As a rule I have always done my research and checks on anything that I have booked online, but a family member going into hospital in Birmingham left me no choice but to booked somewhere quickly, last minute and within budget. What a huge mistake!! I read the description on Prime Lodge and it came across as a quaint little lodge with ensuite facilities and generally sounded pleasant. I hastily booked a room and then took the three and a half hour drive to Birmingham where my sister in law was taken into hospital. Once I made sure my sister in law was fairly settled at the hospital and I was satisfied she was ok, I took the drive to find Prime Lodge. Oh my God! When I had found the 'hotel' I was absolutley devastated! I pulled into only what can only be described as a rough, dirty council estate. I was met by an 8ft high barbed wire metal fence, surrounding what looked like a white, disused grubby building in the middle. It looked more like a homeless shelter. I sat in my car for a while and made sure I was at the right place. To be certain, I took another drive around the area and was met with the most terrifying and disappointing prospect that this was in fact Prime Lodge and this was the place I had booked to stay. The area was extremely intimidating for a young female travelling alone. The 'hotel' looked more like a lock-up with no front windows on the ground floor (it almost looked boarded up!). It was also situated right in the middle of a council estate next to and old church which just made it seem all too creepy. The 8ft fence surrounding this building they called a 'hotel' made me feel even more uneasy about my own safety. The thought of even setting foot in this place scared the hell out of me and I didnt know what to do. I thought about returning to the hospital and sleeping in my car for the night. I realised that the thought of sleeping in my car made me feel so much better - relieved in fact!! It was at this point that I decided to turn around and go back to the hospital. I didnt even check in to Prime Lodge. I was too scared at the area, I was too scared at what it was like inside and more importantly I was too sacred at what might happen to me if I set foot inside the building. I cannot comment on the facilities, service or rooms. But I can comment on the cleanliness of the exterior and the location and warn any other persons travelling alone or even in a group not to go there. I ended up staying at the hospital that night. I told them what had happend and they very kindly set up a bed in my sister in laws room. I would have slept in my car with no complaints compared to attempting to stay at Prime Lodge. When I came back from Birmingham, I decided to properly research Prime Lodge. It seems some poor people have stayed at this 'hotel' and it also seems to have very poor reviews. I am so glad I listened to my gut instinct and didnt stay the night. I may have lost my money, they can keep it!! This place should be investigated. Im sure if it were to be investigated thoroughly, it would be closed down immediately.

cheap, but not very chearful.Arrived at the hotel at about 10 at night, had to be let in through the 8ft high gate with barbed wire around!the hotel is right next to a very busy and noisy main road. No chance of sleeping at all. One man working on the desk who barley said 2 words, name and card i think it was. we had a double en-suit room. the room was not very clan at all, the bed had a plastic sheet under the bed sheet, so you ended up sliding around all night and getting all sweaty. ( imagine how many others have had the same sweaty experiance). and the bathroom was a death trap, soaking wet floor when we arrived, and that didnt improve, plus electrical wires hanging out of the walls with no covers! all round, not that great. i have hiked along the south coast of afria and stayed in youth hostels that are much nicer! this is certainly not a 3 star hotel! in fact im not sure that it deserves any stars at all. cheap though. You really do get what you pay for

not againwe did not have daily clean towel or replacements of teabag and mill.there no shower lotion or shampoo in shower roomthe bed was only 4 ft wide and the sheet was sliding loose because the bottom sheet was for a wider bed.

This is not a 3* hotel! The over all experience we had of this hotel was appalling. The man who served us charged us twice for the rooms, when I kept telling him the first payment went through! The hotel smelt of curry and it was pleasant, the service was disgusting and the rooms even more disappointing! It is certainly not a 3* and believe this should be looked at. We certainly wont be returning back thats for sure. I guess you get what you pay for and we certainly did. Not a nice place and I wouldnt recommend this place to any one. Next time I'd rather pay a bit more and to be sure we will be stopping some where a lot nicer!

You get what you pay for i guess. Man on the desk was nice enough but room was small. Bed up against wall. Duvet sheet seemed clean but bottom sheet was the thinnest of thin covering a plastic mattress that makes you sweat. Also bottom sheet was stained. As I was alone in a double room I slept on duvet itself and rolled double half back over me (in that makes sense), bed itself was comfy enough. Room was warm, carpets were disgusting. Sink plug did not work, Toilet flush seemed to take a while before water fell to normal level in bowl. Shower was excellent but shower tray did not drain quick enough and a power shower soon had the tray overflowing. Obviously they have drainage problems. Only tea in room not coffee. Ensuite tiny. Toilet cistern screwed to an untreated piece of 4"x 2" onto wall. Office type of ceiling tiles with many gaps in it seemed dodgy but maybe i have just seen too many films, TV worked erratically and only to an internal area that was on top of wardrobe with tv. Car park seemed secure behind big gates. Area felt intimidating. If you drive I suggest you sleep in your car.

we arrived at this hotel to find that the room was not good at all. There were heel marks on the wall, tea splashed on the walls. The tele was not working, the dvd was broken. We asked for a smoking room and we got a non smoking room, so the manager told us to lean out of the window to have a cigerette,We were not happy with the room the bed was very small , the carpet was fraying, the whole experience was terrible

I cannot imagine with the description given by the owners, and what a customer ends up with in reality, that we could possibly be talking about the same venue!!! In my humble opinion, it is DIRE! It is literally one step up from a homeless shelter. . I thought something was amiss when we were asked for payment as soon as we arrived rather than on check out. Shoddy, tacky, small rooms, mould growing, of VERY poor standard. On the positive side, the owners were very polite and obliged us when we requested a change of room. (i couldn't cope with a double bed being right up against a wall on one side because the room was too small) The next room was only marginally better, but had a bathroom light that didnt work. I ended up sleeping in my clothes as there was no underblanket, just a plastic mattress and cheap poly cotton sheet on the top!!! UUUGGGHHHH!!! I wasnt expecting a whole lot for £40.00 per night but even this surpassed any of my wildest misgivings!! You have been warned.

we couldnt find hotel and they werent very helpful when we called to ask them. when we got there it was in the middle of a council estate. as we got to are rooms all the heating was off and all the bedding was dirty and bathroom lights did not work . it told us almost an hour before the rooms were warm for just to take are coats off it was that bad . i have stayed in a number of hotels at this price and have be treated better.

advertised as brand new - yes it was i think - but not finished! asked for another room after seeing the first, was not much of an improvement. both rooms smelt very damp, walls unpainted and heavily marked (? from builders) pipes in bathroom and radiator fully exposed, window sills filthy, carpets heavily soiled and stained, had to ask for towels, given 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel for two of us, they were very good for exfoliating!! tea and coffee making facilities ment a kettle and two teabags. on the good side, the bed was clean, sheets were thin enough to see through though. i had to hold my nose to go into the bathroom, definatley a drainnage problem and i am not sure how hygenic padded toilet seats are?! all in all, i accept we only paid £40 for the room, but i have stopped in far superior youth hostels for alot less money, if we had thought we could have found vacancys in another hotel at 7pm on a saturday night in birmingham city centre we definatly would have left. this hotel was awful by anyones standards in an area both my husband and i felt unsafe being out in the street.

we were pleaseantly surprised having read some of the comments. this hotel was very reasonable and the guy on reception was very helpful. we had to wait for breakfast to be prepared at 9.10 even although it was supposed to be served from 9am.beds were clean (towel a bit hard), radiator/heating worked and the tv reception was acceptable. very quite at night and secure parking with cctv. if i needed a cheap place to stay the night i'd go back again

My husband and I were extremely disappointed with this accommodation, I was going to say hotel but no way could you describe this as a hotel. It was not clean! Ther was a ball of dirt in the bathroom which had gathered around an old bit of plastic discarded on the floor, it had obviousy had not been cleaned for some time. The sheets on the bed were grubby and may have been used previously without being washed though i cannot prove this, but I was concerned. This place is described as 3 star - a joke for the starring system. Breakfast was in a room with sheets and coats drying on radiators and backs of chairs. It consisted of fried eggs, toast and a tub of previously used margarine with a knife stuck in the top. I cannot tell you how bad this place was unless I write a 3 page essay.

I did not enjoy my stay. However, at their prices I couldn't genuinely expect better. It was fairly easy to find and basically comfortable if you're not fussy. If all you want is a bed and a shower, go for it. However, if you expect to live in comfort, you're as well finding somewhere a little more upmarket. It's about fifteen minutes from the centre (though not well-connected to the ICC) so if you need somewhere to crash it's worth staying. However, if you have very high standards or children, you're better off trying elsewhere.

Arrived late by taxi from Birmingham new street- card machine wasnt working at prime lodge so i had to walk ten minutes on the main road to the nearest arab district to find a cash machine which charged me £1.63 to get cash out to pay for the room. A double bed was good as i only asked for a single. No key to open the window as i was hot when i arrived. TV had very very bad reception. Towels were coverd in a mat of black hair and dust but the shower was quite new and clean. The hotel manager was on his mobile phone ALL the time even whilst talking to customers! Bit overpriced for what it was and location. But suppose it is a large city.

It was very easy to find and on a good bus route from the city centre - even within walking distance for someone with twenty-five minutes to spare and not much luggage. The things that really matter were spotlessly clean (bedding, towels, shower, basin, toilet) but the windowsill could have done with a scrub and there were cobwebs in the bathroom. The TV picture was fuzzy, as if the aerial wasn't plugged in, but I didn't want to watch it anyway. I'd have preferred a radio, preferably with a clock and alarm.I didn't mind in the slightest that my room wasn't cleaned in the 3 nights I was there but should have preferred to be told. As I like my tea very weak the fact that there were only two teabags was no problem and presumably more would have been provided for the asking. The light outside the window shone through the blind, making sleep difficult for anyone used to a completely dark bedroom. Each morning there was someone (staff?) smoking in the car park and the smoke drifted through the window if I opened it before leaving for the day.The front doorbell and doors inside the building opening and closing were too audible for comfort. The proprietor helpfully offered to order a taxi for me the morning I was in a hurry. Actually I'd already ordered one and he was concerned when it didn't arrive on time, in fact more concerned than I was because I simply went over the road and was in the city centre in less than 10 minutes on a bus.Although I've ticked the No box above re staying there again, I would if I couldn't find anywhere else reasonably priced.
