The Hotel, as usual, was excellent. We had a large room, with a small single room off for our grandson, and found this very special. The only problem was the pillows which had a covering which made them very hard. They were there to protect the pillow from the public but were so uncomfortable I thought I was laying my head on straw! Apart from this I still would return to this wonderful hotel.

On our arrival one of the reception staff was rude to some other guests and the duty manager that had an issue with there room. To his credit though the duty manager dealt with it well. Otherwise the hotel is excellent value for money.

The hotel is perfectly situated with excellent views of the sea and old Portsmouth. Only a short walk to the Victory and other places of interest. Ask for a room on the first floor overlooking the sea. Excellent champagne bar!

Stayed for two nights in a Superior Single Room. Room recently refurbished so nice decor and very clean - great view of Southsea Common, Isle of Wight and Solent.Breakfast is buffet style with good choice. Did not have dinner in hotel so cannot comment on this.Only complaint was that the receptionist did not explain use of key card to operate lights, tv etc - thought there was a power cut.Bonus for me was the family of foxes playing in the hotel garden early in the morning - kept me amused for almost an hour.Would stay here again.

The rooms we extremely dated. My colleague had to change rooms twice before she was allocated an acceptable room.

Front door extremely difficult to open, one must be fit and able to get in, I suppose this is the fitness room! The window in the room did not close properly, resulting in draughts and whislting through the night. There is a sign up in the hotel about on going renovations, but it was not obvious that any work was actually being done.TV reception in the room was useless.

Had a steak in the bar and the kitchen couldnt handle a simple request for onion rings and mushrooms to go with the chips and salad garnish. The quality of the sirloin left much to be desired and aching jaws, the chips were ok however.Breakfast was the usual self-service hot buffet which means that you have to be lucky to get a runny egg as they continue cooking in the warm units and replenishment is based on consumption.Very nice re-furbished rooms.

The hotel is currently under refurbishment. The refurbishment work did not interfere with our stay at all and the newly refurbished rooms are of a very high standard, comfortable and practical. Staff were welcoming, friendly and very patient with our active 5 year old! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Very friendly staff, good room and generally a good place to stay. The breakfast was a bit disappointing because it was self service and past 9 oclock a bit cold, but that is nit picking.

A interesting visit hotel, location, room, and value were all excellent. Arrived at 20 45 asked to eat in the resturant receptionist phoned through and the result was the kitchen had stopped serving. Sering was until 21.00 She wanted to speak with the duty manager but i said no and asked for a sandwich which she said she would prepare. Overcharged in the bar area. Sandwiches were nice and plate of chips hot. Breakfast 07.30 was ok the food had been cooked but the serving dishes did appear to have maintained the heat and the bacon egg etc were all luke warm, still there was plenty of choice. left the Hotel with mixed felings and blamed myself for my late arrival but then again it was before 21.00 should have complained about the breakfast but was it really worth the hassle especially when the consideration is there are lots of other Hotels!! Dificult to judged whether I would stop again it really ticked some boxes and not others, would I recommend probaly as the hotel was conmfortable but consider eating out or arrive better still arrive early.

The hotel is operating while undergoing a complete refurbishment which I found surprising as things looked very similar to when I last stayed here about15 years ago ( when it was also being refurbished). The lobby, main bar and restaurant have been elegantly restored but other areas of the hotel are still shabby.

The hotel was undergoing a programme of refurbishment, the room wew stopped inn was on the second floor and was refurbished to a good clean standard. Staff very helpful and friendly, food very nice and hot, only one very small minor criticism, was that there are newflatscreen tv s in the rooms but the aerial are old and the quality of the picture was poor, but thats only a small let down to a very pleasant warm welcomed stay. Would recommend

The Food was good and Joyce your Restaurant Manager was very accommodating and helpful, an absolute lovely lady. Our room 236 had no running cold water in the bath and no heating. We informed reception who acted on it straight away and while we were having our breakfast got the hotel maintenance man to fix both of these. Quality of room was good apart from the extremely bad draught coming from the bathroom window. These are only being mentioned not really as a criticism but just to keep you informed.

The room was a bit shabby and a memeber of the bar staff was quite rude but the breakfast was excellent.

The room, a single, was very small, and the furnishings were scrappy and outdated. I had a great sea view, being on a par with the eaves!
