Most of Old Rigas best areas can be found within a 1 to 10 minute walk.By Public Transport (bus or train):We are 5 minutes walking distance from the central bus terminal and train station. When you get out on the central station, just head towards Old Riga and the Center Gallery shopping center, 20 meters from us.By Plane:We are 10 km from Riga International Airport (RIX). You can take bus number 22 that leaves every 10-30 minutes and will cost you just LVL 0.30 (EUR 0.43) and will take you to the Central Market (Abrenes Street), 5 minutes walking distance from us. You can take also bus number 22a that leaves from the same place and will take you to the Cathedral bus stop on Brivibas Boulevard, just 5-10 minutes walking distance from us. Just head towards Old Riga and the Center Gallery shopping center, 20 meters from us.You could also find St. Jana Church, which gave the name to our street.Before leaving the airport, dont forget to change currency as you will need local money to pay for your tickets.By Taxi from Airport (RIX):Taxis cost about EUR 15, but make sure that the counter is turned on. You can also contact us and we will pick you up from the airport. | OK, this is a hostel, so it won't be super fancy. But I had a single room -- clean, pretty new looking. I've stayed in FAR worse hotels in London!! It really was a great place to stay -- smack dab in the Old Town, but 5 minutes walking from the #22 bus to the airport. My room was pretty tiny, but not uncomfortable. (No place to put bag.) Big plus: was very easy to get online with my laptop (I am NOT a techie)-- no password needed. No desk, but the bed worked fine. Being in the Old Town with no traffic -- once the streets had quieted down (Riga is a pretty hard-drinking and partying town) it was very quiet. When I was walking to the bus at 5:15 the next morning it was totally silent. Two big negatives for me: I had the room next to the bathroom -- people were using it all night. I am not a light sleeper and this would ordinarily not bother me too much, but I had a mosquito in my room. Actually, I had TWO mosquitos, which I figured out after finally catching the first one which was buzzing around my ear driving me nuts. I left before breakfast, so can't comment on the food or breakfast room. I had come from another hotel in town, and the receptionist was very friendly, gave me my key early in the afternoon and said, just go ahead and take your suitcase up. (3 flights, no elevator, but again, I've navigated FAR FAR worse places in London.) I stayed 3 places in 3 nights in Riga, checking out hotels for a tour I'm leading in the spring. This is the place I would stay again just for myself (and ask to NOT have room 30 next to the bathroom) -- the 30 Lats pricetag (about $60) and location can't be beat. But for my group, coming on a weekend, I'm opting for the pricier hotel JUST outside the Old Town area -- the commotion into the night would not work for most of them. |
