all, the staff was friendly, efficient, and took care of a problem I had with grace and care. I would definitely stay there again!

It's proximity to Dupont Circe and lots of activities.

We were lucky to pick the right days, so the room was cheap for three people (around 50Dollars per person) compared to what it has to offer. Rooms are great and clean and people at the reception are helpful although not very friendly.

After reading the other reviews I was very pleasently surprised at how wonderful the hotel was. Our group had 2 rooms, both very spacious and clean. The room decor was funky and fun and added to the excitement of our trip. Also, there were stereos in both rooms which was a nice touch. The lounge chairs and ottoman were very comfortable to relax in. I normally don't sleep well away from home but I found the beds to be extremely comfortable with crisp white sheets. The bathroom was sufficient with good water pressure and plenty of hot water in the shower. The weather was quite warm and the air conditioner worked just great. The front desk associates where all very kind, helpful and full of smiles. We needed a repair to my mom's wheel chair and within an hour the gentleman in the maintenance department had it repaired and returned to our room. That was above and beyond his call of duty! We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel twice and the food was great and reasonabley priced. Room service was quick and efficient. I haven't one complaint about this establishment. The only downside to the area was that the closest subway was a bit of a walk with one of our group being in a wheelchair.

When I made my reservation online I requested a foam pillow (i am allergic to down) when I arrived the whole room was full of down pillows, I called the front desk to request a change and was told that housekeeping was closed. I stripped the bed myself and spent the night using the two towels from the bathroom as sheet and pillow. Also I added a friend to the reservation and he was given a key by front desk staff as I requested, two days later his key was demagnetized when he requested that it be remagnetized the front desk staff had no record of him and refused to reissue the key until my return. My friend had to wait in the lobby until I made it back to the Rouge. The front desk person simply said that is was not her fault, because she was not the person who added my friend to the reservation. Earlier that day I had called from a meeting to add a second friend to the reservation, the front desk person asked me a series of inane questions to verify my identity , questions that could reasonably be answered by anybody via a good guess. The security measures were superfluous.

Our stay at the Hotel Rouge was such an enjoyable experience! The decor reminded me of a mod lovenest, with the overall theme using reds and whites. The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. Everything was clean and the complementary robes were a nice added touch. The staff was helpful and I was grateful for the valet parking, which was also very affordable. The location was great, dupont circle was just a short walk away, and a quick hop in a cab brought us to the Lincoln Theater and then we ate at Busboys and Poets; a great local bookstore/cafe. I know I'll be recommending this hotel to my friends, and if the occasion arises, I'd love to stay here again!

This hotel was a total find. Price was right, staff was extremely kind and helpful. Location is not super close to Metro, but within an easy 5-10 min walk. We had a 3 year old and a wheelchair-bound family member and had no problems getting around. Rooms were really large and recently updated. In-room honor bar and fridge had all sorts of goodies...candy, munchies, soda, beer, wine...pricey, but available if you're desperate! Restaurant and room service menu is pretty limited but the food is great and the service is outstanding. Area is very safe, we felt comfortable out at night. 20 minute walk to White House on first night...gorgeous! This is not a 5 star hotel, it's not brand new, it doesn't have every available amenity. But it is perfect for travelers looking for a clean, safe, friendly inexpensive place to stay while visiting D.C. We totally enjoyed our stay at the Rouge and would definitely stay here again.

The Hotel Rouge was very well decorated and designed according to its Rouge theme, offering a bit of a giggle at first look. It sort of reminded me of vampires or bordellos. I think that anyone who likes dark colors and modern furnishings will feel very comfortable in this hotel. I felt comfortable after the first 5 minutes. There were great big comfy armchairs, a small glass table, a cirular ottoman, a large desk, and plenty of dancing room in the room as well. The furnishings and storage options were great. We had a large room with a wall of windows, with clean red velvet drapes that could be closed all the way across the wall, individual airconditioning controls- which in DC is a must in July, fun mirrors, photographs, large tv, etc. The bathroom was very clean, the tub so clean that I opted for a bath one night. The bed was very comfortable, which is saying a lot for me- I have a back condition. We did miss the in-room coffee maker, but there were plenty of cafes on P Street for morning coffee, also we saw some hotel guests with coffe in the bar, so I assume there was coffee provided there. There were plenty of options for dinner on P Street and the hotel was within 3/4 to 1 mile of all of the mall attractions, which is not too much to walk. We did not use the valet service as we were there on the weekend and were able to save the $30 per day by parking for free on the streets. Overall a fantastic stay!

We were disappointed!! I've stayed at Kimpton Hotels before, and the Rouge wasn't even close to what I expected. The hip decor is a thin, cheap veneer that looks good in pictures but doesn't deliver in person. The room was OK, but the bathroom wasn't clean enough. The continental breakfast was gross. The staff did the bare minimum to be of service. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Very art deco and near every thing down town, the walk was a bit long from the airport put well worth at the end. Would stay again and recommend this to friends.

Convenient. Large rooms. Wii in lobby for kids. Very friendly staff 18% gratuity added to a buffet breakfast. Even coffee was self serve, there should be no gratuity and 18% is outrageous Great hotel, very kid friendly and very friendly staff. Convenient to all sights ... we walked to the White House etc. Would stay there again.

Every year we make a destination during holidays to a destination we have never been, and when possible, we stay at Kimton properties. Decor along with the usual impeccable service keeps us as returning guests. However, our stay over Christmas in D.C. at Hotel ROuge was horrible. The staff put us in a room with a heater tyhat did not work in 30-40 degree weather. We ended up having to switch rooms after an entire day of dealing with front desk person whose sighs and attitude were just rude! Cleaning entered our room every day even with the "DO NOT ENTER" hanger on the door. Room service menu was average until you call to order and they are out of everything except stale bagels which is understandable one day but not all. One of the more attractive ammenties was bar onsite...was only open once during our stay! I am not certain of the operating hours, but if it is there it should probably be in use when guests would like to use it. And finally, upon check-out, the clerk at the desk double charged the room even though she knew it was paid for through online travel website. Then made me sit and wait fro 45 minutes to get a credit made on my credit card and argued with me about priniting proof should I need it if my bill was not correct with my credit card company. Overall, it was not a pleasant stay. We felt as if our needs were a bother to the staff and they could really care less about the service we received. This property obviously needs a change in management at the very least to get back to the standard of Kimpton Hotels we are used to receiving.

The Hotel Rouge has a lot going for it: Great location (about 5-10 minutes walk from the Dupont Circle Metro station), with many bars and restaurants nearby. Comfortable beds and rooms, with free wireless internet and lots of desk space Interesting, comfortable furnishings Helpful, polite staff Negatives: Parking is expensive (although you may be able to find free street parking nearby at night or on the weekends) No pool Elevators are extremely slow I wasn't a huge fan of the animal print robes I would definitely stay in this or another Kimpton hotel in DC again. It is especially a good place for a weekend visit, as the rates are reasonable.

First stay in a boutique (Kimpton) hotel in quite some time -- got a handicap accessible room which was HUGE by DC standards and unqiuely decorated. Good: Location is perfect - near uptown, dupont and downtown, Bed was very comfortable, working space very adequate, all services working, cool mini-bar snacks, very attentive staff. Mediocre: small gym in the basement with 4 cardio machines and some dumbells. Great overall stay in May 2008.

Came to DC for the AUSA convention, didn't want to stay a business-oriented hotel e.g. Marriott Courtyard, etc. and found this little gem. Great location, right by Dupont Circle subway station with plenty of good restaurants, a CVS pharmacy, plus a Starbucks. I walked right down 16th St. to the White House North Lawn. All in all, happy with the stay. However, the hotel needs some basic maintenance, some of the fixtures were loose or needs some TLC. Some of the wall outlet plates were loose and the bathroom faucet was loose too. Nothing major, but it's good to be on top of it. I'll stay there again, especially if I can get a flight + hotel package thru Travelagent .

Having stayed at Kimpton Hotel in San Francisco & Seattle I very much expected an above average experience. That was not to be the case. The room provided was right next to the elevator mechanical room, that is very noisy. this was surprising since the desk clerk asked if we would like to be away from the the elevator. Then there was there were the following issues: 1) Damaged sink fixture in bathroom 2) Missing stopper in bathroom sink along with a slow drain in bath tub 3) No Hand towels on after the room was made up. 4) A Broken desk lamp 5) No functioning Internet access for over 12 hours Over all not a good place to stay. I had to say the hotel manager tried to fix some of these items, but there should not have been that many to begin with.
