This was a relaxation trip for us and that is just what we did! The staff was very friendly and promptly took care of anything you needed. The food was great and we enjoyed the pool area the most! would recomend this place to anyone!

This place would have probably gotten a good review if I hadnt gotten bitten by bed bugs, my lower legs are covered in bites, I also have them on my face, its disgusting. I contacted the hotel notifying them of the issue (the reaction to the bites didnt occur until the departure day) and gave them a chance to rectify the situation. I received no reply. I visited 3/4 to 3/10/09. The rooms were adequate other than the flesh eating insects and insufficient hair dryers (bring your own). The pool was too cold. The food was just ok. The crowd was much older than I expected, everyone was either on their honeymoon or 50+ yo. I received a "deep tissue" massage from a guy at the spa, I had to ask for more pressure 3 times with no luck and it just seemed unsufficient. It was $*for 50 min and not worth it at all. The night life in the hotel is pretty lame, we went to Margaritaville and Pier One outside the hotel, it was fun. There is a mini bar in the room that is part of the all inclusive and its supposed to be refilled but it took 4 days and 5 requests from us to get the stock refilled once. Positives, the paddleboats, sailboats and kayaks are free with the all inclusive. The staff was friendly and enjoyable. The transportation was fairly easy. We went ziplining, it was amazing, I would definitely recommend it, $84 each, well worth the money. There is a souvenir "mall" across the street but the prices are outrageous, you can talk them down but you should take a look at duty free before you buy at the souvenir shops.

We went to Jamaica for the wedding of some dear friends. The staff was very helpful with regards to the wedding and reception. Very small wedding party and we did not want for anything, except for a breeze in the evening. The staff was always very pleasant and helpful during our 6 day stay. Check in can be very busy. Plenty of details to cover and others are trying to check in as well. I have been to Jamaica in the past and stayed at a different all inclusive resort. And I would say that I would choose a RIU resort again.

This hotel is beautiful and it ends there. The beds are not comfortable, the sheets were like sandpaper. There is no waitress for drinks at the pool, no bottled water, rude staff. The food was OK, but couldn't get into the restaurants - turned out to be a blessing when we got into one at the last minute and ate quarter size "Prawns." They gave us 4 tennis rackets, one was bent, one had scotch tape holding the grip together and another didn't have a grip at all. they gave us 3 balls ina container without a lid or label AND they didn't bounce. How could this hotel just open in Sept 08. I wouldn't go back here if it were free.

Was pleasantly surprised. Our original room was "ocean view" which meant a view of the ocean past the roof top...we voiced our concerns and were transfered to a much better room. The beds are very firm (I prefer softer beds). The tour guide & dinner reservation guides were grumpy, but every other staff member was AWESOME. The buffets were very good, lots of choices...we tipped every waiter because they deserved it...we even tipped the omelette and crepe preparers at the breakfast buffet. (They REALLY deserve it) Bring LOTS of singles (we didn't bring enough)The Italian restaurant was our favorite, followed by Chinese, then the Steak. If you go, bring a BIG insulated mug from home. The drinks are offered in small cups, which makes you have to return to the bar constantly. The entertainment was pretty good...the dancing can be a bit racy at times, so keep the kids far away from the stage. The beach is beautiful, yes the water is a bit murky compared to the others in the area, but it is MUCH better that most beaches I have visited. Be careful in the sun (bring sunscreen)....there were a lot of lobsters walking around (if you know what I mean). The spa was a really nice experience as well. Well worth it.

This was my second all-inclusive vacation and by far the best, My last was in Cancun. On arriving to the resort you are greeted with 1st class hospitality, you never touch your bags until your unpacking in your room, a refreshing Jamaican fruit punch is given at the front desk (full of rum for all you early starters). The rooms are tastefully done and the cherry wood decor and accents warms the look and feel of the tile floors. Their is a stocked fridge of fresh bottled water soda and Redstripe that is refilled every two days however your never in your room long enough to indulge. I went with my beautiful girlfriend and we hit the beach minutes after arriving their is a beautiful jetty where you can catch the sunset and snap some perfect pictures. The food in the buffet is well prepared and the variety is ok. Make sure to schedule reservations at the three specialty restaurants Kalu Asian is good, Little Italy is better, but Mahoe Steak House is the best it's outside and the atmosphere is perfect. The bartenders are the best part of the resort second to the Entertainment Staff, make sure you go see [...] at the pool bar and have him pour you a drink and give you a bottle dance. The cream of the crop is the Entertainment Staff, the hardest working men and women on the island, [...]work day and night to make sure your having a great time, staying fit, and full of drinks, between the morning beach aerobics, afternoon beach games, afternoon pool aerobics, and pool game, or the night shows you never have to leave the hotel five stars alone for their creativity and skills. To sum it up if you plan on staying here plan on having a good time with great people. BTW i am 22 and have a full time Job as a financial consultant so this wasn't just a spring break getaway.

My entire family went to the Riu in Montego Bay for the week between Christmas and New Years. This was our 3rd trip to Jamaica, the first with kids (6 years and 19 months). The good: Very close to the airport, took only about 5 monutes to get there. The layout of the property is great, Rooms are a good size and check in was easy. The Bad: My son has food allergies, and they were able to get him soy milk (we called weeks before going) but it was only available in our rooms, and if we did not bring it, there was none available in the dinning room. They also were not helpful in helping us select food that was safe. They did not go a very good job cleaning up. We have stayed at resorts in Mexico, DR, antigua where the second a glass was empty, it was gone. Here, glasses sat for hours, plantars around the pool were full of trash which was not cleaned, the staff would help you if asked. There was no staff around the pools or during the shows getting drinks, you had to go to the bar yourself if you wanted anything. They did a good job cleaning the rooms in a timely manner, but they were inconsistant in bringing towels. Sometimes we got 4 towels, sometimes 2, often no wash clothes were brought. TV had satellite issues, although they were able to add FOX for the sunday football games. Speciality resturants were not that special and the overall food was fine. Nothing special here. The shows were horrible, and the kids programming was poor.

this is my third riu vacation, bahamas and mexico, this one beat them both. The staff is more friendly, there is more selection of food in the buffett dining room, the buffet is so good that i did not have to go to the specialty restaurants. 10 minutes from the airport, you can hear planes flying over now and then, but it is no bother. If you want to party they have a pacha nightclub on the premises. I would definately go back to this location.

We stayed at this resort during the week prior to Christmas. The food was plentiful and edible, but not great. There was something for everyone. Rooms were nice enough, staff was friendly and hospitable. Nice pool but beach was horrible. There was mucky sand and tons of seaweed wrapping itself around your legs. Planes often flying overhead, since airport is 10 mins away. I paid for internet service which was fairly expensive. It was not working most of the time. Unmarked "non smoking" tables at food venues resulted in very smoky areas. Unfair to non smokers. They could use more restrooms closer to dining and beaches. I was reasonably happy until I returned home and contacted RIU customer service. They owed me a refund for 2 days and have essentially ignored my emails. I am not happy with them and will never use a RIU again for that reason. Too bad because I have heard nice things about them in the past.

The hotel itself was very nice. Our room was fantastic right on the ocean with the best view in the house! The pool was very nice as well. We were pretty active while we were there and left the resort a few times to see the "real Jamaica" and it was great. The downside was the food and the entertainment. The food was just bad. There is no other way to say it. Except for the Jerk Chicken on the beach...mmmm...very good...and the Steak house. The restaurants were very difficult to get into. We tried to make reservations the day that we arrived, but they were all booked up for days. We only were able to get to the Steak house and the Asian restaurant the last two nights that we were there. The wine was also very bad. We stuck around in the evenings and went to the different entertainment venues and they were all very amateur. I expected a lot more from such a nice resort. Next time we will stick with Sandals.

We enjoyed our vacation in Riu Montego Bay. the hotel offers great food, service and entertainment 24/7. It was beyond our expectations. The only problem that I found is no wireless internet.

We stayed at the Riu from May 9-15th. Check-in was very easy and our room was ready when we arrived around 11AM. Some had to wait from our flight, but the hotel took care of your luggage and you were off to start enjoying the hotel. We had an oceanview room, which was nothing fancy but it served it's purpose, didn't spend much time there anyways. Staff was always friendly and very courteous. Trying to help make the most of your stay. We had meals at both buffets & all 3 restaurants. Advice would be to make your reservations as soon as you arrive for the Asian, Italian & Steakhouse. They fill up fast. Also try to go to the buffets earlier rather than later. We went to breakfast late one morning and most of the food was already gone. Overall, the food was good. We especially enjoyed the Italian Restaurant. At the main buffet for lunch, always look for what the cook is making in the very large skillet. It was always something good. The beach was a bit disappointing. Being man made, it had alot of algae & the water was murky. We tried to do some snorkeling off shore which was difficult. We did get to see a few things but nothing great. The vendors could also be handled a little better by security. There were plenty of beach chairs and it was kept very clean. The BEST spot on the beach was the Jerk Chicken Hut. My husband and I made sure to stop one last time before we left for the airport. Probably the best lunch you could have. We would also highly recommend the 2Hr snorkeling excursion you can book from the Scuba place on the beach. It was $32pp/US. It takes you out to 2 reefs where you can snorkel. The guides also swim with you and point out stuff. I held a sea cucumber and sea urchin. We have seen bigger & brighter fish in other places we have snorkled, but the landscape of the coral here was by far the best. Also, we were not too impressed by the excursions offered by the travel guides in the hotel. We took a few trips to the Hip Strip, but be prepared to pay for y

Jamaica is Jamaica. Upon arriving by taxi from the airport the surrounding area and the hotel appeared to be rather shabby from the street.......but definately just a bad illusiion. The place is new, immense, and beautiful. We had an oceanview room with a large patio on the 2nd floor. The accomodations and personnel were excellant. The special "by reservation" dining options could probably have been skipped and not missed. The breakfast and lunch dining was excellant while dinner, although varied each night, could be improved on. All in all though, it was an excellant 45th anniversary trip.

We have been to several places and this is by far the best we have stayed at so far. Airplanes made noise for about 10 minutes total out of the entire day, so this did not affect our trip. Staff was great!! Food was to die for! Drinks were great!! I can't say enough about how great this place was!!! 5 Stars for sure!!!

Just returned from a wonderful mother-daughter retreat from the world. The resort is just gorgeous! Any day I can spend the entire day in a bathing suit works for me! The free bar at in the pool was a kick! The accomodations were attractive and abundent. Full complimentary bar in our room too. The hotel is only 1.7 miles from the airport, a bonus so once on land you do not have to trek throughout the country and waste time getting to your resort. Yes, you do hear an occcasional planes overhead, but some were actually pretty at night, almost like fireworks. The staff and the entertainment were great. They were friendly and genuinely pleased if you were happy with them. We saw an all Jamaica cast do the play, Grease, which was well choreographed, lively and fun. We also saw a terrific Reggae singer. The nightclub after the shows had a descent sound system and dancing. The food was good, not amazing, but good with lots of options in the buffets. A possible drawback is you can not get a reservation in the more upscale restaurants unless you make them for several days ahead. So if you are seeking gormet food, this may not work for you. If you are seeking abundant alcohol and beverages, a lively water and pool life, gorgeous rooms and environment, ocean views and sunsets, this is the place. We loved it and kept our sense of humor knowing every vacation has a few flaws.

Just got back yesterday. With the hotel just opening, it has some bugs that they have to work out. We had no clock in our room. Went to front desk with problem. After 8 days, we still had no clock in our room. One day, no bath towels. Not enough towels in room (we had 2 bath towels) for whole day. Most people take a shower in morning and when you come back from beach or pool. 2 is not enough. Food was OK Fruit was not ripe. Selection of food was good. Service for breakfast was slow. Had to wait up to 20 min sometimes just to get coffee at the table. Entertainment staff was GREAT! Topless bathing was allowed at the pool and at the beach. I thought the topless bathing should not have been allowed at the pool since this is a family resort. Have been to Jamaica many times so I had something to compare this resort with other resorts that we have been to.

The resort is very pretty , but it is not organized at all. The staff was not friendly except the bartenders and bell man .We stayed 7 days and never got to eat in the so called specialty restuarants as they said were booked, when we asked. But If you passed by the restuarants at dinner time there was always empty tables. Also there is no control over the children there, they were in the pool with drinks and glasses also in the bar areas . The live shows were great after they got all the kids off the stage so they could begin. It is a shame that such a nice resort is ran in this manner

Poor quality of food and drink. Pool area was nice but the beach was horrible. It took forever to get your room cleaned and clean towels. Does not stand up the the standard of the other Riu Hotels. Little or no lighting in the hall ways and stairways in the evening.
