I stayed in the hotel for 5 nights, the location is A+, you are 100 yards from Madison Square Garden/Penn Station and 200 yards from Empire State. The service when we arrived was very good, the room we stayed in was located on the 9:th floor and was ok, if we had any question at all to either the front desk or the concierge, they were answered with a smile. The guy at the considered desk (same last name as Ray..)was very helpful. If you´re in town and are looking for good hotel, try this one out, you will not be disappointed. I will return.

that hotel was awful and horrible.. i really hate it.. I wish you wouldn't go there... when we arrived at the hotel after half an hour of queue for the check-in our room (for 3people)was very small and dark and floor and ceiling were wet.. the furniture was very old and dirty the bath was as small as the room and not very cleaned... the experience here is to get it over.. however the big apple is gorgeous and unforgettable.. i love it..

I'd definitely stay here again. Yes the rooms are old fashioned and not the usual sparkly modern decor people these days are used to but I was happy because the location was excellent and rooms were cleaned every day, what more do you want! Don't let the bad reviews put you off the hotel is fine - you are in New York enjoy the experience and stop complaining about the rooms there is nothing wrong with them, your only in it to sleep the rest of the time you are out exploring the city!

Perfect location, accesible to all major subway lines, walking distance from Times Square (10 blocks). The hotel is old, but the bathrooms instalations have all been renovated. I have no complaints about this hotel. Oh and they take dogs at no extra charge.

Location and we checked in at 1pm. Check in was slow and it is dated. Great location for Penn Station and the Times Square area.

The location was great with subway around the corner. Plenty of food nearby. When we arrived at the hotel on a Sunday, the traffic was quite busy and we double parked to quickly unload and let my husband go and park the car in a garage a few blocks away. We had 4 suitcases, coolers, laptop bags, and makeup case on the sidewalk in front of hotel. There were 3 bellmen standing outside of the door with luggage carts lined up against the wall. The bellhops offered no assistance so when we try to get a luggage cart to load our stuff on it, the bellhops all start yelling, NO NO you cannot use that??? What are you talking about we are checking into this hotel???? Oh, we have to do it then...needless to say I gave that one no tip. He takes our luggage in and deposits it on the floor, well you cannot leave it, as the lobby was quite busy and check in line was very long. Had to wait for my husband to get back to watch the luggage so I could check us in, which took over an hour (waiting in line). Room was small, but clean. The staff is not friendly at all, our son left his room key in the room and they would not let him back up to get (as you have to show key to get on elevator). He went to the desk to get a new key and they told him he had to have his parents get him a new key, he is a teenager and had a drivers license, but they still refused. He had to call us to come back.

The only good aspect of this Hotel would be the location. Most of the staff were rude. Items were stolen from our room due to the door not closing properly. Room was very out-dated. Bathroom was awful. No electrical outlets in bathroom. Tub stained. Toilet stained. Paint peeling off the walls. Room did not feel clean at all. Nasty! Matresses were very cheap and uncomfortable. Check-in process was lengthy. Long lines. Would not recommend this Hotel to anyone.

We were there for one night to hang out in NYC w/ friends. When we were checking in around 8pm, there were only 2 people working at the counter and there was a long line for to check in. Especially, on a Sat night I presumed there would be more people working. When we finally got our room, we couldn't find our room b/c it was hidden away in this another hall way that wasn't even marked. Our room felt like we were in a motel and not a hotel room. one section of the ceiling was leaking and the bathroom's shower head was leaking as well. Paid over $200 for one night stay in NYC wasn't worth it at all. Reserve with your own risk. Overall I give 4 out of 10.

Location good for some things. Generally clean enough. Took me an hour to check in.

It is not the kind of hotel i would usually chose I prefer a smaller one with a good restaurant but at the price you cant complain - the only hassle was arriving on a Saturday afternoon, it took longer to queue for check in than the flight from Buffalo.

First off, the line to check in was an hour and a half long. You have to watch your bags the entire time. When we had to use the bathroom, we had to get a card pass, then take the elevator down into the basement. Once you got down there it was an old run down basement (scary and looked like something out of the shining) Many toilets didn't work and the place looked like it was falling apart. Then what we paid, I thought, was sort of reasonable given Valentine's Day weekend and a long weekend to boot (President's Day 2009)but also paid $40 for parking. Walking throught the hallways to get to the room, i saw that the illuminated signs that had the room numbers on them had front plates falling off and on the floor. The place just looked like it had had it. Sure enough when i opened the door to my room, it worse than i expected. The room was tiny, barely enough room for the one bed that it had. There was a flat panel t.v. with no remote. The walls were filthy and the paint was peeling. THe deadbolt had been smashed off and i had to call a locksmith (who didn't fix it just showed me how to lock it by turning handle on door upwards). He also said that the room i had was one of the best rooms in the hotel on the best floor of the whole hotel.. The toilet leaked, the bathroom was tiny as was the shower...This was the most run down place i have EVER been. Wanted to leave the second i got there. Location isn't everything....Diner downstairs? scrambled eggs and bacon with coffee...$23.00. RIPOFF!! What a dump...stay away!!!

Location to the Amtrak station is excellent. That was the main reason in choosing this hotel. Room was smaller than expected. Room space was not adequate for the price.

I waited 35 minutes to check in and 20 minutes to check out. The lines weren't long; just slow. The location was very good and the staff was friendly. The place is a bit run-down but you can't beat the price anywhere.

The room was dirty, dusty. The paint in the bathroom over the showers was peeling away. The porcline in the tub was chipped away. The towels were hard and roughburned out light bulbs.

Expensive but excellent location near madison square gardens and times square. Huge hotel with adequate but basic rooms for the price paid.

I've stayed here many times. Each time the room changed either from small to more than big enough. But that was a corner room. There were times I wouldn't take off my shoes because the rug was filthy. The last time wasn't too bad. The room was clean. Bathroom wasn't all that bad. I usually only sleep a few hours and go out again. You can't beat the location. The desk personnel have been both courteous, and standofish. The guy is the worse.

My three-night visit earlier this month was a disaster in nearly every respect: (1) It took me nearly 45 minutes to get to the front of the check-in queue, and I saw far longer lines than I'd faced during the rest of my stay; (2) the hotel insisted that it had not received payment confirmation from my employer and that we had to put the stay on my own credit card (though it turned out that the problem was with the hotel's computer system); (3) the place is uncomfortably dingy and dirty; (4) the restaurant off the lobby served what may well have been the worst & most expensive corned beef sandwich I've ever paid for (and has a shockingly poor list of beer choices); (5) you can't check your bags at the bell desk and must instead (a) wait in the front desk queue and secure a claim ticket and then (b) take your luggage to the basement to check it; and (6) like a scene out of some horrible futuristic movie, there are video monitors everywhere (including the elevators) with CNN broadcasts blaring the latest turn in the endless Democratic primaries. On the upside, I did find the staff nice and helpful (when I finally got to the front of the queue); the AV and convention folks did a good job in connection with our dingy but perfectly passable meeting rooms; and it's nice to see so many European guests, who presumably stay there because it is across the street from Penn Station.

The Hotel Pennsylvania was located directly across from Penn Station - when we walked out of the train station, we literally walked across the street to check-in! Warning: the check-in process took about 30 minutes, even at an off-peak time. The rest of the hotel doesn't measure up to the location; the rooms are tiny, the beds short, lumpy, and uncomfortable, and the entire experience feels like a cheap European hostel. It does NOT promote a good night's sleep, and I'm not a picky traveler. The location can't be beat, although in hindsight I'd pay $30 more to stay at the Comfort Inn or another motel.

Location. Long check in line all the time. Every time I passed through the lobby there was a line to check in. I stood in line for over 45 minutes when I checked in. Besides that everything was up to par.
