Romantic, Dramatic, Opulence at it best!A very last minute booking took us to the Prestonfield. Hadn't heard of it and couldn't really tell what it was like from it's website, a well hidden gem only a stroll from the centre of Edinburgh, if you enjoy walking...exceptional service from each and evry member of staff we met, was treated the same as any other customer no matter what we had paid to stay. Had room service as had arrived late in the evening, took a while for food to arrive as only soups and club sandwich ordered. Had to send this straight back as it arrived with a hair on top, small thing, but felt that in a five star hotel and costing £16.00 I had to send it back. A fresh sandwich was sent along with two complimentary glasses of champagne as way of an apology. This definitely made up for any inconvenience and staff very apologetic. Air con in room was great, very quiet and peaceful location, parking added bonus, next to a golf course and peacocks wandering around the grounds. Only complaint really was that bed quite hard, though having had several glasses of wine the second night this wasn't such an issue and slept much better.

The Emperor has no clothes onHaving stayed at Prestonfield on two previous occasions, I was shocked by how far the standards had slipped. The room had clearly not been vacuumed (very dusty adn scattered with nail clippings) and equally in the restuarant. The breakfast buffet clearly had yesterday's rolls and it took nearly 30 minutes for a plate fo scrambled eggs and bacon to arrive.

Decandence!We had a lovely night in the Prestonfield for our anniversary.The staff were friendly and attentive, but not obtrusive.The food was incredible.The whole experience made us forget our troubles and escape to paradise!Many, amny thanks to all at the Prestonfield.

Good hotel but a £10 taxi everytime you want to go into Edinburgh

Everything about this hotel was fantastic. From the moment of our arrival to departure we were very impressed with the whole luxury experience. Our room was very special and the Rhubarb restaurant was excellent. The wine we ordered was not chilled quick enough so we were given a glass of the starter wine gratis which was a nice touch. The Barman was very attentive and even persuaded us to have a nightcap on the house which finished us off completely. All the staff were very pleasant and attentive and really made us feel welcome. We felt this was the first of many visits.

Well this was a treat! We had to visit Edinburgh for a thoroughly inconvenient meeting as we are moving house at the end of the week so decided to stay in a nice hotel as a bit of a treat in the midst of all the madness...now we think a night at Prestonfield should be reccommended to anyone who needs to forget about \"real life\" for 24 hours! A beautiful house, set in fabulous ground and the interiors were one delight after another. We were thrilled to find a bottle of champagne and cookies awaiting us in our room and the food in Rhubarb was fantastic. Service was wonderfully attentive without being intrusive and the overall experience was one of relaxed decadence and throughly deserved indulgence. There are too many lovely, thoughtful touches to detail here but the overall experience was wonderful. We will return as soon as possible! Thanks for a wonderful break!

Hotel was beautiful, wish we could have stayed longer. Very decadent and romantic. Champagne + chocolates on arrival. plus there are peacocks roaming around! Will definitely be going back.

My husband and I booked Prestonfield for 2 noghts stay in August. The hotel itself is lovely and certainly unique due to the park with peacocks! Having champagne on ice and n the room on arrival was a nice touch.. We had dinner in the Rhubarb restaurant. The meal was nice. Breakfast was copious with a large selection of continental and cooked stuff to order. all the staff here are friendly in fact allowed us to make the most of our first stay in this beautiful city. Our room was great Worth a visit! And as for me I hope to come again

Reviews trumpet the luxury, indulgence, theatricality of this hotel. All true: but we also remarked upon its comfort; the efficient but warm service; the secluded location which made for a peaceful stay even though it was the height of the Edinburgh Festival. Our room had a stunning view, a deep bath, an inviting bed, fluffy bath robes and a bottle of champagne waiting for us. The rain prevented us taking advantage of the extensive grounds, but we made full use of the excellent restaurant. A hotel with a big personality.

This is pure luxury in a stunning location in Edinburgh. We were upgraded to a suite which was amazing - pure theatre and very indulgent! It immediately made us feel we were going to be looked after. The complimentary champagne and chocolate puds got the evening off to a great start. The dinner was exceptional and cooked breakfast, probably the best we have ever experienced. Coffee was taken in the upstairs leather room which was delightfully cosy. However above all the other pluses the staff were superb - every last one of them and it makes such a difference to a hotel stay. It may seem expensive but is worth every penny and we will definitely be back, sooner rather than later - I hope!

Nice hotel. Fabulous grounds. Unfortunately, we waited 55 mins for our starter with all of the staff posted missing when we tried to find out what was happening. Mains quickly followed! Â£30 for 6oz fillet, cooked well but quite tough. Desserts were on the house which was a nice gesture but a little too late. 2 courses, nice bottle of wine, 2 after dinner drinks and the bill was Â£180!There is no bar area as such, only individual rooms. This causes problems when some are booked out for private functions and you relax in one but have to go walkies to find someone to take a drinks order!The rooms were fine. A little trendy for the \"older\" generation as there is a lot of mood lighting and did seem quite dark!Breakfast on the day of our departure was good. Large continental selection and everything else cooked to order. On reflection, I would stay at the hotel again as I believe it was possibly a one off in the restaurant. The rest of the diners seemed to be having a nice time! The staff were, on the whole, very pleasant.

We had a fantastic night at the Prestonfield, it's a 10 min taxi ride from Waverly station but felt like staying in the country. We couldn't fault our room which was beautiful with the most comfortable bed and a lovely bathroom. Public areas were amazing - very opulant, the food was wonderful and the service excellent - attentive but not pushy. Would definately recommend and hope to return again soon.
