Manchester, England, United Kingdom

Description:
The Red Lion is the only surviving pub left in the beautiful Lancashire village of Newburgh. This traditional pub with its cosy corners and appetising menu is a hit with locals and visitors to the area. The 13 rooms have been carefully refurbished to give the perfect blend of old and new. Newburgh sits on the Leeds and Liverpool canal a short distance from Wigan. The menu focuses on British classics using select local ingredients. For the more adventurous we offer daily specials from the blackboard and you can wash your meal down with a pint of quality real ale from a choice of brewers, or a glass of wine from our extensive cellar.
Transportation:
Take the M6 to junction 27, take the first left at the roundabout carry straight on for 5 miles. The Red Lion is on the right hand side.

worth a visitGreat value lovely clean room

A very comfortable bed in a spacious room. The bathroom was excellent, and the room was well worth the money. The food was average, part of a chain and although it was very reasonably priced it was only average pub food. I would stay here again as the rooms were lovely

Good cheap honest hotelStayed at the Red Lion to visit some friends nearby - very easy to book an great value for money. The room was very nice, super decor and a comfotable (if squeeky!) bed. Breakfast wasn't the greatest but did the job; staff were friendly and helpful.

Good value from Marstons InnsRoom was newly refurbished with nice pine furniture and wifi. Not a lot of space to sit (just one chair) but bar very roomy and welcoming. Good range of reasonably priced food. Handy place to stay if you want to explore the local lanes and Leeds/Liverpool canal on foot or on bike. Although on a fairly busy road the accommodation is set back from the road and not noisy. Excellent value for money. I will look out for other Marston Inns.

Red Lion Visit July 09Hotel room was very good. Bed lovely and flat screen tv with Freeview. More than adequate for my needs. Bathroom was clean and everything worked fine. I thought the shower was a bit on the low side and couldn't see a way to raise it.

For it's location and room a surprising find, the room being clean modern and well furnished, however the customer service was lacking in the resturant. Food wise the evening menu was limited, the food overcooked and unappetising. Service was slow and staff forgot ordered drinks until reminded, but it redeemed itself the following morning and served a great breakfast. All in all would definately stay again, just eat somewhere else.

Red LionI was looking for a room local to Skelmersdale for business and found this hotel. The rooms have all been fully moderised and are very well kept, Widesreen TV, WiFi, and great menu, well worth the money and beats all of the bigger hotel chains hand down.

Stay at Red LionThe hotel is excellent - the rooms are of a high standard and I could fit my whole family in for the price of one room - (2 parents and 3 children)

Absolutely Brilliant! I booked a room at The Red Lion the night before I visited. I was on a visit to Edge Hill University and this was the most reasonable b&b available in the area. It was half the price of most of the others in the area and therefore I was not sure what to expect. The Red Lion was easy to find, just off the M6. Upon arrival I was seen immediatly, despite there being a number of customers in the pub, and was directed to my room through the main pub area. My room was clean and well presented and had everything i needed, including a nice flatscreen tv with digital, FREE wifi, fresh towels, good hairdryer, complimentary bottled water... the list goes on. The breakfast was served in the main pub area, there was plenty of choice including cereal, fruit, yoghurt, various juices and numerous full english choices. Breakfast was served 7-9, which was perfect for me who had to be away by 9, but possibly not so brilliant for those wanting a lie in! Overall a brilliant high quality place to stay, great value for money, couldn't really have asked for more. I would definately consider staying here again in the future!!!

Great place!I stayed here just for one night, but will definitely return. Got a great price £41.95 through laterooms, I must admit, I wasn't expecting much for that price. Well, did I get a pleasant surprise, the room I got was a standard double, nothing \"standard\" about it at all, I've paid twice as much to stay in far inferior rooms; it was more like 4*, wall mounted lcd tv and not a tiny one, really comfy bed, quality towels, lovely spotlessly clean bathroom with a great shower (over bath)and free neutrogena toiletries, free bottled water in the room, and curiously earplugs, although they weren't needed, the rooms are away from the main pub and overlook the grassy courtyard. Food was cracking too, really good value and plenty of it. Plenty of choice at breakfast, I went for a full english and it set me up for the day. The team of staff should be complimented, can't do enough for you. If you get chance have a beer with some of the locals, good bunch. All in all, brilliant.

A lovely hotel, very comfortable, clean and modern room. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The Red lion was easy to find and in a pretty village location. Slept very well and had a great breakfast in the morning, i would recommend to anyone.

Absolutely marvellous!I booked this hotel speculatively having never stayed in the area before. My room was lovely, very tastefully decorated and extremely clean. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was amazing. The staff at the bar were extremely welcoming, laid back but efficient. The food was tasty and menu had a great selection. Breakfast was nice too. All in all I had a fantastic stay at the Red Lion and I would definitely go back there again or recommend it to anyone!

Modern standards, good old-fashioned serviceAn enjoyable stay in an old country inn with small but well-appointed rooms. Free internet access was a bonus. Good pub food.

Rooms are ExpensiveAlthough the rooms are clean, they are very small. Also, at night after 10:00pm as people leave the pub, it can be noisy.

The rooms are compact but have everything you need including free wireless broadband and represent very good value for money. The food in the evening was good but there were options on the standard menu that were not available, e.g. no fish for the fish & chips. Having said that, while the menu is not extensive, there was enough to find an acceptable second choice. The same problem in the morning, no croissants, but what they did have was excellant. Overall very good and would be near perfect if they got their food supplies sorted out.
