Location Description:
Conveniently situated between the residential area of Ciudad Jard?n, the airport and the city of Palma, the Hotel Portofino overlooks one of the most beautiful and best equipped beaches in Mallorca. The hotel has direct access to the motorway which runs between Palma and Santany? with an exit to the airport. The hotel is only a few meters from the magnificent seaside promenade which runs along the entire bay of Palma, past El Molinar, Portixol and Ciudad Jard?n as far as Playa de Palma. Take a relaxing stroll and enjoy views of the cathedral, Bellver Castle, the luxury yachts in the Real Club N?utico of Palma, etc.
Dining:
In the Portofino restaurant you will find the best of Tuscan traditional cuisine, well-known for the most superior basic ingredients and its exquisitely simple recipes, not forgetting the special flavour added by top-quality olive oil. Visit our trattoria and enjoy the wide range of the "show cooking" as our chef prepares the appetizing "pasta fresca" or puts a succulent pizza into the oven. Of course, in the Portofino restaurant we have not forgotten the crowning feature of the best Italian cuisine - an exceptional wine cellar with select international wines; as the old Tuscan saying goes: "un pranzo senza vino a come un giorno senza sole" [a meal without wine is like a day without sun]. How better to end a day than with a cocktail in the tranquil atmosphere of our Soave Bar & Terrace or enjoying good music in the Portofino Piano Bar. Visit our Portofino restaurant and appreciate the best of both worlds: a traditional Italian trattoria combined with all the comforts of modern service.

Chilled WeekendMy friend and I stayed here for a weekend, the room was small, however the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is good, lovely beach and few restaurants. Although we were slightly disturbed to see the door to a bar below our window there was no noise and we had a good couple of nights in there with live music!

30something hen weekend - 15 girlsExcellent value for money choice. 30 seconds from beach and wonderful views of Palma bay. Staff were ever so helpful and made us very welcome, booking and recommending restaurants for a large party. We had 5 triple rooms- 3 in a room is a bit snug but fine for 3 nights and worked out such good value.Would definately return!

Generally good, but...Overall the Portofino was a good hotel, striving to be stylish at affordable rates. The staff spoke English and were welcoming and helpful. The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. We had a balcony but no sea view and it would have been nice to have had a small table outside as well as the two chairs. The public areas are stylish and modern, and when the weather wasn't good we sat there with a coffee from the bar. We paid for bed & breakfast - more for convenience than anything else - but the breakfast was fairly perfunctory. We ate in the hotel's Italian themed Soave Restaurant only one evening and it was very disappointing. My grilled chicken was a plain chicken breast (which looked pan-fried rather than the chargrilled one I imagined). It hadn't been seasoned at all, was dry and hadn't been marinated or served with a sauce. It came with a handful of oven chips and what looked like a whole lettuce on a plate. Not really acceptable at 8.50E. My husband's hamburger was presented in a similar fashion, but within the actual meat part of the burger he came across a sizeable chunk of fat. It looked and smelled like unground ham fat. Taking 'hamburger' a bit too literally... We're not usually fussy eaters but that did put us off somewhat. And to be fair to the hotel they didn't charge us for the hamburger. There were a few other niggles - no soap in the bathroom for the entire stay, batteries missing in the room safe when we arrived - but overall we did enjoy our stay and would go back. Just give the restaurant a miss. There are plenty of other eateries in the surrounding area which are excellent, including the Fusion Cafe directly opposite the hotel and for a more upmarket meal both nearby Evoca and Wasabi Blue were outstanding. The Portofino has boutique hotel ambitions (not entirely realised yet) but at reasonable prices, especially for Palma.

4 nights in May 2009The hotel was well situated by the promenade and just 200m from very frequent bus stop to/from town. A taxi from the airport was quick and 15e with tip. Although we did not have breakfast included we ate 50m away on the promenade. There is a good supermarket just 250m. It is only about 2Km along promenade to town and there are plenty cafe/bars en route. This is a smaller hotel, quiet with excellent staff who all spoke English very well. We would highly recommend this place to our friends.

A great place to stayThe Hotel was itself was great. Well thought out, great decor, very modern and always clean. Our room was quite small, but again, well furnished, lovely bathroom and the beds were reasonably comfortable (ive certainly experienced a lot worse on holidays in the past). Towels and sheets were attended to every day if you wanted them to be. The room was air-conditioned, had a balcony, a small fridge, plenty of wardrobe space with a safe inside and a TV - although it was entirely Spanish, not that it bothered us. We only used the hotel restaurant once, but the food and wine was excellent and competitively priced. It seemed to be quite popular with people who were not guests too. All of the staff were very friendly, polite and helpful, calling taxi's and the bus companies etc if you needed help. Its worth noting that the hotel is a little farther away from Palma centre (Placa de Espana, cathedral etc) than you might expect, you certainly couldn't walk. This is compensated for by the excellent bus service running through the city though - the buses in Palma are nothing like they are in England i.e. they are regular, cheap, always on time, comfortable and not full of unsavory characters. You can get a bus card for only 10E that allows you to use the bus up to 20 times, making it a great way to get around. The hotel had a very nice atmosphere, which id say was part of its appeal. Full of young couples and professionals mostly. I didn't see a single child in the hotel, which i appreciated. I don't think the hotel really caters for kids, and the tranquility we all enjoyed would have been shattered if there had been kids running about. We never visited the beach, but it is literally about 50 yards from the hotel entrance. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at the portfino, and if we were ever going back to palma, i wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Hotels closer to town are a hell of a lot more expensive than this, and a lot of them didn't look

Great atmosphere, good value for money,so close to the beach!!The location of the hotel was perfect, not in the city centre but easy recheable by bus or by taxi at night(costs about 8eu to paseo marittimo)so close to the beach in a lovely area full of restaurants and bars,I would say is a great spot in summer. The rooms are nice, modern, great shower, plasma tv..the lobby has great decorations and the staff is very friendly,so helpful with directions. We got a great rate with laterooms.com and I would defenetely reccomend this hotel for whoever wants to be in a quieter area of palma close to the sea.We had a meal in the restaurant and that was nice too, very affordable.I would stay again!

Really excellent hotelWe were a small family group and found this hotel delightful. The room was spotlessly clean and very attractively furnished with light wood and bright colours, service very friendly and helpful, and location lovely - 2 minutes from sea-front in a very relaxed area, with lots of Spanish family groups in the bars. English language TV if you like to have that. We didn't eat in but the food looked and smelt good.

It's not a patch on the old PortofinoBig dissapointment. Miguel had gone, reception changed, painted a lurid blue outside- you cannot miss this hotel. Staff are professional, rooms been spruced up, decor revamped, all quite stylish. What a shame.....

The hotel is in a wonderful location close to the beach and the bus stop into Palma is close by with frequent buses in to the centre. Some great reastaurants and bars within easy walking distance and cafes along the beach for an early morning coffee. The area is definitely Spanish so don't expect any English breakfast!! But a lovely cafe selling cakes to take away is just up the road. The pool at the hotel looked great for when the weather is warmer and the poolside are could be a bit of a suntrap if you don't fancy the beautiful beach with azure sea.The public areas of the hotel are very modern and well kept and as previously mentioned the staff are all exceptionally efficient and friendly. My only negative would be the room size which was definitely on the small side but as you don't spend a great deal of time in the room it wouldn't put me off staying there again. Although next time I might ask for a superior room. Definitely good value for money and somewhere I would recommend to family and friends.

Blue - very effective in the all white setting (too many blues together wouldn't work!) Lovely pool and contemporary architecture. Room smallish - bit like on a boat! All facilities excellent and clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. Super bar/restaurant across street - night porter recommended and it was lovely - especially roof terrace/room. Not cheap price - but not a cheap hotel either! Didn't really test out the kitchen as only b&b'd this time. Very convenioient for airport then off to destination elsewhere, as we did, but nice little corner of Palma, too.
