The service is very good. Very nice personnel. We will come back in October 2008.

We stayed here because of the location. This hotel is close to the beach, shopping, and inexpensive dining. We were a little skeptical at first glance out of our window because there was a transmission shop. The noise was actually minimal, but you will hear the air compressor. There is no private patio or balcony. The parking is also a struggle, as there are spaces under the hotel, but for compact cars only. The spaces outside are few and unfortunatly many small cars take those, leaving no room for mid or larger vehicles. The room was small, but clean. All in all, our stay was pleasant.

Hard boiled eggs at breakfast tasted bad. This was our second time staying at here. It's quiet, clean and affordable. We enjoyed our stay much more than we did at the resort next to Lego land the next night.

Hotel is quaint, little walkways with patios, looks and feels european. Rooms were very clean, just a few blocks from great beach and little beach town with shops. Very good value for the money!

We needed a reasonably priced place close to the beach and Sea World with a room large enough for 4 adults and a five year old. We were delighted with our room, close to 300 square feet with a jacuzzi with and two queen sized beds. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. There was ample closet space but the bathroom was a bit small but adequate. One of the features of the motel that we enjoyed was a common sitting area outside of our room where we could sit and drink a beer or our morning coffee.. The breakfast was decent featuring cinnamon buns delivered daily by a local bakery. The beach is close but does require a hike. We were 45 easy minutes from Sea World and 30 minutes from Joe's Crab Shack. Also, there are some nice places to eat close to the motel including a great little Taco stand and a magnificent coffee/breakfast place both within walking distance. Some might say parking was a bit of a challenge since the spaces are beneath the building and have support poles between them. That said, all vehicles are in the shade and secure during the night. One of the drawbacks for people with children would be the lack of a large pool. They do have a very nice spa that is clean and well maintained that we enjoyed with our 5 year old but it did not afford the fun of a large pool. The management was friendly and attentive to our needs.

Ichose this hotel because they had a jacuzzi for my daughter. The desk staff was very nice. My daughter loved that they had a jacuzzi. The only thingI didn't like was that the pillows were not comfortable.

I stayed for an after Christmas and New Years Eve get together with my friends. Our stay at the Portofino was better then expected, especially for the money.. The rooms were clean, spacious and well appointed. The real plus, was the short walk to town and the most beautiful beach. We understood that they were going through some renovations, but the staff more then made up for any minor inconvenience's. We are looking forward to summer, for our return trip.MH

Very convenient for what my purposes. The room and hotel are kind of dingy.

Our week in San Diego was a memorable vacation for our family and we owe a lot to The Staff at the Portofino Beach Inn in Encinitas who made sure that all our needs were met and that our stay would turn out to be a wonderful experience. The rooms are cozy, full of useful amenities, our kids enjoyed the Spa, the staff was friendly and gave us suggestions for places to visit, restaurants and beaches. For the price we paid, the value offered was excellent. would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a decent and affordable hotel in coastal San Diego

Very friendly staff. Room was clean. New appliances. Hotel staff was very friendly. Room was basic as expected but very clean. All appliances worked. Room had a fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer, TV and a good phone. Hotel has a small/medium sized hot tub that was also very clean and fun. Breakfast provided in the morning in the lobby was good. Overall very happy with our stay.

Hotel website states 2 blocks from beach. It's actually 5 blocks and includes a steep hill. Housekeeping needs improved. Don't get room with adjoining room - door between the 2 rooms is paper thin.

The staff was very helpful and friendly in accomodating us when we came across a problem with one of the feature highlights of the room. Overall, our stay was acceptable/adequate. The location is within minutes of the beach and downtown Encinitas. It was still close enough for our short overnight. Everything is within walking distance.

It was clean, walking distance to Moonlight Beach and a few minutes by Freeway to Legoland. Parking. Staff was friendly and overall the hotel was very clean.

Nothing. Very dirty hotel. Very dirty hotel. It shouldn't be even given permit of hotel. I wouldn't stay there for free. Staff was good but hotel was very bad.

Quiet, safe, convenient to freeway, restaurants, and beach. No pool, parking spaces awkwardly narrow. The Quality Inn is conveniently located 3 blocks from Moonlight Beach, and within walking distance of many area restaurants. It is a short drive on surface streets to Legoland in Carlsbad, and a few blocks from the freeway. While the structure itself is older and the rooms smaller in size, the pillows, linens, and bathroom were nice quality. The older in-room heater worked well. There is a large tiled jacuzzi available, but no pool. They offer a small continental breakfast bar in the mornings consisting of 2-3 bakery type items, boiled eggs, apples, juice, and coffee.

The location was ideal. No elevators. Excellent hotel for star level. The location to the beach was outstanding. The only things that would have improved the hotel would be to have elevators and additional parking that was easy to access.

Clean, excellent and close to beach. Great location and close to beach.

Hard boiled eggs. The tree limbs kept hitting the side of the motel all night long. The room was located next to trees that needed their limbs cut. The tree limbs scraped against the hotel all night keeping me awake.
