Great location and stay. The only thing that annoyed us was the fact that the cleaners came in early in the morning when we were still in bed. Admittedly we did have a long lie in and they came in again later in the morning and then someone else came "to look at the smoke detector".

Really needs updating to improve the experienceThe hotel is due for an update. There are damp patches on the carpets in the corridor, and unsightly splashes on the floor, not a welcoming sight as you navigate to your room ! The bedroom furniture is dated, no doubt to maintain the old world effect, but is functional. The bathroom soap and shampoo dispensers are not working but the hotel posted a notice to this effect and provided bottles of shampoo and bath gel. However the room was clean enough and the bed was comfortable, but I was travelling alone, with company it might not have been acceptable.I was visting privately for a convention and I stayed here last year and chose the hotel because it was cheaper than a lot of others in Hagley Road, but I guess you get what you pay for. I knew what to expect but I was really only after a bed and bathroom facilities, so it didn't bother me too much, however I feel the hotel has gone down a little since last year, and that decline needs to be stopped.

Not impressedI was staying there with a friend because we were going out in Birmingham for the night, When we got to our room we found out that the bed had not been cleaned and there was drinks everywhere to be honest it looked like whoever was stayin in there before us had not long left there so i rang down to reception to complain and they said sorry and to go back to reception while they will sort us out another room so we were waiting in reception for ages and ages bearing in mind we wanted to go out then eventually they had sorted us out another room which when we got to this one again the bed had not been done and there was empty contact lense cases on the table with rubbish as well so i rang down to reception again to say that this room had also not been cleaned, Anyway third time lucky we finally got a clean room but i would not recommend this hotel to be fair !

Outdated! The Plough & Harrow is in desperate need of some investment. The rooms are tired and depressing. It does however offer great value as long as you get one of the cheap LateRooms rates. I only stay here because of its convenient location.

Right location, right priceShort bus ride / 15 minute walk to Broad Street nightlife and the botanical garden at a reasonable price, and the bed was comfortable. The decor was dated (dark pink wc suite, 70's vintage?), hallways need redecorating, and a bit of a hike through the maze of hallways and stairs to get to my room.

Good hotel for a one night stay, did the job that we needed it for. The only slightly annoying charge was the additional £1.50 for room service on top of the cost of the food and drink.

Very good valueThe rooms are getting a bit tired, but they are ok. Long walk to the rooms from reception. At the Laterooms rate is excellent value for money.

EnjoyableAs always, we enjoyed this hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and quiet considering the proximity to the main road. Free secure parking is a welcome bonus.

Pretty grottyNot bad for £34 a night I suppose, but the room was in serious need of a renovation

Cheap and comfortableFor less than £20 per head this is an excellent little hotel. Very close to Broad St, and a short bus ride/taxi to the city centre. 24 hour manned reception is good if you're planning to get back in the early hours.

Excellent location for Broad Street pubs and clubs. Bedrooms a bit tired and breakfast obscenely priced at £20 per person, do room only and it's excellent value for money.

A pleasant blast from the pastGood size room, and a pleasant, gracious ambience, if old-fashioned. Very convenient location, and at a good price when reserved through late rooms.

Great Hotel at a great Price!During this holiday, we drove all the way from Birmingham to Malta, and stayed in hotels all over France and Italy. This was definately the best value for money and the nicest!
