Riu Garopa

The Hotel Riu Funana opened its doors in October 2005 and has become a very popular hotel with European holiday makers. Located frontline and next to the top surf spot Ponta Preta sand beach and turquoise water. There are 2 natural sand dunes to the right side of the hotel beach. In front of the hotel is also a beach bar and the nautical stations. Directly at the beach with 1 main entrance to the hotel. From some parts of the hotel, ergo reception or different rooms it could be up to 300m distances to the beach, due to the vast hotel complex. You can walk along the pavement and the main road that connects to Santa Maria village. It will take around 10-15 minutes by feet. Taking a taxi it is only a few minutes from Santa Maria village. The hotel has 2 entrances and 2 reception with 1 main building connecting the 2 hotels. There is a wide range of sports available from table tennis, archery and beach volley to windsurfing, kayaking and diving. There are daily daytime entertainment programmes for both adults and children and there is entertainment every night with live music and shows. The animation programme is international and varies all nights. The hotels also have a spa, gym, Jacuzzi, sauna, nightclub, games room, gift shop and hairdresser. Meals are buffet style and are taken in the Ponta Preta restaurant, with a themed buffet twice a week. There is a Cape Verdian speciality restaurant, a grill restaurant and an exquisite asian restaurant on site, but reservations must be made in advance. Local beverages are unlimited and are served until midnight or 2am in the nightclub. There are a wide range of bars to choose from, 5 in total. It has a rustic air, Moorish style mixed with ceramic tiles, lots of wood that gives it warmth and a charming decor. The rooms are in warm earthy colours and have also a lot of wood. In fact the best hotel in the island of Sal at the moment and the only 5 star to choose from.
