Unfortunately, check-in set the tone for my stay at Cambria Pines Lodge. The young woman at reception was extremely rude, actually, she was downright nasty and hostel. I wondered what I did to offend her since she was anything but welcoming. To make matters worse, the room was on the second floor of the building and since there was no elevator, my bags had to be lugged up stairs. At reception, no help was offered with bags and since the hotel did not seem to be full, I wondered why I was assigned a second floor room. It had been a long day getting there and I was just too tired to complain so I dragged my bags up the north entrance staircase, since the south (and shorter flight of stairs) was completely blocked by a large group of people smoking on the landing and I didn't have the energy to deal with asking them to move. The room was clean but nothing fancy, the vanity area was poorly lit and way too small. On the bright side, the next morning's staff was the complete opposite of nasty-reception girl, and the breakfast served was a fantasatic array of morning yummies (as opposed to sweet roll and beverage) that included just about anything you could want. Would I stay there again? No. The reception ruined it all for me.

Everything but the actual room was wonderful. The room pictured was update, this wasn't. The staff was quite rude when we explained we thought we were paying for an updated room as pictured with a fireplace. Instead of an apology or trying to work with us, I got a lecture . Also, the price of the room dropped. We could have got a better room with dinner for the price!

Stayed in room 411. Negatives: Room smelled musty (or moldy); there were bugs in the bathroom. The bed was nothing special; the pillows were cheap.Could hear every step the people upstairs took and when they flushed the toilet. Positives: the patio was nice, the grounds beautiful and the restrauant was very nice (although pricey). The staff also answered our questions and was nice to deal with. The only way I would stay again is to pony up the extra $$ for a better room. Guess you get what you pay for!!

Nice place but crammed full of bus loads of geezers on way to Hearst Castle. Paper thin walls and doors. Can hear conversations on the balcony entry. Couldn't sleep beyond 6 when the bus riders screamed to each other about where to leave their luggage for pick up and who was having breakfast with whom. Shame that the management doesn't monitor the noise because it is a decent motel. Second time I have stayed here and it will be the last time.

Cambria Pines is situated on a hill looking down on the small town of Cambria. It was a very peaceful setting. Not much traffic in the area. Lots of rooms available that are spread out over a large area. Lots of privacy. Nice areas for walking. Very pristene. Rooms are very large with a fireplace and large TV in each of the bedroom and the den. Very good restaurant at the hotel. A buffet breakfast served each morning is included in price.

Staff was great and the grounds were beautiful. Romantic, beautiful, private, great food and great service and would recommend to friends and family.

My wife and I booked a king sized room with fireplace & forest view room with the dinner & breakfast included. Upon arrival the front desk clerk was unanimated and disinterested in doing anything but getting us out of his space. We had to ask for a map and directions to where the room was on the 5 acre complex. Once at our room we found that we were housed in one of three two story buildings on the east side of the complex. It appeared clean, quiet and adequate. The grounds (gardens) are beautiful and relaxing to walk in. Dinner at their restaurant was outstanding! My wife had a fillet ($29) and I had the NY steak($22). The package we booked (DInner Escape) included our entrees, a bottle of house wine (white zinfindel was very good). No appaiser or salad was included which was disappointing. The steaks were absolutely perfect and the salads were equally good. After dinner we retired to our room, lit our Duraflame log and relaxed- until the neighbors moved in above us. Memories of living in our first apartment 25 years ago flooded back as the thump! thump! thump! of footsteps were very annoying. Finally around 11pm there was quiet and we enjoyed the night until 6am when the neighbors awoke and began thumping above us. Then about 6:30 am the tour bus fired up and an army of tourists began yelling and milling about for the next half hour. IF you want to book here, PLEASE ask for a superior room and be sure it is single story, not part of the 3 lodges that are two stories. I would HIGHLY recommend the restaurant for dinner, not breakfast though. We hope this helps and educates other travelers.

This hotel/lodge is nestled in some very well maintained and interesting gardens. The less expensive rooms are nothing too special, but the larger ones are nice. The staff was very helpful, and when we had some noises in the morning, they moved us to a better room the next night while they investigated. The pool is well maintained and clean. The walk to Cambria down the path was interesting, but don't try it with a stroller (it is a stariway, not a path!) The Kitchen garden where they grow organic food for the restaurant was very nice to see. The complimentary breakfast was very good, plenty to eat, and not just rolls and coffee, a full buffet breakfast. A littel pricey, but a better deal than the beach front hotels/motels.

This hotel was a great value for the money. They had everything you could ask for in a hotel. Restaurant, breakfast was included, wonderful swimming pool, nice grounds and wonderful shower! We will definetely stay there again.

While the property and location are quite beautiful and close to shopping and dining, the walls are paper thin (we could clearly hear the gentleman above us snoring all night when he wasn't getting out of bed to use the bathroom) and the beds are extremely uncomfortable. My entire party awoke with aching backs!

They have the most beautiful garden area...Went for a wedding, great place for that. Great buffet breakfast, thank you. Used the pool and spa, nice and clean. Only complaint would be, nice volleyball court but no ball. We would have enjoyed that. Would stay again, for sure....

The Cambria Pines Lodge was very nice. The hotel gardens are fabulous and tranquil. My stay included breakfast on the patio by the gardens which I really enjoyed. I was pleased to find this hotel animal friendly. There are not a lot of places which allow pets and I liked that feature. There were a couple of things which slightly bothered me but not enough to ruin my stay. The bathroom light was really dim and I believe I was in one of the older rooms. The room did not have any stationery or notepads and there was a stain on the cement outside my door which I thought could have been removed. Overall, though, I would recommend this hotel. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere and gardens fabulous.

Unique lodge-like setting with nice gardens and lounge. Average rooms. Cute hotel tucked away in the pines. Lodge setting with stone fireplace and gardens.

The lodge looks nice until you get your room key to work. Our Suite was nice enough until we realized that to flush the toilet we had to remove the lid to the tank and pull the chain, once that was accomplised the supplied plunger was required to complete the flush. Then when it came time for a shower no luck as there was no shower curtain and the Lodge was holding a 100 cleaning deposit, we asked for these items to be rectified, but as of check-out time we were still unshowered and disappointed.

Pretty surroundings. The noisiest hotel I ever stayed at with the worst soundproofing and smallest TV ever. Surroundings were beautiful but inconvenient to walk to town center. very noisy. TV was about 13 inch screen. Took 3 changes to get one that worked marginally.

The gardens are gorgeous in the spring. Gardens were not well tended, staff was rude, room wasn't clean. We returned to the Cambria Pine Lodge in September because we had a pleasant experience when we stayed there in May. In the spring, they had beautiful, romantic gardens and the resort was peaceful and relaxing. However, the staff was rude and unhelpful. But we decided to return again in September because the gardens and the atmosphere of the grounds made up for the lack of hospitality from the staff. After our September stay, we will not ever return to the Cambria Pine Lodge. The staff was even ruder; the walls and ceiling (we had a downstairs room) were so thin we could hear every TV that was on around us. Our TV in the bedroom didn't have a matching remote; we had 2 remotes for the TV in the living area but no remote for the TV in the bedroom. We could hear every single step the people above us made-it even shook our furniture! When we arrived: there were dirty coffee cups at our front door (they were still there when we checked out the next day); the furniture was rearranged as if a party had just vacated our room; there was hair in the bathroom sink, shower and on the bathroom counter. I was very disappointed because this was such a lovely resort the last time we stayed here, with the exception of the staff. The next time we visit Cambria, we will try one of the many other quaint hotels, B&Bs or lodges that are more conveniently located in town.

Location, ambiance, gardens, staff, cottage. Front desk clerk discarded a fax rather than holding it for me. Great location, convenient and quite getaway for family or romantic break. Great price roomy, clean quiet and lovely cottage - not super luxurious but a wonderful homey comfortable stay.

Great location if driving down hwy1 and beautiful grounds and environment. I'm not sure if there was AC. Great location directly between San Francisco and LA along Highway 1 and 10 minutes from Hearst Castle. Free internet was a nice unexpected bonus in a wilderness setting (not wireless) very picturesque and the breakfast was great. Beautiful outdoor heated pool. The bathroom could use a little help it's a sort of industrial one with plastic walls and dim lighting.

"We were assigned room 501. We were told is was one of their ""rustic, original cabins"" It was old and shabby. Walls were paper-thin. We could hear the couple next door talking in normal voices."
