mid week getaway!we had a great stay at ricks, it was modern , clean, friendly and a short walk from princes street, what more could you want? The rooms were very modern and stylish and our only complaint is the room was a tad on the dark side and could do with double glazing as street noise was on all day!The breakfast was excellent and staff more than accomodating, we shall be back!!

One major let down ruined what could have been an amazing stay !Rick's was great - up to a point. Great location, great food, great rooms. However, we stayed on a really hot day/night and the rooms were unbearably uncomfortable. My room didn't have a servicable window and no air con, which was an unpleasant suprise. Particularly as it had details in the welcome pack of the room on how to operate it ! I'm not so obtuse I don't recognise that such weather is rare, but when I asked at reception for a fan, a youg guy told me that there was one but I couldn't have it until he'd finished with it (!) He then assured me he would bring it to the room - it never arrived. A real case of over promise-under deliver, which was far from impressive. Subsequently I arrived at my meeting next day having had little sleep and having endured an unbearable night. Not ideal. I'm sure if their heating broke down in winter, they would endeavour to put portable heaters in the rooms, so why did they not consider their guests in conditionms at the other extreme ? My colleague in the next room had the same experience. They were undergoing a re-furb of sorts, but that was unobtrustive and carried out in a customer centric fashion. The other staff I dealt with were great and breakfast was really outstanding. I would go again - but not in the summer !!!!!

really cool hotelwe really enjoyed our stay at the hotel, the only negatives would be being woken up by the bins at the back of the hotel(also in previous reviews) and we had a rather long wait for breakfast but the staff were all very friendly and very helpful

Brilliant location, great staff and a good high quality hotel. Recommended to allStayed in ricks botique hotel and it was a great room (3) with pleasing finishes and a wall mounted plasma tv with all channels. DVDs were also available as was a laundry service and all staff were courtesy, friendly and very hepful.A flawless performance with the exception of 1 light needing changed in the bulkhead in the toilets, which was hardly a big deal.11/10 for me. Better than most hotels in edinburgh and for the price it was very very thoroughly enjoyable. Will stay again.

Great hotel - excellent customer service! - but slight noise at nightLocation was fantastic, close to Princess St and the hotel had the best customer service I have received in a hotel in years. Thank you for a lovely stay!Only slight negative, being in a city you will experience noise at night - we had the ground floor and were disturbed by noise thoughout the night.

We didn't actually stay at Ricks... We book a room at Ricks on Wednesday, and received a phone call on Thursday to tell us there had been a problem with some of the locks on rooms that couldn't be fixed by the weekend, therefore we'd been outbooked to the sister hotel, Tigerlily. The girl on the phone was very polite and helpful, reassured me all the details of the booking would be the same and gave a reservation number. It actually worked out quite nicely for us as the rooms at Tigerlily are bigger (and more expensive!). On arrival at Tigerlily there was an initial confusion over the price (they did have all the details of the booking) as they thought they were charging the Tigerlily price. I showed the Late Rooms reservation with the Ricks price, which they were then happy to charge. I can therefore say that customer service at Ricks was very good - and as it turned out, so was value for money! We didn't eat at Tigerlily but the room was immaculate.

Rick's is good but the decor is now somewhat dated and the piped music too loud and intrusive in the bar and restaurant areas.

My partner and I recently stayed at Rick's on a city break to Edinburgh for my 40th birthday. On the whole we were satisfied with the experience. The staff were pleasant, cheerful and very helpful indeed and the bar and restaurant have a very cool, chic and comfortable feel about them. Breakfast and dinner was very tasty. In terms of things that did not meet our expectations, firstly the rooms are billed as 'luxury twin rooms'. They were clean but in our view the decor is in desperate need of updating - The Bathroom though clean has clearly been heavily used and was a bit tired. For want of a better phrase, the decor is a bit ten years ago (when it opened). Plus, it did not feel 'high end' which is what we expected and indeed have experienced in other boutique hotel/apartments across the UK and Europe. The paint work was flaking in the bathroom, the bathrobes were thin and old and there was a general feeling that the rooms would benefit from some care, attention and money spent on them. I think what most people want from a luxury boutique hotel and why they don’t just stay anywhere and pay half the price is for a little bit of decadence and luxury and feeling special, not lamps without bulbs, or the hotel running out of shampoo. We absolutely would stay there again because the staff were top-notch, but only after it has been renovated.

Althought I could not fault the accommodation - beautiful spacious room, free wifi, good tv, nice bathroom, great toiletries...our stay was marred by the rubbish collection @ 7am on Saturday morning. I would recommend that the hotel negotiate a slightly later pick up for their glass bottles at the weekend to ensure their guests are able to enjoy their stay!

I can't fault the hotel for cleanliness or comfort. I would advise not to stay on the ground floor though as it is very noisy. Top class service and nice hotel though.

Due to a mix up between the hotel and laterooms, hotel manager called an hour after booking to say they had no room available and he called round other hotels to try and help us find a room. We ended up at the Hudson Hotel and thanks to Murray for organising this for us. Nice boutique hotel, but next time will try and secure room at Ricks!

Only stayed one night - wished it could have been longer! Great hotel with classy rooms and a great ambience. Top breakfast.

Booked 4 rooms late (on day of arrival) and due to a mix up between laterooms & Ricks after getting a confirmation I was later rung and told only 2 rooms were available. However, Andrew at Ricks could not have been more helpful - he arranged alternative accomodation for the rest of our party at another hotel just around the corner and subsidised the rate at the alternative hotel so that we only paid the same. Customer service at both hotels was exceptional.

Ricks was a delight to stay at. It is really easy to find, and the staff are so friendly and helpful we couldn't find any fault. Compared to other so-called Boutique hotels this is so much better and even includes a breakfast of your choice from the menu. The scottish cooked breakfast is highly recommended before a day out sightseeing! and the cocktails in the bar are very tempting on an evening too!

The hotel is in a great location for all of the trendy bars and nightlife of George Street and ideal for sightseeing, shopping etc. The rooms are fairly compact but very comfortable and well decorated - as is all of the hotel. We didn't realise the bar at the hotel was such a popular place, it had a great atmosphere. Breakfast was excellent. Only one criticism, our rooms looked out onto a side street and the refuse collection happened around 7am and was extremely noisy.....maybe the hotel could negotiate a later collection! Overall, RIcks is a great weekend break hotel and we'll definitely be back.

The bggest problem was the noise. The room was at ground level, you cld hear all conversations, of staff while they went out to smoke, another restaurant nearby... had to hv curtains closed otherwise we wld be seeing the faces of any passer-by.
