| Never again! Definitely not a 4-star hotel!
We (my wife and I) wanted to stay in this hotel, chosen in internet due to what we thought is a good rate and proximity to city center. We have lived in Antwerp for couple of years, so we knew city quite well and this hotel looked so nice from outside - very nice classical belgian yard, but that was all of it, unfortunately.
When we have arrived we have got room 101, and immediately we had a problem in our bathroom - water was coming out of toilet pot so we had a small flood all over bathroom and corridor area. Hotel have changed the room one floor higher - no flood this time, but overall condition of room is miserable.
First, room needed URGENT refurbishing - everything looked so old and tired - carpet, yellowish walls/ceiling, old-fashioned conditioner, scratches and cracks here and there, no shower curtain in the bathroom, very old towels. Second - on the ceiling you can see spider webs, and finally we've got a small spider right in our bed. Third - beds are a different story - despite it is a double room, it is actually two separate beds put together, but the blankets were another disaster - reminded me back into boyscout camp. It is just a woolen blanket with a simple bed linen under it, matresses are old and soft. Not enough light in the room.
Unfortunately, this was not it. Somehow our credit card given during booking time didn't go through - hotel asked us to PREPAY for the whole stay in advance, even despite the fact that we have given another card number. Moreover, when we started to complain about the room - manager called us and said that "if you are not satisfied, then you'd better look for another hotel!", which was really rude and embarrasing, without even excuse for the quality of stay. Then even better - hotel charged us for breakfast for the first day (we had early arrival) - additional 40 Eur - without any warning by the staff that it will be extra. 40 Eur is ROBBERY!!! This breakfast doesn't worth even half of it! Believe me - go to Horta cafe in the center of Antwerp - for 15 Eur/person you can have a breakfast with glass of champaign, parma ham, eggs, salmon, fresh fruit smoothie etc. - nothing compared to the breakfast served in Prinse. Moreover, our card was charged in our absence without authorization!
We left hotel after 2 nights of stay instead of 5, and moved to another place. When I asked a manager she told me that it's a "crisis time in Antwerp" (what a silly argument!) and that there are lots of hotels available. Luckily, it was of no problem to us as there are many hotels and we knew the city. But if you are unfamiliar with Antwerp - it might be a challenge to look around.
So overall recommendation - for this money (135 Eur/night) or a little extra you can find FAR BETTER hotels with a far better attitude to guests. I highly urge you to NOT to stay at Prinse, choose something else. |
