Just got back from the Riu in Negril. If you do not mind the cockroaches crawling around the rooms or the ranced smell coming from the bar that is in the pool, it was unreal. The food was okay, the shadow was the only place to eat dinner. The jerk chicken was great. Waking up to get in line for 8 am so you might have a chance to get a table was a big pain. The air unit made a lot of noise that kept me up all night. All i can say is Jamaica was great and the Riu was a dump!

I stayed at this resort for 5 days and it was wonderful. The hotel staff was very friendly and the food at the restaurant was great. The entertainment is very fun and there is something to look forward to everyday. I enjoyed everything and I will definitely go back. I recommend this hotel for any travelers to Negril.

Jamaica, itself, was just OK. I'm not sure if I would go back. If I did, I would stay at this hotel again. Very friendly staff, great pools, great beach, good food and great rooms. We went for a wedding too and the ceremony and reception were beautiful!

Nice setting, friendly staff, andclean. Topless guests at the pool might be a problem for families with children. Open, lush tropical setting, friendly and very pleasant staff. Well kept, very nice rooms.

I was nervous about this hotel at first since travelocity had rated it 3 stars, but the vacation was fabulous. The hotel premises are upkept very well. The staff was absolutely fantastic. It was super easy to get drinks whenever you wanted to and there was no delay in service. The buffets had pretty good food, but some of the produce was a little under-ripe, but I think this is just because of the area. The buffets served different food every day. However, it is hard to get into the restuarants. You have to make reservations and when we were there they said we could only go every other day. The entertainment staff works really hard and they make it fun. The jerk chicken shack on the beach is so good. The hotel is located next to a fish sanctuary and then a public beach so it is a little isolated, which I liked. However, the beach sand was not great, but the water was crystal clear and the beach was much bigger than other resorts. There were enough loungers for everyone. There were also plenty of excursions available. We had an ocean view room. The room itself was nice....BUT the bed was terrible with 2 full size beds pushed together and the room did smell very musty. We had to keep our slider door open all the time. Also, the toilet never stopped running. And there were some lighting/electrical problems in our room, but nothing that we felt destroyed our trip or was really of concern. It really was the people of Jamaica and the scenery that made this trip great. Also, no rooms directly face the road, which is really nice.

The hotel was excellent -- the service was superior! The dining hall had the most professional workers. I loved the Jerk Chicken that was served on the beach. The shows and music events during the evenings were excellent after dinner. The layout of the resort is great. Ladies bring your sundresses for dinner/evening attire!

My wife and I (on our Honeymoon) ate (and ate good), relaxed, and enjoyed so great shows and events. The staff almost felt like family. esp- Spider, Spongebob, Orlando, and Johnny. There could have been a better way to do the reservations for the Upscale dinner. Like a call in- 1st come, 1st serve kinda thing.

This hotel needs to be placed under new management. Not only was this the worst hotel experience I have ever had but it was not safe. We had only one key per room, no other keys could be made as there were no key in which to carve. The ac was off in the mid-day & in the night so the room got very hot & smelled like smoke & mildew. We had to wait in line every 2 days to get a restaurant ticket or we were to eat at the buffet where the food was terrible & we worried that it would make us sick. The bar drinks had perhaps 1/4 shot of alcohol in them. The water was not potable from the sinks & we were given a bottle of water every 2 days which was not enough. We asked for more water 4 times and never got it. It was just a very badly managed hotel.

I would definitely consider going back to the Riu Negril. The staff is super friendly, the buffet and selection of food is outstanding, the beach is wonderful (love the trees on the beach), pretty decent snorkeling right on the beach and nearby. Make sure you look into doing the Chukkha Canopy Tour in Mongego Bay...simply amazing.

The hotel has a very attentive and cordial staff. The beach and pool were just the right distance from our room. There was plenty to do near the hotel like the jungle nightclub, margaritavill and cool running water park. The hotel has a taxi stand that is a plus. The driver will wait for you at your destination or come back at a specific time. I would definitely stay at this hotel again

when we first arrived, we were eairly, they put our luggage in the "back" so it was safe, and we sat at the bar, and swam untill out room was ready! room was nice, but a musty smell! bring some air freshener! it was nice to have drinks in the room! the pools were amazing! the beach... wow! i love it how you can snorkle, kyak, suba dive and you leave right from the resort! wow wounderful servive! food, well, there are places you can reserve to eat. those are good. the dinner buffe, excellent, but the lunch.... kinda is funky, ya know it is cooked in a forign country so you have to get used to it. but when you do, and come back to america, it is hard to ajust back to american food. they really dont have much spice in thier food. also they dont have snacks! bring some ecpecially if u get the munchies ;).

I have read some of the reviews posted here and at other sites - even prior to booking out trip. Now, after my vacation, I have to wonder if the reviews written that are less than positive visited the same place? My whole family would agree, that this is the place to vacation. It was relaxing, safe, beautiful, and VERY entertaining. The hotel entertainment is by far the best!!! They mix it up each night, and sometimes you will have the Hotel entertainment staff perform and other nights you will have a local band come in and perform. Both are fun, but the hotel entertainment, we found, was by far the best entertainment. They are friendly, they keep you involved and make you feel welcome! It doesn't matter if you are 5 or 80, this is the place to go!!!! My husband who is VERY hard to impress or please even had the greatest time here. The hotel staff is friendly, and they are constantly cleaning. The food was wonderful with a lot to choose from. So whether you are hungry at 7 am or 3 am, you will find something to eat! The Green Island restaurant was our favorite place to eat in the evening with so much to choose from and a beautiful atmosphere. This is definitely a place that we will go back to, and we would recommend to anyone!

Had an EXCELLENT time. No complaints at all. Check in and check out was as easy as 1-2-3. The staff was extremely friendly and definitely made you feel very at home and welcomed. There are always days activities and tours happening so you can never get bored, but if you want to just relax, the pool or the beach is a great place to be. Only thing about the beach (it's nice but the water is not as clear as some places I have been), but was great for jetskiing. The sunset booze cruise to Ricks Cafe was nice as well as the Ocean Safari with Chukka Tours was great as well. There are so many other options rather than staying on the property. We ate in downtown Negril at a restaurant called "Sweet Spice" as reccomended from one of the tour desks. They were GREAT and so HELPFUL. The best place to eat for lunch is Shadows. The Green Island was ok, but we stuck with Shadows cafe as they had better options. Also, making dinner reservations isn't easy as they only book reservations Mon. Wed. Fri...and you have to get up 9:30am to wait on a long line. Make sure to try the blue ocean drinks from the bar...DELICIOUS. Also, the Jerk Hut on the beach is GREAT! Only thing is you have to get to the hut when it firsts opens because the cook runs out of chicken before he closes. Greatttt Trip! Next time I will stay longer.

Venture out from the resort. Go across the street and barter for a ride to downtown Nigril. Go west of downtown and stop at Xtabi and visit the caverns. Don't miss ""The Boat House"" on 7 Mile where Red Stripes are 100 Jamaican!

We really enjoyed our time at the Riu. The food was good, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We enoyed paddle boating (which is included in the all inclusive price), many games and just the overall relaxation. The entertainment staff manager can be a bit rude, but otherwise they were an enjoyment.

The hotel was amazing! It was more than expected! I had previously stayed in Montego Bay and was not sure what we would expect in Negril, but the hotel, beach, and swimming pools were very nice. The entertainment crew was amazing! I would suggest this to anyone! If you can go see Dunn's River Falls, the ride may be long but it is worth it.

Everyone in my party of 9 was impressed with the Riu. We can't wait to stay at some of their other locations. I cant say enough about the level of service. Bellhops, bartenders, the entertainment group, all went out of their way to get to know us and our needs. Jerk chicken was cooked everyday on the beach and was one of our family's favorite lunches!

My husband and I have traveled to a number of all-inconclusives in Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic and the Riu Negril ranks up there as one of the best. Beach/pool: Beach was huge, plenty of chairs at both the beach and pool. It's true that the water is a little murky, but it was no problem. Food/bar: We found the food to be excellent and the service at the bars to be equally good. Waiting in line to get reservations was tedious, seems like there could be a better way. We ate at the Steakhouse and at Sir Andrew but felt that the buffet was equal to or better than the specialty restaurants. Rooms: We opted for one step above the standard room - garden view I think it was. We were given a room on the third floor of building 2 and were very pleased. If you go to tripadvisor and read the reviews, you will see claims of theft, roaches and other atrocities. We found none of this to be true. Infact we plan to return, something we haven't been able to say about many of the past resorts we've stayed at.
