Description:
Probably the first hotel in Guanajuato, and certainly the best known , the Posada Santa Fe is the place to stay in town. Not only does it house a venerable collection of the works of local artist and historian Manuel Leal, it also has the most desirable tables for soaking up the local atmosphere - right on the lively Jardin de la Union.Enter the magnificent lobby and you could be in one of the finest hotels in Mexico. Lofty beamed ceilings, delicate chandeliers and antique chairs all fade into insignificance alongside the giant paintings dominating the walls. The off-lobby restaurant has the same setting, as does the lounge, with antique chairs and couches perfect for pre-dinner cocktails. Guest rooms are approached up a winding staircase, with a colorful tile surround. The rooms themselves vary from the high ceiling suites at the front of the hotel to simpler decor at the back. All have a certain charm, a slightly faded grandeur, yet updated with modern facilities. The hotel has been owned and managed by the same family for several generations, and although there are exciting plans for future improvements, the emphasis is on retaining the historic and the traditional. Meals served in the restaurants are as good as the setting, and the location is the best in town. Guanajuato itself is not short of attractions and only problem could be trying to drag away. Amenities: Business center, free parking, high-speed internet, restaurant, room service, and wireless internet.

Excellent location, high priced for what they offer, not very friendly employees, good restaurant, noisy rooms, had to move after check in, great location to walk around downtown area, would probably stay somewhere else in the future. The city is beautiful and inexpensive!

The room I was originally given was without windows, like the interior rooms on a ship. The second room I was shown was on a street with noise. The third one was great on the square with window. It was a pleasant stay., considering it was at the center of the city.

My gf and I stayed at this Hotel 3 days. The city itself was very enjoyable but not the Hotel where we spent the night. The Staff is cold and money hungry. They did not help us feel welcomed at all even though we did all we could to be friendly with them. It was a weird experience staying at this Hotel. It is not recommended for young people.

when checked in was given a very small dark room. contacted front desk for a change and we were accommodated. there is no elevator and several flights of stairs, however a bellman carried our bags to the room. rooms it appears are undergoing some renovation. our room had new double windows which did keep out the noise, however the bathroom has not been renovated. Beds were comfortable and mattresses appeared to be new. There is no air conditioning, but a fan is in the room. there is a safe available at no cost at the front desk. depending upon how much you pay, breakfast is included. hotel is within walking distance of the university of guanajuato and many historic sites. there are english speaking tours easily available on the square outside the hotel. banks are close as is office to purchase bus tickets, either lst class or economy to other cities or states. Felt very personally safe at all times.

This is a great location, but a tired property. Rooms are shabby, bathroom not well equipped, water in shower only lukewarm. Room very loud, with rattling metal roof outside all night.

Posada de Sante Fe had a lovely park outside the door. There were mariachi's serenading, a Mexican band in the bandstand land vendors offering quality merchandise. There were restaurants near. good shopping, and theater. The hotel iwas comfortable and well maintained. The room was small but with TV, ample closet space, and clean. We were pleased with this accommodation and would return if in Guanajuato again.

The negatives to The HOTEL Posada Santa Fe are that the guest rooms do not look anything like the lobby or dinning room, which were charming. The beds were so warn they had a terrible sag in the middle, there were no windows in the room and we were sent to the way back of the hotel even though there were empty rooms closer to the front near the stairs. There were also bugs on the walls in the room of unknown variety which was concerning. There was a vanity with mirror and a television. The bathroom was not well lighted and the shower was very small. They did offer soap and shampoo. The second negative was the quality of the food. We only had breakfast but the eggs in our machaca were so burned, we could not eat them. I would not recommend their restaurant! The positive about this hotel is the location. You are right on the plaza and within a close walk to almost everything. There are dinning tables on the plaza and you can sit and watch the people coming and going which was great but I only recommend cocktails.

The staff was always friendly and helpful. The rooms were kept clean. The administration, laundry, maid, and front desk staff was always courteous. The service was great! I would stay there again. The hotel was in the center of things. In the really old quaint part of central Guanajuato, which is the cultural center of Mexico and the 1st town to be built in Mexico. It is very old European, an artists dream. Always someting interesting going on. The room was large, separate large bath room, there was a desk, dresser and a full length mirror, fan,a stand for suitcases, an easy chair and comfortable bed. Nicely decorated and very clean.

the location of the hotel was right in the center of the town which was very convinient. You step out the front door to the center of the beautiful little town. there were lots of restaurants to choose from, however on Sunday morning at 6am, 5 different churches within 1 to 2 blocks started ringing their bells every 15 minutes for 6 solid hours!! The hotel has no air so all the windows have to be open all the time. There was no sleeping after 6am. And then at noon, canyons are fired every 5 to 6 minutes for 20 to 30 minutes. The bed was like sleeping on a double wide wooden coffin. There was a fan on a stand that was wobbly and bounced around while it was on. Everything is covered with years and years of dust so if you have allergies, beware.

The Posada Sante Fe was comfortable, the staff was friendly. The best part was the location... right in the middle of the old town facing the jardin. Great place to watch people, and no need for a car to walk to restaurants and sights. Rooms were ok, but a little dark. Great bathroom and shower. The lobby and sitting rooms reminded me of old european hotels.
