The hotel was very well landscaped. Some of the staff was friendly, however most of them did not seem to care about Customer Service. Our A/C did not work for 5 out of the 7 days. We complained to the front desk the first day and it wasn't fixed for 5 days. The dinner reservation policy is horrible. They only accept reservations at 8:00AM every other day. The beach was nice. The room was large, except two double beds DOES NOT equal a King!!

This was our second time at the RUI tropical bay we went 5/13-5/20. They have made some really nice updates from last year. They have name brand alcohol like absolute, bacardi etc which makes a big difference as last year we were a bit tired of all the Rum. The ONLY beer they have is red stripe. The staff are really nice, the pool is great and the beach is amazing. We spoke to so many people who said they had been to Mexico, Dominican and said this was the best beach they'd ever seen. It is well worth the additional money as the other RIU Club Negril is not as nice, we met several couples from that hotel who said they wished they'd paid the extra money. Entertainment is okay, breakfast and lunch were really good especially the Jerk Chicken, but dinner buffet was hit or miss. The food was always over seasoned, the meat was very fatty and covered in salt. Try the restaurants as you might have better luck, you just have to be in line by 8am. We also flew spirit airlines for the first time. The seats are cramped, and the floors are a little sticky, but we left and arrived ontime, the people were nice and we got to sit together and didn't pay the additional fees. You have to pay to check your luggage so look out for this hidden cost. If you want to guarantee your seats you will have to pay a fee online before, also a hidden cost.

We arrived to a moldy smelling room, smothered by baby powder smelling air freshner. It was 5:15pm. The dining room was closed until 6:30p. 24h room service menu was limmited. There were 4 sandwiches to choose from, which all included cheese. I am allergic to dairy. After 30mins on the phone we were able to get a plain chicken sandwich. BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER left a lot to be desired. I have eaten better carribean food in NY. We were never able to get early dinner reservation. Yo have to wake up by 7a to do that on a daily basis. We were on vacation. As a result we ate at restaurants in the area. Taxi service was over priced. Round trip to the dowtown shopping area was $20 ( he took our money up front and he was 30 mins late picking us up. We were forced to wait for him or pay for another cab). We paid it the first day. We later found out we could take a local cab privately for $5-$7 each way or $1 each oneway with other people. Internet and phone service were extemely expensive. Our luggage was lost. It cost us $1 US/min to make a local call to the airport and $3/min to call Delta's 800#. I forgot how expensive internet service was. I was so turned off. However we did find a hotel (Rayon's)with free internet service. You may use there computer or Wi fi. The food was also great there. Overall, we loved Negril. However we will not be sating at the RIU again in the near future. The hotel was beutiful. However there is something to be said for excellent service...this hotel lacked.

Having stayed at the Riu Palace Pacifico in October and enjoying it immensely, my husband and I decided to book the Palace Tropical Bay. Let me first say that I love Riu. The mini bars are fanastic, the service is superb, and the complex is normally VERY clean. I just don't think that this hotel should be a Palace. In fact, I would think that Riu Negril, right next door, is more of a palace. Or Riu Ochos Rios where we were served Lobster twice in a week. I mean this place didn't even have jacuzzis! Two beds pushed together does not equal a king. The pros about booking a palace though are top shelf liqours and the ala carte restaurants. And I still had a wonderful time. The service is impeccable and the scuba caribe shop is great. Bring mosquito spray!!! And avoid bottom level floors where mosquitos are most prevalent.

The resort itself was fantastic, beautiful clear blue sandy warm water. The staff was exceptionally superb, the food was super delicious, specialy the sushi bar. Even the buffet was awsome. The newly renovated room were very nice. No problem with the AC. We were 4 couples and we all wish we could still be there. We travel once or twice a year to the carribean. It's was our first time in Negril at this hotel but our 2nd time in Jamaica. Take from me, been all over. Told the wife that I had finally found my resort after 15 year's of traveling. This is the one.

I had a great stay at a Riu hotel in Cancun a few years ago, so when the Palace popped up on my Orbitz, I was definitely interested. I was not disappointed... our room was 5 star, the staff was beyond friendly, beach and pool were beautiful, and the food was on par with any other all-inclusive resort I've been to, if not slightly better. If you've never stayed at an all-inclusive resort before, you should know you're not going for the culinary experience. If you're extremely picky, this may not be for you. Let me tell you what you do get... a worry-free vacation where you don't have to balk at every $10 margarita you order. You can eat and drink yourself to death and not feel gouged. Breakfast is served in the main buffet room... smoothies, made to order omelettes, english breakfast, fruit, cereals... anything you could possibly want for breakfast and things you may not even know you wanted. Lunch is out by the entertainment stage... salad bar, nacho bar, sandwiches, burgers and fries, Jamaican food, etc. Slightly less variety here but your stomach will be full. For dinner there are options.... first is the main buffet. Perfectly tasty, a wide selection of food. There are also four restaurants... Italian, Fusion (modern style seafood, meat, nothing too crazy), Japanese, and Steakhouse. I thought the Steakhouse was the best meal I had there... I did not try the Japanese, my sister is not into Sushi. You will need to rally at 7:45am by the stage to sign up for either a 6:30 or 9pm time. Most people in line early want the 6:30 it seems, but don't think you can roll over at 8:15 and have your pick. Early morning reservations will actually be good for you because you'll also need to put your towel on a pool or beach chair at this time. Again, show up at 10am, there will be no pool chairs for you and you'll be lucky to find a beach chair. This resort seems to cater more towards adults though I did see several children... most looking bored out of their minds at the nightl

Considering we had major problems by booking through Travel agency, this resort was fantastic. Our son was getting married at another resort that was booked full. We went to the other resort for the day. That made us even more impressed with Riu Tropical Bay. The rooms were very clean. The staff was very polite and helpful. The food was not fantastic but I'm very picky. I thought it was better than the food we were served at my son's wedding dinner, though. We were only there for a few days but are planning to come back with the rest of the family.

This was our first vacation in Jamiaca and had stayed at other Riu's so we knew the level service and accomodations to expect. We were greeted at the front desk is a tropical drink. We had no problems with room and it was realdy when we arrived (late afternoon). The room did not smell musty and was kept clean, plenty of towels. We have been to many beaches in the Caribbean and have to say that this was the most beautiful beach we have seen, sunsets are beautiful! The food was ok, disappointed that the fruit selection and quality was not as good as we had experienced at the Riu in Cancun. The shows were very amaturish and they only had one large bar in the evening, which is where the entertainment also was. Being an all inclusive hotel and miles from anywhere, we felt like we were being held hostage in the evening to watch the shows since there was nothing else to do. You can get taxi's into town but were advised not to, that it was not safe even for the locals. There are pros and cons to every resort and after walking the beach and looking at other hotels and their beaches, we were happy to be where we were staying. I would go back but maybe for a shorter duration.

Loved the view and was treated to a wedding almost every day. Our balcony overlooked the gazebo in the yard where they held some of the wedding services. The people were friendly, lovely, polite, and complimentary. The only minor issue we had was a leak in the bathroom and later the mini bar area. It was fixed after it was reported. The other thing was that the fridge in our room was broken and never fixed, but we didn't follow up on getting that fixed because there was plenty to drink at the bars an ice was available if we found that we needed to cool our drinks.

Upon reading some reviews don't be thrown by the bad comments. Such a beautiful beach! The staff has always been great! Not one complaint. My only complaint is that it is not sunny all the time. Traveling with three children and they love it also!

Me and my girlfriend had a nice stay at the Riu Tropical Bay with a few exceptions. We were there for 7 days. Upon arrival the hotel staff were friendly and that continued to be the case during our entire stay. The food was decent, however the variety of foods didn't change much from day to day. Also, you have to wake up early everyday if you want to book reservations for any of the private restaraunts and the long line builds up fast. We used the gym a couple of days when we were there. Some of the treadmills were out of order but the gym was free to use. The water was so warm. Weather was decent, ranged from 80 - high 80s everyday. But it would downpour everyday from 1:30pm for about an hour. Just about everynight there is a show starting at 9:30pm which was nice to see. As for the hotel room, it was nothing spectacular. We tried to keep the room tidy on a daily basis to make it easier for the housekeeper to clean. There was a high step into the tub and the showerhead sucked.

To sum it up....I absolutely loved my stay. The staff was excellent. A very cheerful upbeat environment. The entertainment staff did everything they could to get you involved in activities. The food was excellent and the drinks were great!

The beach was incredible, fabulous sand, calm water, super friendly staff, wicked clean and lots of opportunities to win free rum. Also, the electrical outlets adapt to several types of plugs. I totally will stay here again. One con: Mosquitoes - I suppose you'll find this everywhere on the island, just bring some insect repellant.

The Riu Tropical Bay is a very nice resort located right on the beautifil Bloody Bay in Negril. Check-in was very quick and simple. We got very lucky with our room, it was on a second floor and had a view of the sea and beatiful sunsets. Rooms in this building were recently renovated and had all marble bathroom with two sinks. Our Room was beatifully decorated and had a new flat screen TV. Food quality and choices were really good in this all-inclusive resort. There were 2 pretty small pools, but with such a great beach - we did not even try swimming in pools. Water in one of them (with the bar) looked merky, another pool with clear water was mostly used for pool walleyball. The only thing that we did not like much was the nightly entertaiment, it was very medioke quality. Everything else we liked very much. This resort is relatively small in size, but is very nicely decorated, everything is located very close, which was very convinient. We will highly recommend this hotel/resort to anyone, and would like to come back there in a future.

Rooms smell so bad you couldn't breath!! The curtains were covered in mildew which was very nasty. Don't stay here if you want real Jamaican cuisine!! Food is very bland!
