Phangan Great Bay Resort is a small hotel set in large grounds at Ban Tai Beach on the west coast of Koh Phangan in southern Thailand. Phangan Great Bay offers a choice of three room types in the hotel and a range of bungalows located behind the swimming pool. All the rooms and bungalows have air-con, hot water a balcony and cable TV.

The full moon, half moon and black moon parties on Koh Phangan are famous around the world. Phangan Great Bay is ideally located within fifteen minutes of the Full Moon Party and five minutes of the other events. Perfect positioning to allow easy participation but far enough away to allow peace and quiet at night.

The swimming pool at Phangan Great Bay is on the beach front with the hotel to its side. Guests can walk out of their balcony and into the pool within a few strides. The beach here is huge – stretching nearly eight kilometres through to the end of Ban Kai beach. Thongsala is just a few minutes in the opposite direction where there are bars and many restaurants.

Ban Tai is central on the Phangan road system allowing easy and swift transportation to other beaches and places of interest on the island. The beach at Ban Tai stretches 8 km to the Haad Rin peninsula and can be walked its entirety at low tide. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in this region too.

My first time was in their old resort in the northern part of the island. The owners are the most friendly and loving people who arrange anything you want. Their new resort look stunning but in high season will cost you. It's absolutely worth it but for backpackers it's maybe a bit overpriced. After 5 years returning to this resort when passing through on my journey through Asia i can really say this the place to be when you go to the south and don't like all that tourism on Koh Samui but relax backpack mood of Phangan. The beach is beautiful. The sea is in high season around 29 degrees Celsius. It shallow around knee depth with low tide. Great bay is one of the first 3 resorts that started on the island together with smile and another (lost the name). They accepted the hippies in the 60's when the first full moon parties were held. They are famous about their cooking skills. Anything you want to eat. Don't forget to ask for a typical thai desert. Sugared cooked rice with fresh mango. Enjoy
