beautiful atmosphere, odd placeOn arrival we were given the customary mint tea and kept talking for a suspicious length of time whilst various people whispered in the background, before we were told how lucky we were that they had a spare room. Considering the riad was empty and we had booked in advance, we didn't see this as luck. They upgraded us to a very nice "suite" with just one double bed instead of the twin we booked as we were just two female friends travelling together. They admitted they might not have received the fax from laterooms as they fax machine didn/t always work, so be aware if you are travelling in high season. They offered us dinner for 38 euros, which we took to be for the two of us as everything else had been for both of us (but was in fact an extortionate amount for each of us for average food). it was a strange affair with the staff standing over us and rushing us through three courses in less than an hour, constantly asking us questions but also putting on a large flatscreen tv next to our table which detracted further from the experience. the riad is beautiful but lacks any atmosphere, and is too formal and starchy to relax in. At the end of a long trip around Morocco, this place was probably the most expensive and least warm and welcoming. The Manager was also excessively pushy about booking a city guide for us, and trying to scare us by saying we were likely to get our throats cut if we went out alone after dark. Overall - a stuffy, overpriced, strange but tranquil and pretty oasis well-located near to the main sights of Fes.
