UpgradeGood location - on the main square of the city - and virtually everywhere was walkable for a short city break (most of it downhill and then steeply back up again). Very close to stylish metro too.Hotel good as a base - breakfasts fuelling if uninventive, sensibly available from 8 - 10.30am. Room clean, simple (yet attractive) and well maintained daily. Bathroom minute yet efficient - but hey at these prices you shouldn't expect everything. Worth upgrading as we did and paying just slightly more to get a room at the rear of building. The hotel says they have no "suites" despite description on Laterooms for such - just "superior rooms". That needs changing on website. Traffic noise on hotel street-frontage must be a pain - we just were awoken by squabbling seagulls. Payment taken at hotel (and requested in cash due to faulty electronic system). Good value - which makes a change for hotels.

The hotel is in a good central location 15mins to the river and 5 mins to the train station. Good value for the location. The staff where very helpfull and we enjoyed a tango show in there restaurant downstairs. Porto is a fantastic place for a weekend break. Visit the port wine houses and take the tourist bus out to Foz on the coast

Conveniently located for the centre of Porto. Rooms were full of character with old but clean furniture. Our balcony overlooked the main square. Aliados Metro Station was barely 50 yards away. Overall, an excellent stay and would definately return.

Very well located hotel next to the town center. Well connected with public transportation. I had some problems with my romm but the staff gave me another one without problems.

the hotel was very good as it was right in the centre of town and the use of public transport was rarely used from this hotel as everything is within walking distance. the staff are very helpful and always give you suggestions for having a good day. the room is not the greatest but you pay for what you get. for a very cheap hotel with decent bedrooms and in an ideal location, you cannot go wrong with this one. i would definatly stay here again. also the noise was not bad at all and i had a room overlooking the main street. well worth booking.

This is a decent hotel. Had I looked around I believe I would have found something a bit less expensive.

Very helpful staff, good value for money - only 5 min walk to metro for central lisbon, Oriente park etc

We went for a football match at the Stadio Dragao. We had a great day by the river, only a 10 minute walk downhill. It was a bit harder on the way back, especially after a few beers! The hotel is situated in the heart of the city and there's three Metro stations within a 10 minute walk too. If you just need a room for a night or two then this hotel will do the job.

The hotel was adequate for a short stay, however we fould the noise from the passing traffic a problem during the night but overall the hotel delivered what it stated and the staff were friendly and helpful.

the elevator was broken when we got there, so, as an act of "courtesy", they offered us a room on the same floor as the reception. It turns out that thsi room was facing the street and was extremely noisy due to poor window isolation. Hence, at 1 AM I asked the receptionist to give us a room that is facing elsewhere. She did and it was OK. However, this is a very old building, paperthin walls and very screechy wooden floors, so prepare to suffer if you like to sleep more in the mornings. Breakfast was modest, very few choices. In addition, the hotel prohibits washing any piece of cloth in their room. Weird rule, huh?! The location was excelllent, but that is about the only positive thing about this pension.

The location of the hotel is brilliant on the main street of Porto's historic centre, a ten minute walk from the Trinidade (airport) metro stop and a fifteen minute stroll from the river front. The hotel itself is a little old, in a 1920's Art Deco style. The rooms reflect this, being quite small with very high ceilings and antique furniture. There is a good restaurant on the ground floor, and the hotel entrance is around the cornet and up some stairs. Its listed in the Lonely Planet, and there were a few backpacker types lounging about. The hotel was clean and the staff very helpful. Breakfast was basic continental - ceral, tea or coffee, and croisants or bread rolls with cheese or jam. The only real problem was the traffic noice in the bedrooms. The window are the original timber folding type with internal shutters. They're so old that they don't fit tighly and hence there is always a gap and its like sleeping with the window open as far as noice is concerned. The main street is busy enough, but the small street to the side feeds a busy tunnel, with buses, lorries and trams, lots of sterotypical latin road rage and horn blowing etc. A small expenditure on properly fitting windows and double glazing would make this almost a boutique hotel. Instead it's a bit of a jumble, lovely, lots of potential, but just not quite perfect.

Hotel is in a perfect location, and the staff are wonderful: friendly, very helpful and speak English very well, full of facts and information. However it is very noisy with the traffic hence I would not stay here again but for anyone who is not a light sleeper, i would quite happily recomend this hotel to anyone.

The room we had was large, but the beds were not very comfortable. Maybe other rooms are different, we didn't have a particulary great one, our view was the back alley, but we had a nice breeze and lots of space. The lounge and breakfast rooms are really nice, too. The breakfasts are OK, it is a very basic continental, breads and jellies, coffee and juice, cereal. The staff is very friendly and will keep your luggage for you before and after you check out in their luggage room. In short, except for the beds that bowed in the middle (we had room 312) we would stay again.

Good location, great views onto the city square, friendly staff, good price, slightly small room, but everything worked. I agree with other reviewers about the breakfast - but I've certainly had worse. Would recommend and stay again.

All staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. This is an old authentic Hotel so don't expect your door not to squeak and your windows not to have a draft but it truly is a lovely place to visit Porto. Prime location and easy access to the train to the airport.
