Perfect location; hotel itself not so greatA word of caution before you book this hotel: make sure you know whether you are booking an apartment or simply a room. Both are available and we were disappointed when we turned up and realised that we had in fact booked a standard double. To her credit, the lady on reception did try to get us moved to an apartment but they were all booked on the day.The room we ended up with was basic and old fashioned. With the exception of an oddly mounted 19in flat panel TV, nothing about the room had changed since around 1976. And looking through the open doors when the cleaners were doing their thing, all the other rooms were virtually identical. Particular highlights included decaying lino in the bathroom (would cost all of £10 to replace), a crooked toilet (weird!) and a bedspread so old it looked like it had been purchased at a local car boot sale. Apart from these oddities, the room was reasonably clean and the service was ok. Nothing special but then it's not an expensive place to stay even in high season. By Bournemouth standards, it seems that this hotel is about average in the £50-70 price bracket in high season. My advice: if the weather is good you won't care too much about the room, so this hotel is fine. If the weather is likely to be iffy, you'll want to stay somewhere better.

Great location. Good value for money apart from the evening meal, which was over priced and a poor selection on the menu. The staff very friendly. We would stay there again.

So glad to have discovered this place!Friendly staff all smiling and keen to help. Very good food - an especially good breakfast with lots of choice. Worth paying a bit extra for a room with balcony and sea view - fabulous wide romantic outlook to the Isle of Wight and I could even hear the waves lapping at night! I'll definitely return with my partner for a few days break.

A very good, friendly hotel in a good location. Easy to get to by walking along the seafront from Bournemouth (not far, pleasant walk) , a wee bit round the houses by car - but being out of the main bustle of town suited us. Good friendly service, easy parking, very clean. If we go back to Bournemouth we'll use it again.

Great locationStayed in the hotel overnight after visiting the University with our son, we arrived late afternoon and were given a family room located next to the outdoor swimming pool! Staff were really helpful and check in was easy and quick! Room was great, good beds, tv, teac and coffee facilities, bathroom could do with a little updating but functional! We took the couple of steep hills down to the beach and walked along the promenade, ate in the Italian restaurant at the bottom of the hill which was fantastic! When we got back to the hotel had a few drinks in the bar and then went down to our suite which was very quiet even though there was a wedding reception going on! Great choice of food at breakfast, even satisfied our 17 year old son with hollow legs!!While there we also used the indoor pool, which was lovely and warm and completely empty.Overall, great place to stay and located very close to the beach!

The hotel is ideal for a quick weekend away - facilities are good and the staff are lovely. Location is great for the beach.

Small but serviceable room but good locationWe stayed a Sunday night and got an ok rate. Room was clean and perfectly acceptable and we had a balcony too - which if you stepped out onto you could see the sea (an unexpected bonus!) The mattress in the room we stayed in was not very comfy - quite hard. Off road parking was good. The beauty of this hotel is its location - just 5-10 mins walk to the beach down a hill. Would probably stay again,

Smelly and disappointingThe hotel was a real disappointment to all of us. As we arrived we could smell food odours which turned our stomachs and as we entered our room our 7 year old said, 'Ugh! what is that smell?'The pool was OK but the changing rooms were inadequate and small. The room was in desperate need of an overhaul and updating. The staff at breakfast were unfriendly and the breakfast itself looked greasy and cheap. I only had beans and toast in the end as everything else was dripping in fat.All in all, we will not be returning and would not recommend.

Excellent location, 5 minutes to beach. Great for a family break away, room good size for a family of 4 and quiet. The pool area was ideal and very warm our kids didnt want to get out and great that we could sit in the jacuzzi and watch them! Breakfast was fantastic, great selection.

Mostly good Times at the Riveria, BournemouthGood points: - Location - only a few minutes walk from the lovely Alum Chine beach just West of Bournemouth Pier - Breakfast was mostly OK - nicely done - Pool, jacuzzi & sauna - moderate size, but fine for a family or a couple seeking to relax - Evening meal - good quality I thought, (maybe a little over priced)Room to Improve: - Scrambled egg at breakfast unlike any I have ever seen - must do better - Room was a bit cramped (family of four) Overall - I thought the offering could be better priced to bring into line with other lateroom offers. .... but then it was a Bank Holiday booked a few days in advance.

Two-day BreakUnfortunately there was a leak in our en-suite bathroom within an hour of our arrival. However the staff were very cooperative in quickly arranging an alternative, and better, room for us. We weren't over impressed with the quality of the cooked breakfast but to be fair we did arrive in the dining room towards the end of the stipulated time.Overall, having stayed at this hotel before, we are still happy with it and will happily return again.

breakfast was really good, however had the most uncomfortable bed i have ever slept on, mattress to hard! and had a restless night sleep.

We arrived to find there were no parking spaces in the car park because of guests at a loud party being held at the hotel. We had to park 10mins walk away and haul our bags, and our toddler to the hotel. The room was cramped and smelt musty from the last occupants. The single bed meant for our son was placed up against a large open window (1st floor) and we spent the night worrying he'd open it and fall out. Hardly \"family friendly\". The bed was very uncomfortable indeed. The breakfast provided in the conservatory was very nice and the only saving grace. Wouldn't stay here again.

Hotel was ok, but rather pricey for what it was. I have had much better deals through Laterooms.

The hotel is close to a lovely beach at Alum Chine and has facilities on the premises for swimming execise and dancing. Music is played in the main bar area which is quite nice. The bar staff were pleasant and helpful as were the reception staff. The bedrooms were dowdy and dull and require decorating. the beds were worn out and very uncomfortable and this was the view of several other guests. Lots of late night noise from people coming and going. Overall reasonably good facilities and location. Bedrooms are the most uncomfortable i have slept in in this country. if comfort formed part of a star rating it would not have one.

The stay was fine, the double bed in room 119 urgently needs replacing, i have never slept on such an awful, noisy and uncomfortable bed in all my time. i have needed medical treatment because of how bad it was. That unfortunately ruined our stay!!!!

Overall we would stay there again due to where it was placed for the beach at Alum Chine. Indoor and outdoor pools great for childen and adults the big downside was our room/ensuite too small for it to be called a family room and too hot. Our evening meal in the restraurant was very slow especially with our desserts due to other functions ie. Wedding party & BBQ and were informed the kitchens couldn't cope, which really shouldn't be our problem. this hotel is ideal for young children.
