How did this hotel ever receive 4 stars? My a/c didn't work, the phone didn't work-it is a real test to even find the room. The mattresses are incredibly bad. I can't imagine sleeping on one for several nights.

The room was wonderfully spacious, light and quiet. The food at breakfast was generally excellent except for no muesli and weak coffee. The absence of BBC Radio 4 from the available tv and radio progammes was a disappointment. Service generally good except that Reception Desk was often unmanned/unwomanned.

We were allowed to check in early (11am) after an overnight flight. We updated to a newly renovated room and it was well worth the extra cost of 25 pounds. The room was immaculate and the beds were very comfortable.

The Room was fine but the breakfast was the worst hotel breakfast I have ever had. There was no bacon, beans, bread etc even though breakfast didn't finish for another 30 minutes. The juice being poured in was cheap concentrate. The sausages were barely cooked. I have stayed here before and expected a lot more.

I would only stay in this hotel again because of the location. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious but cold. The remote control of television not working. Was not briefed about fuse electric button so did not have light for an hour.Buffet breakfast was hot but dry. No fresh fruit but tinned ones.

| Overall disappointing for a 4 star hotel. There were no quiet areas where one could sit and have a drink and read a newspaper, and no communal newspapers which I would have expected.
There was no front door porter to help with the luggage
Overall it was a cold place( atmosphere wise ) and we would not stay there again. Better value would be the chain hotels which are just around the corner and half to two thirds the price.
The room itself was really a single room with little space but the dcor was very nice indeed |

The hotel was beautiful and the staff very helpful although a there were one or two who could have been more cheerful - isn't it always the way! The room was huge and luxurious although a few small touches would have improved it, such as a valance sheet and a clean shower curtain. The restuarant food was wonderful and the only comment here is that the full wine menu was not available although it was a Saturday night. Overall it was lovely stay with lovely food and lovely people in a nice atmosphere. I would recommend it again and indeed would stay here again.

A nice hotel but as any UK hotel it is loosing a lot in the details. Great location. I was expecting something more for the price.

We like the quirkiness of this hotel (a conversion of a Victoria insurance company HQ) - some rooms have original tiled walls with ceilings over 20' high, while others are modest attic rooms. On this occasion we were fortunate in getting a lovely grand room with two double beds & two armchairs for watching tv (albeit with car park view). It feels a bit pot-luck as to the kind of room you'll get and, while some are simply splendid, if you don't like taking risks, there may be safer 4 star choices in Manchester. It is, however, very conveniently located for the city centre & Manchester University.

Very Good doesn't seem an adequate way of describing the service at this lovely hotel, the staff were helpful, welcoming, efficient and friendly making my stay a really positive experience. An impressive building in an imprseesive location - fabulous! I'd definitely go there again and have already recommended it to my friends, family and colleagues. Just one problem - I could have done with Sat Nav to find my way around - maybe that's just me!!

great hotel but finding your room was really hard due to the complex layout, ask for a room close to reception, not on last floor.

This was in a great location and had everything we needed, including a late closing bar. The ONLY negative was that service for tea and toast at breakfast was very slow but it was Bank Holiday and very busy so this couldn't really be helped.

Hotel building, stunning.Reception and public areas good.Bedroom OK, i stayed in a deluxe and to me it was not that 'deluxe' however good value for money on a Bank Holiday weekend.Room was very hot though even though the weather wasn't that good, there was air con but very outdated and not much good. I would stay again but look round at other hotels first.

Second visit and what a contrast. On my previous visit in 2006 I had a room that looked recently refurbished and had a modern feel. This wasn't the case this time round. This room was hidden away off a few corridors (in a non-smoking area that strangely reeked of stale cigaratte smoke) and was the complete opposite - in need of decoration, dated furniture and generally a let down. Would stay again, but considering both rooms are the same price, I know what my first request will be if I do.

As I walked into the reception i was somewhat blown away, it is amazing!! and yes i did have to take pictures of it to show my friends! Reception staff were quick and helpful checking me in, and a porter showed me to my room all the while letting me know that should i require and help finding somewhere to eat, drink etc then they'd be glad to help. The room was lovely, very tall ceilings and windows to match, although no artwork on the walls. All very clean and shower was also decent! My only quarm was the price of room service, 10 per person per tray for breakfast in bed (even tho brekkie was incl of price) and 17 for a pizza and garlic bread that was cold. Also, remember to put your Do Not Disturb sign up as the maids like to come in at 8am as we found out! Was an easy walk from Manc Piccadily station which I was nervous about as my first time travelling here from London.Other than that we had an amazing stay and would certainly reccomend the place.

Really good stay, ideally located, excellent service, excellent food, rooms clean and very comfortable but more of an old victorian (wooden panelled, dark wood) style than the modern/contempory style pictured online.
