I spent quite a bit of time searching travel websites for a reasonably priced and comfortable place to stay in Copacabana. I decided to stay at the Pestana because it got good reviews, the pool looked amazing, and it seemed safe (a friend had recently stayed at a hotel with a slightly lower price point in Copacabana and reported that someone had gone through his bags looking for money after he stored his luggage at the hotel). In order to keep the price somewhat reasonable I chose the lowest priced room available at Pestana. When I arrived, I was delighted to find that that Pestana lobby was light-filled, air-conditioned, and decorated in something of a boutique hotel style. The staff were outstandingly warm and helpful throughout. Additionally, without my even asking, they upgraded me to a room with a gorgeous partial view of the beach for the entire 5 nights that I was there (!). The pool was even better than I'd hoped, and the guys who work on the beach were well-organized and helped make the brief periods of beach time I had available really easy and relaxing. The only minor downside was that I thought the floor of my room could have been cleaner and I wish they'd replace the slightly dingy throw rugs in the room. The linens were spotless though and the bed very comfortable, which was what was most important to me. Would definitely recommend this place!

We stayed in this hotel for a week in July. I believe it is supposed to be a 5-star quality hotel, and the public areas are certainly very nice. The rooms, however, are a little "worn", certainly not the quality you would expect for the price paid. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the roof-top pool area is very nice. The beach is across the street and the hotel provides sun chairs, towels, and a staff person at its beach "tent." There are lots of restaurants in the area, and on Sundays the street was closed to traffic and we enjoyed walking the length of the beach with all the locals and other tourists.

Hotel was in great location and had nice beach facilities. Housekeeping was a little slow in cleaning the rooms, and had to be reminded several times that they needed to clean the room. Hotel was nice, but not on par with higher end international chain hotels
