The seeting is lovely and the room was large and clean. The bathroom has been recently updated and was fully tiled and the shower was excellent. It is obvioulsy a very larget and old hotel and the communal stairway an corridors do let the hotel down as they are tired and scruffy.

The Hotel is beautiful and perfectly positioned for easy access to the town and Betty's Tea Rooms! There is plenty of parking which is very useful. We will definately be visiting again. We had a fantastic break.

Great weekend breakThe old swan was a great hotel in an ideal location. The shops were only a 2minute walk. Really enjoyed our stay!

Very Dubios because of the price, couldn't fault anything. Excellent location for the bridal trade show. Even given an upgrade. Have recommended to colleagues, and will book again for September

Room 140 - next to the boiler roomAlthough we have stayed at this hotel many times, this room was disappointing due to it being situated by the boiler room (which was very noisey and made it very difficult to sleep) and it overlooked a brick wall - not up to the expected room standard.When we informed the reception lady she made a note to report to the manager. It was only when we requested a price reduction that a £20 refund was offerered.

Nice place for a short stay.The old swan is a great place for a day or two. Very clean with a nice bar and facilities. Quite expensive to stay in the bar so would recommend other pubs just down the road for a drink.

Weekend Break at The Old Swan-ambition fullfilled!Having stayed in lower key accommodation in Harrogate on 2 or 3 occassions many years ago whilst attending exhibitions in the town, had promised my wife a weekend at The Old Swan ever since seeing it offered as a prize on the old game show, Family Fortunes!!Hotel is well located on the edge of town, easy to find just off Ripon Road(A61) and with plenty of car parking-albeit the majority being at the rear of the hotel some 80 yards up the lane. Parking is tricky in Harrogate and we observed at least one "outsider" park in the grounds and walk off into town!Check in quick and easy-giving the name was sufficient. Was given a suite on the first floor having booked an executive room. Bedroom (and bed!) a tad on the small side, but the additional lounfe area more than compensated. Furnishings/Decor a little old fashioned (but isn't it supposed to be God dammit!!?) Bathroom had huge tub with very efficient shower over. TV's rather old, limited channel choice, no fridge. Rooms locked with a conventional key which had to be turned when exiting the room-bit of a security risk, these days?Bar was generally (not always) quite, bit lacking in atmosphere. Table service from the Barman first class. Was frightened out of my skin momentarilly on Saturday evening when a woman ran in screaming that someone was dead-but this was quickly established to be part of a play acting scenario which stiil frequently take place at the Old Swan!Only food partaken off was breakfast ( Harrogate heaves with restaurants!) which was excellent-if a little pricey at an additional £15 per person per day. Hot food cooked to order-plenty of efficient staff.All in all an excellent stay in a character setting-yes £130 ish per night is a little high for a hotel with a certain lack of facilities, but in our view the character/ambience is sufficient compensation!!

Old Swan Hotel 26/06/09Check in was very slow, only one member of staff with a big que, when someone else came to help she was a trainee and had to have things checked. The lift didn't work when we arrived, lucky we are able bodied as there are a lot of stairs.

Central but overpricedWe booked very late for our weekend and the Old Swan was about all that was left. We opted for the slightly more expensive Executive room, which when we arrived was not executive by any means. posibly a bigger headboard and a larger bathroom (which had a leak from the sink), but disappointed that it was regarded as superior and £30 more. It was also located down a maze a small thin corridors which had us worried before we even arrived in the room. Overnight the room was uncomfortably hot, even with the window open and the radiators turned off where we could.In the morning we decided to have breakfast at the hotel, even though it was priced at almost £15 each, thinking it would be very high quality for the price. What we got was a buffet that we could have had anywhere else for half the price. Overall very dissappointed and we will not stay again in any MacDonald Hotel.

The Old Swan in the sunshine !Central hotel with plenty of parking spaces. Easy walking distance to the town, shops attractions etc. Pleasant sittting out area on terrace by bar and on the lawn in front of the hotel. Helpful staff.Bathroom rather small, but functional !Third floor quite hot, even with radiators turned off an windows open.Overall good, and would stay again.

Business overnight stayLovely hotel, very comfortable, clean and accommodating. Only downside was when I arrived. Parking was not as ample as the website had stated. I had arrived quite late around 10pm and found no parking spaces were available outside the hotel. I had looked up a back lane towards the back of the hotel where it was sign posted hotel overflow carpark which was unlit, very narrow and not safe at all. I rang hotel reception and was advised to park at the back in that area which I refused. Having discussed my refusal reasons with the gentleman on reception who came out to my car, he kindly let me part outside reception on the double yellow lines. Getting back to the room, a lovely touch was the folder explaining the history of the hotel and surrounding town. Would stay again.

Wedding GuestGood hotel with bags of character and an excellent location. Room small but adquate. Well presented but dusty in places. Staff friendly and efficient but perhaps not enough of them.
