Renovation on the hotel made it noisy and dusty during the day. I stayed in December, 2008, and renovation was supposed to be completed months before. Front staff not overly friendly, and the breakfast was overpriced at 24.50 Euros. It does have a great location for shopping and visiting the Anne Frank House.

I was told this was a 5 star hotel. I dont think the hotel deserves this rating. Construction is still going on as of the end of the July 2008. On travel website it states that construction would end July1. The elevators were small only about 4 people could fit in them. We did not receive a paper in front of oiur door every day. The lobby was not the grand room as shown in pictures online -- it was a small room in the back of the building. Breakfast for 1 was around 24 EURO. The good thing is that they offered bottle water free every day in the lobby. This is also located near Central Station and is right off the main street of shops. Our room was nice and clean. Our beds were very comfortable. Room service was prompt.

I was in the Netherlands for work. I have not been to Amsterdam, so I wanted to take avantage of being there and see as much as I could in one evening. I picked the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel because of it's location - it is literally a 5 minute walk after getting off at the Amsterdam Central train station. Amsterdam is not that big, so the hotel location is really accessable to everything. The look of the lobby of the hotel is great - clean and modern. The rooms are also very nice. The room is spacious and also very modern. For some reason, I wasn't able to dail a local Netherlands phone number for my dailing card access to the US. I went to the lobby to look for a public phone. The concierge literally offerred for me to use his phone. Very nice guy. I highly recommend this hotel.

Trip went great. Staff was friendly and helpful. Sinks are a little more stylish than functional. A little issue with shower not draining quickly. Otherwise room was great for two people. Cost is expensive (as with all high-end hotels in center of Amsterdam). Location is right by the train station and a 5-10 minute walk from Dam square, but it's a little too far north to be considered a prime spot. It is, however, less than 1 block off the #2 and #5 tram lines, so this is not a big deal. If you have cash, don't think twice about staying here after they finish construction later this summer. Not quite as nice as the Krasnapolsky (on Dam Square) or Pulitzer (with it's funky rooms), but a nice, comfortable place.

Location can't be beat. Great new rooms. But if you need daytime sleep now, forgetaboutit, there is loud construction during the day. It is supposed to start at 8am, but I got a pounding at 7:30am one morning and even though it stopped after a fashion (in response to mine and others calls to the front desk) it is not fun to be in the room during the day. At night on the other hand, to be in the room is to be in a comfortable and quiet place. If I could change anything I'd improve the window treatment to seal off the light better for late sleeping. My only complaint was that I didn't get my anticipated wake up call on my departure date.

Definitely paying for location but for the price of the hotel, they will charge extra for every little thing. For a hotel of this calibur, I would expect just a little more.

The hotel was clean and the concierge was very helpful. My request for a shaving kit was not delivered after asking twice. Decent location, although the drugged out frat boy out back was somewhat disturbing. Staff was helpful in general except for ignoring my requests for a shaving kit. Being unshorn is somewhat irritating for me.

Be sure to contact the hotel for a specific room. Automatically put in a inside room, the second room had an outside view. The view was better but room 626 should not should not be given to guest. It was recently renovated, poor lighting in the bathroom, A huge pertrusion in the wall where I hit my head twice. They told me it happens to people all the time. We were offered a different room for 150.00 dollars more a night. Also the furthest room from the evevator. The staff was wonderful in every other way. Don't necessarly take their recomendation on local food. The Italian was good.

Location just walking distance from train great deal. Staff was not very helpful asI entered the hotel fumbling with my bags received no help. Iwould be sure that this is a Gray hotel for someone who love to sleep crappy food and bad service but really comfy beds.

I have stayed at this hotel on 3 previous occasions. The staff is excellent, knowledgeable and very accommodating. This time I was fortunate to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms. Awesome bed & furnishings that made an extremely restfull stay. Besides being a great hotel, it's location is even better. A short walking distance to anything one would want to do or see in Amsterdam. They are currently in phase 2 of their renovation, however, but I was disturbed very little by the construction.
