We booked a family room for the night over the internet. On arrival, we were met by reception staff who admitted he didn't know what he was doing, and tried to charge us 4 times the amount of our confirmation price. He also asked us for a £25 security that would not be charged to my account. I then checked out the next day and realized I had been charged this fee. I inquired twice to the hotel to no avail, and then had to write to head office of Quality Hotels, which I am still waiting for a solution, and refund!

As to the hotel, the corridor was very shabby with external wiring, the room was very old fashioned, broken furniture, there was a layer of dust above the headboards, and bedside cabinets, the tv had limited channels and only two channels were visible due to inaccurate tuning, the safety lock mechanism on the window was broken, there was no heating, the air conditioning unit didn't work, we were given two towels for 4 people, the bathroom had a sign saying, "water unsuitable for drinking" which meant we couldn't use the tea/coffee facilities, the bathroom had mold all over, the water was yellow, the floor tiles were broken, the bars and leisure centre were closed, only one elevator worked, the restaurant only served food at breakfast and from 6:30 til 9:00 in the evening with a very limited menu. The only good point this hotel has is its location. Badly needs refurbished to take it back to its deserved grand state!

| We had read grand descriptions of the hotel, boasting all its supposed amenities and room facilities and design.
On arrival, we were met by reception staff who admitted to "not knowing what he was doin",and he tried to charge over 4 times the rate at which was confirmed during online booking.
He asked another member of staff to help, and this was supposedly resolved. He then stated that we would have to leave our debit card details for a £25 security hold but this would not be charged.
After awaiting 10 mins on the elevator, due to the other 2 being broken, we finally arrived to our room, struggling with our luggage.
We were met by an old fashioned, run down bedroom which had torn wallpaper, broken shabby furniture, grotty old bedding which consisted of one blanket each with a cotton sheet, a thick layer of dust on the units and headboards, and not forgetting a disgusting spore riddled bathroom.
The bathroom was full of mold, broken floor tiles, dirt ingrained wall tiles and a notice stating that "water was unsuitable for drinking".
This is something you would expect in a third world country, not in Glasgow!
We clearly believed that the water was a hazard when we decided to take a bath and found that the water was yellow!
The window security lock was broken, allowing for full opening of the window, how this passed health and safety issues I do not know! Especially when we had a 9 year old child with us, who quite easily could have reached the window sill, while 4 floors up!
There was no heating, even although when we telephoned down to reception, were advised to use the unit in the room, which was in fact an air conditioning unit which was broken.
We decided to explore the hotel, and found that the supposed grand bars were closed, and that the restaurant only served a limited menu from 6:30 pm until 9pm. Therefore there was nowhere to eat or drink, despite them having a notice on the door stating,"only food and drink purchased in this hotel may be consumed". Were we supposed to starve?
We also found that the "newly refurbished leisure centre and swimming pool" were in fact "Closed for refurbishment".
After a restless, disappointing night, we were glad to be leaving and checking out. Although, our disappointment didn't end there.
On visiting the bank,I found that I had been charged the £25 to my account. I telephoned the hotel to be told that I hadn't. I explained that I had written proof in a bank statement, and this was when she said I would be refunded within the hour. Which 3 hours later I wasn't. So I telephoned the hotel again to be told that I would have to wait 3 days?
3 days for an electronic debit to my account which any other time is instant, and of which I should not have been charged for in the first place! She then said that she would deal with it right away and telephone me back, and yes..she didn't!
It is now a full day later, and I still haven't been refunded my £25, nor have I received my telephone call!
I being Scottish,am disgusted that people from all over the world are visiting the first and nearest hotel ajoining the largest train station in Glasgow, only to be met by this hotel!
Having stayed at various hotels within Glasgow and the surrounding area, and experienced an amazing, high standard, feel that this hotel gives tourists and visitors to our country the completely wrong impression of what is available!
This hotel should be reported to Trading Standards and the Environmental Health Board! |

I had a very comfortable stay at the Quality Hotel Glasgow. The staff were very friendly and helpful. However - two things were not quite right. I had to ask for help opening the window in my room - and help was forthcoming although the person said that usually people did not open the wiondows and if it was hot a fan would be provided! I understood WHY when the window was open - the space outside the window was absolutly filthy with layers of thick dirt and cigareete buts etc. Quite a shock, in fact! Secondly, the price of breakfast is exhorbitant! I did feel I had excellent value for money, however, having got the reduced internet rate.

For the Late Rooms price, it was good value for money. However I would not pay the hotel price! The room was shabby and the hallway reeked of smoke. It faced into the station, but it wasn't too noisy (a plus).

Non smoking room was on 5th floor up elevator and then stairs. No trolley for bags or help with baggage. It is OVER the train station. Heat was controlled by opening window. No airport shuttle. TV was 13 inch with limited channels. Very noisy corridors and walls. Staff was always ""sorry"" about the fact only 1 elevate ran at a time. We were offered a ""better"" smoking room but we needed a non smoking one. Not very mobility limited friendly.

This old building was clean enough, although it could do with a bit of a spring clean and a refurb in places, really. Same as other reviews I've read, only one lift out of three working, and that's infuriatingly slow, so I took the stairs all other times - up and down to the 5th floor. Situated right at the train station (one entrance opens into the station), and the fact that it's only minutes away from Glasgow's main areas makes its location ideal.

Great hotel for city centre action - in the midst of shops, bars and restaurants. Very handy if you have travelled by train as the hotel is right on the station.

clean but tired. A bit like student digs, except clean. Bathroom was big enough but was in poor state. Like I say like student rental accommodation. But very convenient and quiet considering location. Probably not great in good weather tho as only way to cool down room is to open window but then it would be very noisy.

a lovely building but in such bad condition. Rooms clean but the whole building looks as if it needs a serious renovation and makeover. Room decor shabby, corridors very poor.

The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The decor was a bit in need of repair. However the main complaint was that the fire alarm was activated, for a short period, on 5 separate occasions during the night. When I mentioned this at reception on leaving I was told it was because some guests smoked in their rooms. However it meant a very disturbed night.

I looked forward to this hotel but left disappointed. I paid less than the full rate for the room and after seeing the service i am pleased i paid no more than what i did. The service at the reception was not great, breakfast was worse and the only bright points were the helpful porter and very good barman. My room looked over the main road and although i did not get woken up by the noise i did find the oppressive heat in my room, slightly overbearing even with my radiator turned off. I spoke to other guests there and another room i looked at had a hard to open window with overgrowth outside and no view at all. I would stay again if i got a similar rate again but otherwise, unlikely.

All of the light fuses in my room blew by the time I left (the one in the bathroom even left smoke stains up the wall!), and although I'd been warned about the elevators being out, it ended up more annoying than I thought. Breakfast was great though and the location was superb, so overall I'd still recommend it to others.

Although the hotel is rather shabby in parts, the beds were comfortable and the linen spotless. The towels too were spotless and of a good quality. Our room was spacious with a generous supply of tea, coffee and milk.

The location of this hotel is superb, in the middle of Glasgow and with access from Central Station as well as Gordon Street. Wi-fi access at the hotel was 5 for an hour and 9 for 24 hours when I visited in May. Parking for the hotel is just 5 per night at Oswald Street car park, from which you can walk through Central Station straight to the hotel (park on level 5 of the car park). 5 is excellent value for a secure city centre car park. The breakfast was very good with a good selection of items, all well cooked. The hotel was worth the rate that I paid, but I wouldn't pay any more than around 60-70 per night for it. The bad points were the fact that the lift was unreliable (and only 1 at the hotel was working) and that some areas such as the corridors and doors needed to be updated and modernised. But the hotel is well worth the rates quoted on this website.

I stayed here as I was arriving late into Glasgow train station and i just wanted somewhere as close as possible. The hotel wasn't great - none of the three lifts were working and it was quite a trek up to the fourth floor round a large staircase. The room was very date but spacious. Wallpaper hanging off walls and paint peeling off the ceiling. If you need somewhere close to the station and cheap this is the place but it's not somewhere I would go with my wife and kids.

Hotel in very poor state of repair, corridors more like student house than professional hotel, 2 out of 3 lifts not working, rooms intensely uncomfortably hot with radiators that cannot be turned off, extremely slow poor service at desk. Cheap but certainly not cheerful. Would not recommend to anyone.
