Beautiful room, beach. Service crappy. The mostly black staff seemed to cater to the white guests & the black guests had to ask for service. We complained & basically got the run-around. Finally spoke to the Asst. Gen. Manager Oliver & he was rather dismissive. The women on staff were outright rude & although we e-mailed a complaint, no one ever got back to us.

The hotel itself was very nice, but the front desk staff and service was terrible. They were not helpful or friendly. Our room was never cleaned before 5:30 any day that we were there. The food was also not very appealing. The foods that were supposed to be hot were usually cold and the foods that should be kept cold were generally room temperature. The reservation system to eat at the nicer restaurants at the hotel was also completely worthless. You have to get up and downstairs by 7:30 AM in order to have a chance to eat at one of the nicer places, and it is almost impossible to get a reservation at a place for any time before 9:00 PM.

Clean, many open spaces that make ocean view accessible at almost all areas, friendly staff, good water pressure and hot water. Restaurants requiring reservations had slow service. Meals were not any better than the buffet style meals. This was our second stay at the Riu Ocho Rios Resort. Customer service aesthetics, and the maintenance of the hotel has been consistent. We will stay there again and would consider staying at other Riu hotels worldwide.

Enjoyed the RIU, our experience was very good. Food was good, grounds were excellent and the hospitatlity was good. Only downside was getting up at 7 am to stand in line for a dinner reservation daily if you wanted something other than buffet. Duns River -Cool Runnings is way to go, went to Ochi- cab from hotel expensive, but once there you can work better deals- bus stop right outside gate $1 US to town vs $30 US cab fare. If you are smoker bring cigarerttes $11 US per pack would stay again and would recommend to friends- this place put Sandals to shame.

we were a young black m/f couple going to jamaica for the first time and made a great decision with this resort. Food was good for the most part, the resort was nice and huge. We ate and drank all day with no problems. anytime we wanted a full meal or something to drink (alcohol or not) it was there and fresh. Make sure you have on the proper amount of sun screen no matter who you are!!! if you can afford your own snorkal eq. bring that too. they provide eq for you but it my not be the cleanest thing. the beach is wounderful and the local were no problem at all. for couples wanting to get freaky, there will be kids on the resort so for any "free spirited" nudeness you may want to go somewhere else.

If you've stayed at the Riu in Cabo San Lucas, you will be dissapointed because this one is not as nice. I would recommend not going to this one if you have stayed in the Cabo one. If you haven't stayed there, you'll probably think this is one of the best hotels you've ever stayed at. Great beach and pool areas. Buffets are great. Definitely request room on the quiet pool side. They are all Junior Suites and Suites, but if they have any available, they will give you free upgrade. The rooms on that side are more updated, and you don't have to listen to the entertainment team on their P.A. system every day shouting at people to play games.

Beautiful setting, loved the all inclusive, food did not meet my expectation. The hotel staff really makes this resort a one of comfort and enjoyable. They went our of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The facility was nice but the people made the resort.

I had visited Jamaica last October and stayed in a "so-so" resort, so I was a little worried about going to Jamaica again for a friend's wedding. I was blown away by the Riu resort the moment I walked into the lobby. Lovely place, beautiful location, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Food was very good. Drinks were very tasty. I wished that they served some U.S beers, though. Rooms were very tidy and nicely decorated. You do hear some noise through the door, but not so much from your neighbors. Don't worry, you can always rest on the loungechair by the pool. The beach is very nice. The Entertainment crew was a lot of fun - I don't know where they get their energy. I highly recommend this place. I was sad when I had to leave to go home.

Very nice accomodations and the food was very good for mostly buffets. The specialty resurants Sir John and Mammalee Bay were excellent. Down side was everybody asking for tips at the water activities shack. (None of the hotel staff asked for tips) Hotel was clean but is very large with 2 excellent pools and a very nice beach.

Nice hotel, nice resort, buffet became repetitive real quick. Had to wake up by 6:30am if want to get in line to sign up for specialty restaurants. You're on vacation, you don't need/want to wake up that early. Not sure what the reasons but if they move the time to 10am for example, it wouldn't kill them. Requested a room with 2 beds. Received 1 bed instead. Asked to move. They moved us to another room with 1 bed. Next day asked to move again and they moved us to a room that had a defective air conditioner. We gave up. Can not believe that their system couldn't tell which room has what number of beds. We were on vacation and decided to just enjoy the remaining stay. Everytime we go up to the front desk, the male manager pretented to whisper something with the staff and not be accomodative with their looks at all. Although in Carribean, wish they have more circulated movement in the Chinese restaurant.

The beach is picture post card! the food was great. The entertainment staff were fabulous. They need to include more kids inspired meals. This was my second trip to Riu ocho rios with the wife and kids. The kids love the hotel with its beautiful beach and pools. Since my kids are picky eaters , they mostly survived on the sweet sugar cane served at St. Anns Restaurant and the jerk chicken. The JERK CHICKEN! Now, thats the best foodat the Riu. they need another jerk shack close to the deluxe wing. The staff of the hotel are hard working, friendly and on top of their game. The alcoholic beverages were great but do not drink the wine. They could not have found a poorer quality wine. I enjoyed myself so muchI want to visit all the Rius' in Jamaica.

My husband and I went here for my sister's wedding on the beach, which was beautiful. The Riu wedding coordinators were helpful, organized, and professional. They did their best to supply all of my sister's needs. The Riu is extraordinary! There plenty of activities. The entertainment is wonderful. The service personnel at the front desk, the waiters and waitresses and cleaning staff were professional and courteous, for the most part. However, the Riu operators were not always friendly when calling for information. It is a good idea to take plenty of single bills -- it is difficult to get change for American dollars. Tipping is appreciated -- the service staff depends heavily on tips for their livelihood. The tiled floors and wood trim throughout the facility was beautiful and was so much better than carpeting; one reason the Riu was able to keep things so clean. We were impressed to see someone actually cleaning the light fixtures along the veranda. The view was superb from the balcony of our standard room. However, we did have to ask them to replace washcloths and towels a couple of times. The buffets were a great mixture of Jamaican and American choices -- most, very good. The ice cream was creamy and rich. But, the desert table needed more variety -- everything was soft -- too many cheese cakes and mouses. Make your ground transportation reservations to the airport at least two days before your departure -- the buses fill up quickly- you pay for reservation in cash.

We went for my sister 50th birthday as our family vacation. We love the hotel and the rooms were very beautiful. I am a native Jamaican and love to visit the different hotel in Jamaica but the Riu in Ochos Rios was not one for the best food served and entertainment needs improvement. First the food was all right but not the true West Inidia food you are expecting to get when you visit the island. No theme night for different kind of food, any beach party or dinner on the beach that is what make going to the island different and fun. All the food was not really gear toward childrenn not much of a choice for little ones. It was very hard to find things for my eight year old son to eat. Not a kids friendly food served, sure they had pizza and spaghetti but was not the best looking pizza to eat. We make reservation to Sir John for my sisters birthday which she really enjoyed but again the menu was not for little ones to enjoy. The service and waiter were excellent at the Sir John resturant. Now for the entertainment part at the hotel was not one of the best. They need to improve the nightly things to do. My seventeen son was even disappointed regard the nightly entertaiment not anything to do in the evening. They need more calypso music on and off the beach. It would be nice to hear calypso playing in the lobby after all you are in the island. Again have a beach party function in the night and enjoy your visit in the island. The hotel setting is beautiful but not the food and entertainment part.

The hotel was beautiful. The food was tastless. It was a hassel booking into the alacarte restaurants. You had to be in line at 7:00am to get a seat. If you didn't get into a alacarte you were stuck with the buffet. None of the food impresed us at all.

We stayed at this resort for 5 nights /6 days and LOVED just about everything about it! The staff were super friendly and even took the time to learn our names! There were (10) of us in the group and no one had any major complaints! The food (St. Ann buffet) was good just about every night (differet themes) but the specialty restaurants book up too fast! The beach is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and the pools were awesome as well! The activities available were endless and not very expensive! The opportunities for FUN were endless! We had a bit of a mosquito problem in our room but it wasn't enough to ruin our good time! This was my second stay at a Riu resort (stayed in Cancun in '07) and I think I'm quite addicted to Riu now :o) I'd go back to Club Hotel Ocho Rios in a hearbeat! A+++++

The Riu at Ocho Rios was a wonderful place to stay. Once you get to the main lobby for check-in you will see how nice it really looks. Check-in time was about 20 minutes for my party of 4. I e-mailed the resort ahead of time to request adjoining/adjacent rooms with king-sized beds, and I did get adjacent rooms with king beds. I had the standard rooms I'm guessing with the white all-inclusive wristband we had to wear our entire stay. Food was good, nothing really great. The jerk chicken was tender and juicy, but I wasn't crazy about it. It's true that most of the meats are fatty, but it was OK because I just ate around the fat. Plus those pieces are the most tender. The entertainment isn't that great. At least for my stay during a wednesday-sunday. I saw a bob marley documentary movie, some dace acts, live bands, and a children performance who stayed at teh resort. Seats fill up quick for the performance area, but like I said, there's really nothing that great to watch. There are bars at the resort are plentiful, usually with enough bartenders to get around to your order. They don't press for tips really, and in fact I don't think any resort employee did during my stay. The employees I encountered were half and half when it came to service. Some looked like they were glad to serve you, and the other half seemed like they dreaded being there. No big deal to me as long as I get what I ordered. I usually left a tip for meals and sometimes for drinks. I didn't really use housekeeping besides asking for new towels, and left them a tip when I left. There are people that try to sell drugs/souveneirs to you on the beach, but I just politely declined each time, and all was cool. "No Problem" and "Respect" is what you'll be hearing a lot. And of course "Yah mon." Sometimes I felt like I was mocking them when I try to say it back, but it's cool. There are plenty of beach chairs all day long, but at the pool you may have a do some searching. Especially near the pool bars. You ha

we just returned from our stay at riu ochos rios. we had a great time. the food was the best we have ever eaten on a caribbean vacation! the pools were great. the beach was beautiful. everything was constantly maintained. the entertainment was honestly the best we have ever seen on a vacation. the entertainers were personable and made sure you were having a great time. the only negative thing i would have to comment on was you could hardly ever get one dollar bills so you could tip the people that were outstanding. we would definately return to the riu.

When I booked my boyfriend and I at the Riu Ocho Rios, I was expecting a five-star resort with comparable customer service as well as a great time for our stay in Jamaica. What I got in return was a mediocre resort with too many people and terrible customer service (actually a lack of really, any, customer service)! Then, to aggravate things even more, my camera was stolen halfway through our trip with pictures taken of the wedding that we had come to be witness to. When we tried to tell security, we were told that if we can't find it, then we probably never will by a security officer. We asked to speak to the manager of security on hand and waited at least 2 hours before he could see us - how frustrating! The other thing that we learned when we got there is that those various restaurants that are advertised in the description must actually be booked each day and the only way to book them is to stand in line at 7am for over an hour to do so. What an annoying discovery! Of the five restaurants that they had, 2 were only available to the "deluxe" rooms and the other 3 were always booked by 9:30am. Withstanding the resort experience, the island of Jamaica is a beautiful one...the beach was amazingly refreshing and relaxing at the same time and we experienced the natural beauty of their Dunns River Falls. Overall, a great trip but I can't say that was because the staff at the Riu made it enjoyable in the least bit!
