Description:
Luxury combined with the charm and history of a magnificent Grade II listed building. Staying at De Vere Oulton Hall is a unique experience Mainly dating from 1850, great care has been taken to retain the Hall's original character by furnishing it in the neo-classical style. This is complemented by the Halls 19th-century formal gardens which have been faithfully restored to their original design. In addition, the beauty and splendour of the Yorkshire Dales is close by. A relaxing stroll, before or after an excellent meal is highly recommended. For golfers, a special agreement with the adjacent Municipal Golf Course allows hotel guests the opportunity to take advantage of preferential tee times.

is it really 5*?Arrived late'ish so just wanted to grab a quick sandwich and beer - sandwich took 30-mins to arrive but managed to beat my bottle of beer by about 3-mins. Slow, slow, slow service when bar didnt really look that busy. Also mold forming around toilet handle, shower and uncleaned sink. Tea and coffee making facilities in room but no milk.I got a good deal, paid £59 for a 5* but really felt like i was paying the right price just the star rating was wrong.Oh and charged an extra £2.50 for using a credit card - thats the first time I've come across that at a 5-star hotel!!

wow... value for money ooooh yeswe stayed here for my girlfriends birthday as a surprise to her, the grounds are wonderful, the room was good size and had everything u needed, staff helpful, friendly, only downside was our room was above a function room, we went away for a cosy night and relaxing time, which all was good until we went to bed around 10pm and could not sleep a wink, all we could here was boom boom boom boom, directly below us was a function room we were laid awake until 1am, i even had to ring down to reception it was so annoying. we were up the next morning really early for a full days shopping and it hit us hard with been away until passed 1am, otherwise i dont mean to put people off, this was a lovely place, we paid £75 just for the room, and what a bargain that was.... 5 star with gorgeous pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym, all free to use, we didnt try the restaurant, thought ti was abit on the pricy side, although we found a nice pub a few miles away which was nice.

Bargain accomodation but not quite 5 starBooked from Late rooms at a rate that was less than the nearby 3 star Holiday Inn. A vastly superior experience. Excellent common areas as you would expect in a converted hall. main restaurant greatly over priced (£40 for a steak) and hence largely empty during my stay but the Golf Club Claret Jug restaurant more sensibly priced and offeing good food. Service friendly but not quite up to 5 star standards. Bedrom common areas and the bedrooms themslves a little tired and could be cleaner. All the potential for a five star hotel but lack of attention to updating an cleaning really downgrades the ccomodation to 4 star. That said for the price unbeatable value.

Value for Money ??? Premium for LocationPrior to departing to the hotel I had read that lateroom customers had been allocated inferior room locations. I therefore immediately checked the view from my window and was pleased to see rubbish bins, bottle bins etc.. loveley. An immediate move was requested, but the staff were very surprised!!!! Breakfast, having stayed in quite a few hotels of various star status I have been lucky enough to have had many good breakfasts, this was not poor, just average. And the seat allocation on arrival is based on the premise of first to arrive gets the darkest tabled area, not as I would have expected: first to arrive gets the pick of the better seating.I would not tell people not to stay at this hotel, but at the same time I would not recommend the hotel.

Excellent recommendationStaff were helpful and friendly and even put our case of champagne in the hotel kitchen refrigerator to keep cold for a party later. We overslept and did not manage to vacate the room until after the check out time which marvellously the hotel did not even bother to mention to us. We had afternoon tea and stayed in the drawing room for two hours without any comment from the staff. The facitilites were fabulous, we were allowed to use the spa facilities all day on the day we checked out. The setting was utterly beautiful.

An beautiful hotel in super grounds giving a spacious feeling on arrival. Public areas plentiful and well maintained. Rooms a good size with nice fittings. Staff very pleasant.

we have stayed at this hotel before and thought it was fantastic however there were a few small faults this time but possibly because we had such high expectations.they were only small things suchas there had been a christning theday before and the coffe pots were still left sat outside the day after, the milk tasting "off" at breakfast and their not having a record of our booking(good thing we had our late rooms printout)..would still go back to this hotel as the staff and overall standard is excellent..

Spring BreakWe enjoyed the lovely ambience of Oulton Hall, with its swish reception rooms and furniture, the lovely gardens and walks around the acres of golf course, and the pool. My youngster was disappointed that under 16's aren't allowed in the Jacuzzi. Breakfast was plentiful with excellent service, the front desk was also very helpful when our late rooms booking hadn't come through, even at the end of our stay. Great value with late room rate. Close to Leeds and York, yet with countryside atmosphere.

check outThe only negatives were that the queue to check out of the hotel on Sunday morning stretched right along the hall and was very slow moving also we had to ask twice for extra toast at breakfast after one small rack was brought for a table of 10. On a positive note the staff were generally very attentive and the hotel is beautiful & well maintained as well as very clean. The hotel was great value through late rooms but poor value at full price.

Superb luxury for amazing priceAn excellent hotel. It is clear on arrival that this is a luxury 5 star hotel. The room was a little basic but extremely comfortable. The grounds were lovely, the service impressive and the food was gorgeous. Excellent considering the price we paid with laterooms.

Could do better!!Unfortunately we were very disappointed with our stay at Oulton Hall. Whilst there was no major problem requiring discussion with reception, the outcome was that we were generally disatisfied and will not be returning. Issues included no remote for TV, no iron, stained sheets, cracked bath, stains on wallpaper in bedroom and meagre supplies on hospitality tray.Perhaps this is the room reserved for Late Rooms customers as our room overlooked the rubbish bins that were bashed and thumped at various stages during the night - A previous review also commented on this.Unfortunately bar staff were far from welcoming prompting our move into the dining room. Our evening meal would best be described as minimalist cuisine. We were rushed from one course seemlessly into the next. Fortunately breakfast was a much improved experience and staff serving us were extremely good.Pool and spa were superb.DeVere do need to work harder and not be complacent regarding their rating at this hotel.

A grand hotel winter break...I and my wife stayed at Oulton Hall on their Winter Break package in mid-March 2008. Having requested a room with a walk in shower due to my wife's limited mobility, on arival we were assigned a room with a shower over the bath - however we were then upgraded to a complimentary deluxe room when I pointed out our request. The hotel is very impressive and well furnished, service was very good although no porterage was offered. Busy with day-conferences mid-week but still some quiet areas to relax. Drinks and snacks quite expensive as is a la carte menu. Leisure facilities (pool, gym, sauna and spa) very good.

Visit 6/7/8 March 2009I had requested a twin room (2 ladies travelling together) and was given a double. After visiting reception this was sorted out. I would say there is little information in the rooms regarding the hotel itself, no maps or opening times for any of the facilities and whether you need money for lockers etc. Housekeeping staff who looked after us were excellent. My only complaint was a young lady in the leisure facility snack bar who would rather talk to a friend than serve me!

Short breakHave stayed before and felt it had lost some of its qualities that made it stand out from a normal 4* hotel such as Slaley Hall. Still very good value.

Weekend stay, couple + teenage childOverall an excellent value weekend break but marred by not having the third bed made up on arrival. However, the night manager and his team worked hard to get things straight and provided complimentary drinks by way of apology. The room was very clean and decor appeared recently refurbished. Aircon an absolute necessity or the room would have got too hot.Buffet breakfast was excellent with a wide choice and hot full english.Low cost Laterooms booking made for a real bargain.

Not what should be expected of a 5* hotel, particularly with regards the arrogance shown by some (reception) staff! To be told upon check-in that there were no places left for dinner is totally unacceptable from this sort of establishment - There are many, many superior places to this hotel even within the Leeds area!
