if you ever decide to stay at this place, book for the nicer part of the resort. unless you are in a room in the better part of the resort, you will end up in the old, gross section with way too many children. i was not impressed with the food. the food selection was very small and it seemed to just get rotated to a different meal the next day. the rooms were old with the yucky polyester floral bedspreads. the towels in the room were not fluffy and tattered around the edges...pool towels were nicer. i cannot say that i would give this place a 3/4 star rating. in my well-traveled opinion, it was more like a 2 1/2 star. maybe in the nicer area it would be better.

In recent years new management has changed hotel staff frequently, resulting in open confusion in procedures. The staff that was there in the Las Glorias era was more service oriented. Now much of the friendly service is "overtrained" - bothering you too often to ask how all is; ongoing remodeling, pool activities too loud, disturbing guests in rooms; very high pressure to buy Shell Vacations which are overpriced and overhyped. The biggest draw of Pelicanos was always the beautiful park: it is about to be built over by the owners and Shell Vacations - ruining the wonderful ambience permanently. New Year's Eve 2009 was a disaster: rude service , terrrible food: the old Fiestas will be greatly missed. The new chef is not up to standard and the all-inclusive dinners are sub-par. We still like it better at Pelicanos than elsewhere and the time share staff are wonderful. But in the food and service it has seen better years and the prices are rising faster than the quality.

For 2 mid-20 year olds this place was great! We went into it reading some mixed reviews but in the end it was about what we expected for a 3-4 star hotel. The food was just fine, breakfast is the best, but it did get old as it's pretty much the same every day. the pool area was great but the service was contingent upon tipping and make sure you stay in the GRAND section (section 2) as it is worth the extra money that you spend! the club side isn't oceanfront and doesn't have balconies and i didn't hear a single good thing about it...and armed guards at the doors of the club section is never a good sign! the beach is bad but you can swim and kayak in the ocean right by the hotel and it's very nice. the rooms are your standard hotel rooms but no screen doors on the balconies which allowed a lot of bugs to come in. the safe was nice to have although not secured to a permanent foundation and the water pressure wasn't great but the TV had great stations and english options and the air conditioner was a life saver. the grounds are well kept and there is daily pool side entertainmet. Sergio is a great time but i do wish the daily activites would have been switched up a little. The stores across the street from the hotel were godo for getting h2o and snacks for the room! While you're there, do the Canopy Tour and make sure you go to the taco stand across the street on the main road. it has a red canopy and wooden stools around it and their quesadillas and tacos are SO GOOD and they are cheap!

Everyone was helpful. We ask to move because we were having a hard time with the stairs and they moved us without any problems. The only thing that needs a little change is the food. Breakfast was fine, but lunch and dinner got boring after a couple of days.

The facility are very good is close to Downtown by bus only around 4 pesos (.50) dollar. The all inclusive has 2 section. One is grand which we found out is was the best, but it was too late. We want to check-in at the other Section the Grand. That will be a cost of 50 more per day/per person. To me too expensive. The Club Section where we stayed to me is was for the local. All the guests there were local. That is why the food quality for all-inclusive is very limited. In this Club section you cannot use the Gym and you cannot eat at the other section. When you pay for all-inclusive you don't want be limited. That what happened to us. For the price we paid for all inclusive; the food quality , presentation and variety were not the great. It you like to stay in the resort do not stay at the Club section, go to the Grand Section.

The only thing that I could see that was wrong with the trip is, we had booked 2 rooms (2 couples) and when we arrived they had us in a suite.. One of the rooms was great and the other was 2 super single beds that we had to push together.. They could not give us another room as the place was booked solid. This would have made our stay more enjoyable. Other than the room part of the trip, everything else was good. You are about a 5 min taxi from PV and all the boat booze cruises. The food was okay, I understand that they are cooking for all people and it was a buffet. I liked the fact that there were different sections to the hotel.. If you wanted to party with the Muscles or the big chested Spring Break Clan you could, or if you wanted to relax by the pool and have a few drinks you could.

My husband and I stayed here for our 7th Ann in the "Grand Section". The hotel was unable to 'do anything special'- such as a bottle in the room etc. (I was willing to pay). The sheets were not changed but once in the 5 days we were there. Good luck getting to the swim up bar- you may have to fight with children to get a seat. The adult pool was disgusting- it was obvious it had not been cleaned. The service at the buffets was wonderful (be ready to specify a LARGE glass of water if you want one or else you will get a juice glass size), very attentive HERE. However, any other staff being anywhere other than at a desk - forget it. There were no servers in the Adult Area, the bar was dismantled and left there or anywhere else. The food was less that good at the main buffet in the Grand Section. There was 'pasta' or at least I believe it was suppose have been pasta. I was disappointed not to see any Mexican cuisine- except for a small selection in the regular section. Beware of Guest Services- they are timeshare hawkers. Also ONE MUST reserve 24 hrs in advance a space any of the restraunts except for the buffets, even though they may only sit 10 tables over a night. Don't waste your money on the Grand room- the bar will only serve the stock alcohol UNLESS you specify. The use of the fitness room was not worth the extra money. THERE WAS NO MINI BAR- and ONLY 2 pint bottles of water. ANYMORE cost- despite being ALL INCLUSIVE GRAND. Yeah we got a great deal but was highly disappointed and would take a lot to get me back.

The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We went on two tours and completely enjoyed both of them. The whole vacation was a perfect getaway! Just what we needed!

We had our 1st family vacation @ the Plaza Pelicanos. We stayed in section 2. The staff was AWSOME from the concierge, to the gentleman who checked us in to the guy that helped us plan our tours. Every morning my 6 year old daughter was greated by name and with a nice smile from the staff. I did not care to much for the mix drinks they made at the bar, but since it was an all inclusive I tried them all until I did find one they did make good. The pool was awsome. I loved sitting there with my drink and listen to the ocean and watch the sunset. The food was goos in section 2, however I did not care for the resturaunt in section 1. The food was just OK and it was very noisey. I loved the activitivies and shows that were put on every night.I would definatley take my family there for another vacation! The people at this hotel made my stay very very enjoyable.

Overall, I really liked this hotel. It was beautiful, clean, the pool right on the ocean was amazing. Overall, the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was pretty good. It's buffet style, a lot of meat. It would be hard if you're vegetarian. They don't have much in the way of salads. Basically, lettuce, peas, carrots and cucumbers.I was on the grande side. I did get sick with a stomach bug when I got home though and that'sthe only place I ate or drank in PV. Also, I asked for a wake up call the day of departure and they didn't call. The rooms are nice and very cool with the AC and housekeeping is good.

The hotel is lovely. We booked a king bed and got 2 doubles, no balcony, with a partial ocean view. Meals were rather blah as seems to be the case with all inclusive but the shows every night were good. We were about 2 miles from downtown, just a short bus ride away. We spent a lot of time in town wandering around, it was very nice and clean and you felt safe without the need of an exagerated police precense. We accidentally found a casino at the Mall by the marina, it was interesting. One of the people we met said we should see the 'Liverpool' which is a large store at the mall so when we went to see that we came across the casino in the mall. This was our third visit to Puerta Vallarta, we like the town and the people who are always friendly and willing to help.

This hotel was rated 3/4 star. I struggle with giving it a 3 star. Limited access to facilities that should have been included(game room, dining areas,"special dinners")Club members are treated like second class citizens.Best meal was breakfast.nice pools, friendly staff. Free water sports were for one hour, then you have to pay.ect...

To begin with, the price was amazingly cheap for what the hotel offers. There were 4 pools, including an outdoor jacuzzi. There are lounge chairs with a beach view for sunbathing, beach beds and great food! We even received one hour free per day of kayaking and boogie boarding! I would recommend some bug repellent because there are mosquitoes, but that comes with the grassy terrains and moisture. I spent a week there and will definitely be going back next summer as well.

Plaza Pelicanos is a wonderful blend of the traditional and modern/ comfortable. The location is perfect, halfway between the airport and downtown's romantic, fantastic restaurants. The grounds are handsomely designed and the large park between the two sections of the hotel is an irreplaceable asset. The staff, especially the people who have been there for years, are warm, welcoming, efficient and devoted. Wireless internet and Smartvoice phone are affordable options allowing unlimited access to the US and Canada for those of us who must keep in touch with business and family while in Mexico. As at most Mexican oceanfront resorts, it is best to keep your distance from the timeshare salespersons, no matter what they offer you. A heart-breaker for those of us who have know its incomparable fiestas, fireworks, celebrations, weddings, and moonlit beauty for years, there are are plans to build a timeshare section completely covering this treasure of a park, which will immeasurably diminish the great appeal of this classic resort. To exchange a truly irreplaceable treasure for money is common but an irremediable loss. So sad that they could not have created a design that would have preserved that park which sets this resort apart from so many others.

There are two sections in this resort, section 1 is the cheaper deal. It has its own hotel area which is connected to section 2 hotel area (alot nicer). You have access to section 2 pools and restaraunts, so we spent most of our time there. Section 1 is just okay. The only time i felt that mabey i should have spent more money was because of the alcohol. Section 1 alcohol is the worst of the worst and will definately give you a hangover. i thought that maybe if we tipped the bartender extra they would give the section 2 alcohol. but no they were pretty strict. The food was good but I wasn't expecting fine dining. The hotel seems to have fewer single king rooms than double rooms. Me and my boyfriend had to stay in a double bed room. I would have perferred a king but it wasnt that big of a deal. The pool area has these beautiful beach side canopy beds in which we spent most of our time. There are only 5 so you have to be patient to get one. Overall i had one of the best most relaxing vacations of my life!! staff was nice.

Plaza Pelicanos offered 4 swimming areas. Two of the areas were very adult and family friendly, they had children's pool at one end that poured into the larger pool. The larger pools had swim-up bars with stools. You could also reach the bar from deck side. The third pool was fun area for younger college age, though we spent most of our time there and we are in our early 50's. This pool had lively rock music going and a pool activity director getting games and exercises going. This area also offered a swim-up bar and had a hamburger and fry grill area going all day. The fourth pool was strictly adult pool with a hot tub area. There were wonderful shows put on at night. We were there during college spring break. After the evening show the MC would announce that the resort would provide free transportation to and from one of the clubs if anyone wanted to go. A different disco or club was featured every night. I was impressed with this as the kids were going to go to the local clubs anyway and now they would have a dependable ride to and from. We would recommend this resort and are even thinking about staying at Plaza Pelicanos Grand Beach again next year.
