Don't do it! Bathroom door wouldn't close, so potential to set off smoke alarm, Housing Commission next door was noisy and kept me awake, lifts broke down, room basic and 'just' cleaned enough, very small etc... Staff very friendly and helpful, food in restaurant quite good, but there are better places in Canberra for the same money.

Overall I thought the hotel was OK - very convenient. Two complaints though - they need to do something about the fact that steam from the showers sets off the smoke alarms - we evacuated at about 3am (not happy), because someone left the bathroom door open when they had a shower. Also, I booked well in advance and when I arrived they told me the type of room I had asked for was fully booked.

This hotel looks better on the inside than the outside - although still going through refurbishment. The food from the restaurant was excellent and very well priced, although the cooked breakfast buffet was a little plain (but still good). Would recommend this hotel and would stay there again myself.

Double room was very small and showed significant use. Hotel in general is in need of major up date. Located quite a distance from city center. The hotel charged extra for every service. Breakfast hot good was just warm at best. Reception staff was not very welcoming

When we stayed at The Rex Hotel it was going a through a make-over; not before time. The room we occupied had not been renovated. It was fairly comfortable with a king bed. The room was quiet, at the back of the hotel. The bathroom was only reasonable and the shower was pretty bad. The staff were all very freindly and the breakfast included a very good cooked buffet etc. We would stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay very friendly staff and excelent evening meals shame that there not available over the weekends. Room was small but well laid out, clean and comfortable. Would stay again if back in Canberra

Great customer service.. When my air con broke they did there best to accomidate me, with a fan, and had it fixed the next day while i was out.

As far as service to me personally went, the Rex was great. Unfortunately, the room service to some neighbouring rooms seemed less perfect, as twice in my four-day stay; I'd arrive at my room in the mid-evening to notice a finished dinner outside a neighbouring door and then leave in the early morning and see it *still* there. My room however was always clean, the customer service great, the restaurant surprisingly good, and the walk into Civic each morning very pleasant. For those rainy days there's a bus stop close by to take into Civic also. Would happily stay again.

I found the receptionist Brenan(sp?) very helpful. Location was excellent for us coming in on the Barton Highway however not being able to use the pool was a downer, as was the mini fridge which struggled to even be cool. The bathroom was very tired looking especially the mirror. Overall though for the price it did us well. Thank you.

The hotel was undergoing renovations so was probably not the best time to stay. However I felt the room was very small and very hot. The aircon was not available. Staff were polite, efficient & friendly. Location was excellent.

A bit old and tired but ok. Pool not open, no exhaust fan in bathroom and sign saying if the door is left open during shower and fire alarm goes off it cost you $300,00 Parking can be a hastle ie a long way around the back, I saved $30 a day booking online,$99 per day, they quoted $130 direct and I think 99 was a bit too dear for the quality, but hey we stayed 4 nights and it was convenient.. I think all city hotels are overpriced. Just makes 3 star.

Rooms are still being upgraded. Fridge was totally frosted up. They fixed it next day after we asked. The toilet system was old and the button hard to push. Bedding was good which is one of the main things. Overall value for money consider the upgrade.

Very clean but dated. A good budget option. Heating was too warm for my liking, and my TV reception was non existent, but for a one night stay it was fine

very comfy beds.Heating centrally controlled was unbearably hot, but on mentioning this the next morning temperature was adjusted -staff very helpful and friendly.Be careful to shut bathroom door when showering as steam can apparently set off the fire alarm and could cost you $300! (notice in bathroom to this effect)

We were disappointed with room facilities, hot water was never hot, always had cold showers over two days. Only one blanket for queen bed ( winter booking )Curtains kept coming off the track. When we mentioned on check out there was no hot water, we were told by unconcerned staff that you have to run a full bath of cold water before shower allows hot water through !! What a waste ! We couldn't believe it. Over all, we would not recommend to anyone . Thank you
