The location of the hotel is very convenient. It's next door to the market place and across the street from a gorgeous beach. The rooms had a great view, but they were very bare-bone. No ammenities, you have to pay to use the phone in your room (even for local calls), and lots of little bugs. It's also close to a bus stop. Taking the bus to Freeport and then taking a cab to the airport is much cheaper than taking a cab the whole way. Our bus driver was nice enough to take us right to the airport! Stay here if money is an issue, but Our Lucaya Resort across the street was much nicer and right on the beach.

The best thing about the hotel is its location - right next to the Lucaya Marketplace. If you want to go to the beach you cross the street in front, enter the Sheraton, walk across the lobby and the pool area and there you are! (All beaches in Bahamas are public access.) Also, the staff is very helpful - I asked them about snorkeling outfits and they called them to help me make arrangements.Now the cons. The buildings and rooms are very old and it shows. They could do better for the price they charge. I paid about $80 plus taxes and then found out that the Sheraton, a much nicer hotel, had come out with a $60 rate! (Ordinarily the Sheraton charges about $130-$150) Bummer!! There is no dining facility at the hotel itself, although if you take a two minute walk you can find several options at the market. Some people had complained about the music that could be heard coming from the market but it didn't bother me at all.I would recommend this hotel but please check prices at the Sheraton before confirming.I have some pics at Flickr showing the hotel, its surroundings and some beaches that you might want to see: [...]

Excelent location if you want to stay in Lucaya, older hotel/rooms, big pool, hot tub ,only 15-20% occupied when we were there, nice staff...cheap and good value for the $

Location is what makes this hotel a diamond in the rough. It is literally within minutes of the marketplace, casino and beach and since the property is on a peninsula, it's practically a dream come true for anyone coming with a boat. The pool is huge for any property and is very well kept. Unfortunately, the room had less to be desired. The TV in the room did not have any sound, one of the beds in the room had a broken box spring, so the mattress was practically falling off when sat on and the bath tub was missing tiles. The property looks like it has been around for some time now and is definitely starting to show it's age. For the money, it's not a bad deal, but you're definitely not going to be impressing anyone by staying here. If you're on a budget, this place will do, but if money's really not an issue, I would recommend staying somewhere else.

Hotel is good value for the location - right in Lucaya and part of the marina. It was memorial day weekend and loud drunks were everywhere - boats, doat, hot-tub, etc.

My husband and I visited Freeport and loved the area. There were alot of tours and trips to take and it was peaceful there. The people were so nice. We met so many people that had been there before. The hotel was close to the casino, restaurants, beach, trips (everything)! The hotel was great for the money. It was on the water and really pretty!! I would stay there again.

Everything you need is within walking distance, the beach is just across the street and all the action is right beside you. The hotel is not fance but they clean your room every day and give you fresh towels. I have stayed other places but this location is my favorite. The staff is very friendly as well.

the only problem i had at check in was that there should be somewhere there at all times to help carry luggage up the stairs...it was awful pulling my luggage up the stairs..when i got to the room i was assigned to it was not cleaned the bed was not made i called the front desk and the desk clerk who was so wonderful sent someone up and upgrade my room for the error pertaining to the room 915 she is a wonderful person she called me twice once i settled in my new room to apologize again for what had happened pertaining to the room that was not in order..other than that i had a wonderful time ..i would go back again but i think the rates should be lower because the pictures that are shown does not look like the hotel that is offered ........................The view was very nice overlooking the bay area ..........and the eating areas and shopping was wonderful....

We booked this resort for 4 days and moved out after one night. At one time this might have been a nice hotel but time has passed it by.

The general condition of the hotel is tired with very few amenities, except the pool. The condition of the grounds, rooms and buildings is poor. The room we stayed in had a sink drain that consistently were backed up(I called hotel maintenance 2x about it). The lights in the bathroom were inoperative and had to be replaced by maintenance as well. The air conditioner in the room was covered in black mold by the air vent. The room was generally dirty and rough in its appearance. On several occasions the water pressure was near non-existent in the shower. Additionally; and perhaps the most disturbing the bathroom was overrun by tiny ants. At one point I used the bathroom in the middle of the night to find hundreds and hundreds of ants parading from the shower over the wall to the sink area. We requested to change rooms but were not moved. I don?t think it would have mattered since the entire condition of the hotel is poor. Spend the extra $$ and stay at the Westin or Sheraton. All within walking distance.

For the price of the rooms they were sub par. I understand that it's an island and but the hotel in in a prime location and they are not maintaing its quality for where it's located. They need to do a major renovation on this hotel to make it as nice as the other hotels in the area.

THe Port Lucaya Resort was exactly what we wanted -- within walking distance of shops, food, tours, beach, golf. The Resort itself is very comfortable, well worth the money, quiet, large rooms, beautiful location (again), the pool was perfect. I can't wait to go back!

I'm not sure if it was just our room, or they were all like that, but the bed was so hard, neither of us got much sleep. We awoke in the morning with backaches. The backaches lasted on through the day. I probably got a total of three hours sleep, if that. Otherwise, the staff was very friendly and accomodating. It was basically a motel that had some docks next to it. There was nothing fancy about it at all. When I read Resort, I expected something with class. Not happening here.

The Port Lycaya Resort is very comfortable.We went there to go diving, so it met our needs.It is nothing fancy,but as mentioned before,it is very comfortable,along with being clean,safe and good location.Easy access to dive shop, entertainment, shopping, beach, and restaurants. There are variety and types of places to eat at. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a very basic hotel, not many amenities, but it does have a very nice pool, but was closed for the first 2 days at are arrival.

Broken screen door to patio--worn and faded draperies-no shampoo etc in bath --TV remote did not work--had to go to front desk and request hair dryer--swimming pool was beautiful-deck lounges were without any kind of cushion--room walls needed holes filled and repainted--no comfortable sitting other then bed in room--no closet,only metal hanging rack-only one ice machine serving almost 200 rooms- no suitcase stands

The Port Lucaya Resort was nicely located to shops and dinning, although the area was occasionally noisy, cruise ships, spring break, etc.... The hotel it self was a clean and pleasant place to stay.
