Once upon a Tyne is well signposted from all major routes. Once you are in South Shields follow the A194 dual carriageway into the centre of South Shields over a series of roundabouts. The dual carriageway ends at the roundabout with The Lord Clyde public house on the left. Turn right here and continue along to the end of the road at the T-junction controlled by traffic lights. At these lights you will see the Town Hall in front of you. Keep in the left lane on approach. Turn left at the traffic lights and move into the right lane where you can head through the next set of lights veering to the right. The Town Hall will be on your right. This is Beach Road. Go straight over the next roundabout and Once upon a Tyne is on the left hand side at number 55.

A great little guest house. Staff very friendly and dont hassle you - just leave you to come and go as you want and you just let them know when you want anything. Rooms are clean and checked each day. Breakfast is all self service and a great range - I ate loads! Good location and at £25 per person a really good bargain.

I have stayed in worse hotels for more money !, As i was only up in sunderland for a leaving doo the accomadation was fine, there was a bed and the room and sheets were clean and for £25 I cannot argue, the staff were friendly and explain everything i needed to know.

Friendly owners, good location short walk fom South Marine Park, fairground and beaches. Greeted on arrival and made to feel welcome. We booked the family room on the ground floor. It's not luxury, but a comfortable room whith what we needed. Quiet night's sleep (apart from 'Big Ben' on South Shields Town Hall), well stocked continentai breakfast in room next door. If you book, make sure you're happy to leave the door open while you use the shower, as there's a sensitive fire alarm which goes off if the room steams up. Secure car parking at the back.

This was perfectly fine for a quick overnight stay, fairly basic but suited us just fine.

The accomodation was very basic. On arrival i was shown to my room, and then left for the duration of my stay. I never had the dining room shown to me, or an explanation of the facilities. I was given a key for the secure car park at the rear of the building, yet on my return on the first night i found there was no room for my car. The room was cold, as there was no heating, and extremely noisey, with the road and the town hall bell ringing all night. The continental breakfast was adequate, But on my first morning, there was no bread left. and no one about to ask for any. The only time i saw anyone was when they were washing up the pots. My receipt was pushed under my door with no thanks, or if i'd experienced any problems. All in all, my stay was uncomfortale and unfriendly.

I am 50 years old and from the car park to my room was three flights of long staircases. At no time was I offered something on the ground floor. I relise that may of been more cost, but I was not given the chance. Nice hotel but not for me.
