The Botanical Gardens were beautiful. Ride the bus down to the gardens because you can then visit the town of Boca and Mismaloya. The beaches on Boca and Mismaloya were increadible. The beach at Cost Sur is great. You can swin in the ocean with little current. The man-made reaf is increadible. I would recommend Gust dive shop. They taught me how to suba dive and we went in the lagoon next to the hotel. They were very perfessional. It was the best trip to Mexico I had. The service at the hotel needs to be more inviting. The maids were always cheerful and friendly, however the waiters would only wait on high tippers and it took a long time for them to wait on you.

A great place to call home for a week. I am told it is the first Timeshare in all of Puerto Vallarta. That alone commands respect. You can't find a better location or value on the whole coast, it is an older place. It is the first timeshare built in Vallarta. The Waitstaff is the best...they made us feel like family almost instantly, we bought a week on the secondary market for a steal. We can't wait to go back again (30 days and counting) and have referred several of our friends there and they all say the same thing.

Pros:A magnificent view of the Bay of Banderas and Sierra Madre mountains.Clean linens and towelsCons:The hotel is a two star resort by American standards. The room decor and amenities are dated from the 80's. The restaurant is outdoor and there is no indoor seating which means fighting bugs in order to enjoy your meal.Front Staff tries really hard to sell you into their time share.Be cautious with wait staff and double check bill.Hotel is a 15 minute drive from city center and there are no stores or restaurants within walking distance.

Room seemed spacious, but needs some updating! For example,a small TV was mounted on the wall in the living room, refrigerator was old and rusty, stove was gas and had to be lit with a match. The bed in the room was small for a king, more like a queen size. Bedroom wall next to bathroom was damp and specks of wall plaster found in't way to the bedroom floor. There was no TV in the bedroom. Shortly after unpacking,I had to call maintenance to replace flickering or lights that flitered off and on. I could not let the kitchen lights, microwave, and other appliances in the kitchen area to work. A circuit breaker had to be turned on. All electrical repairs were done quickly, but as a vacationer I expected everything to be in working order upon arrival. The bus stops right across from the resort so that transportation into the city is easy and convenient. The artist in the town have an evening called Art Walk which is delightful tours from one gallary to the next(about 20+)that you can talk with the artist or sculptor about their work. A great 3 hour experience for anyone who enjoys art.

Playa del Sol costa Sul was not at all what we expected. The premises was run down old and had an odor. We were completely shocked once we got to the room. It was not clean, funiture was very worn and the bathroom was not at all anywhere we wanted to get cleaned up.We did not sleep that night, the bed did not smell clean or fresh. Our last experiance in Mexico was in Cancun at the Me by Melia. A breathtakingly beautiful hotel with a room that just made you feel wonderful and the cleanliness was exceptional. We only stayed one night at Costa del Sol and worked out a deal to be moved. We ended up in a room, not a suite, no view right next to a construction site at the grand playa del Sol. We made do and enjoyed peuto Varllata but would never ever stay in this hotel again, quite disapointing.

Despite the hotel's tendency toward confusion over rooms (are you in a time share apartment? Will you need to move?), this is a sweet mid-range place. Decent food, good snorkeling, easy access to town. Clean and mostly attractive. We'd go again."

Our room wasn't ready when we got there. We had to wait a few hours. There was a big push to go to a meeting to sell something that seemed like a time-share, even though they said it wasn't. Because I made a mistake and went with a man carrying a sign for the hotel, I ended up paying $20 for a cab (refunded if you went to a 90 minute meeting I later found out) when I was prepared to pay a couple of dollars for the bus. After finding out about the meeting, even though I asked three times if there was a time-share thing involved, and was told no, I decided to forget the $20 and we didn't participate. They insisted on following us outside the hotel to get us to go, however. Very annoying. The room was nice, and the lagoon was a treat for my son who went scuba diving. The dining was OK but expensive, I thought, for the quality. I liked the internet access, but wish they had it in the rooms. Many guests abused the three computers that were available. I probably won't go again for a couple of reasons: I'd rather be nearer the city, and I don't like pushy sales schemes.

This hotel is in a great location in the Mismaloya Area and the rooms have great ocean views and great price per night. The pool area is small & cozy and the bar area is fun. They have two nice restaurants with plenty of choices. Each room has a small kitchenette and there is a small market on site. Hotel is a short cab drive to town & about 35 minutes from the airport. This property is older but well maintained and the staff is very nice. There is a tiny beach area & the pool chairs are limited but we enjoyed our stay because the view is spectacular.

This was a great hotel before it was taken over by the new owners. They have totally destroyed the wonderful feeling of ""family"" that it had when it was know as the Costa Vida Resort. The sales people are rude, ""in your face"" types who won't let you alone. They are out to just make money and not be a host to the guests. All they want is to bring people in and sell them a timeshare, no matter what. It is terribel what they have done.

"My wife and I have stayed at Costa Sur (Costa Vida) several times, and there are many reasons why we always go back. The rooms are wonderful, staff is great, great restauraunt and beautiful pool. I've travelled all around the world, and Costa Sur is by far my favorite hotel."

"the sales people are rude. the front desk is bad. the best is waitstaff, and the maids are wonderful.the new owners are stuffy."

"We were in awe of the beauty of the grounds, the view from our balcony and the location. The housekeeping and wait staffs were wonderful. The timeshare folks and concierge were rather curt. Nice, but a little annoying. We had a great stay and look forward to our week in September."
