The Ocean Surf is situated along 74th street right next to the ocean. This area is a haven of historical architecture and art as well as quaint, eclectic eateries and shops. Although it’s just a few miles from the bustling excitement of South Beach, the North Beach area provides a more calming and relaxing scene to indulge in the finer points of Miami Beach, making it perfect for family vacations, romantic getaways and business travel. The Ocean Surf is a beachfront hotel, located directly across from the Atlantic Ocean on North Beach’s Ocean Terrace. This area is a two-block long historic oceanfront thoroughfare, located one block east of Collins Avenue (A1A), which provides the guests access to the hotel. The sand is approximately 100 feet from the front step. South Beach and the historic Art Deco District are located approximately 5 miles south of the location. The approximate driving time is 7 - 10 minutes. In 1997, the hotel was entirely restored, preserving all of its romance and charm, while adding new amenities and conveniences to make your stay even more enjoyable. Genuine hospitality and personal service are a matter of tradition at the Ocean Surf. The hotel and guest rooms have been consistently inspected and approved by "AAA" and the Mobil Travel Guide since 1997 to meet their high standards for quality and cleanliness. We are located one street from most of the Miami-Dade Transit bus routes on Miami Beach. Bus fare is $1. 25. Taxis are readily available. Several bus shuttles are available for the major shopping malls. And, should you want to explore on your own, the Front Desk representatives will be more than happy to arrange rental cars for you upon your arrival. We are located approximately 16 miles / 20 minutes from Miami International Airport. just an overnighter, you get what you pay for. Cheap hotel equals cheap beds furniture and no parking. Nice quiet area was about all that was good about this place.

Quadruple room rented was too small to accomodate 4 people. Very little space to walk between beds. Maybe it is a good idea to indicate sq ft or sq mt available in the room in case of triple or quadruple rooms quoted.

TV - ask for a remote from the front desk. Dont expect the stations to come in too clearly. Continental breakfast - dont expect much beyond coffee and a simple pastry. Location - across from the beach is beautiful. Neighborhood not great at night. Clean enough but a cockroach was spotted and the cleaning smell clearly covered up something. Slight renovations might be nice. Overall good buy for the money.

Not close to entertainment areas. Rooms need better view. Customer service was always available. But you always have to request service that you want.

It was such a bad experience that I immediately left the hotel and found a new hotel. When I arrived the original location of the hotel had been shut down and it had been moved a few blocks up. The new location's building was decaying and filthy. The porch was filled with garbage and feral cats. The lobby was also in need of a good cleaning and the staff was very unfriendly and not at all helpful. The elevator has not been replaced in about 50 years and seems to be quite unsafe so I had to climb 2 sets of stairs with my luggage to get to my room. When The hallways were dark, damp, and scattered with garbage and empty bottles. I opened my room and it smelled terrible and the bed sheets were dirty. The furniture was in bad condition and the chair was threadbare. The bathroom mirror was cracked and the bathtub was also dirty. My experience at this hotel was horrifying and I urge anyone thinking of staying here to spend a few extra dollars and stay somewhere else.

This place is so run down, they definately need to update the hotel. The only good thing about the hotel was the fact that it was beachfront and the fact that we were so close to South Beach. Other than that...it was nothing to smile about. There were stray cats everywhere, and a few bums on the street side, and I swear I saw a rat in the back alley that they called a ""view""!

Never book with orbitz. they had to call the hotel to switch reservation names. orbitz never got in touch with the hotel and the hotel charged us again. the hotel did not seem too helpful with that situation. never stay here. we got charged twice but i guess i will just charge it to the game...a learning experience. And I do travel alot but not with orbitz anymore. also best advise is to book with airline directly if flying.

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel and I liked very much. The receptionist is attentive, the room is good , and the building's architecture is so beautiful .Sorry for my English . I'm still learning how to speak English.

Gives you the charm of staying in a old building. But nothing great about the rooms. Good location though - beach is right across the street. Paid parking during the day (metered), free during the night. Might not recommend for summer stay because the air cooling equipment is not very good.

We booked this hotel in 2005.The ocean is a 2 mins walk from the hotel.The rooms are decent size and good for their price.The bar in the hotel next door is good for an evening drink.Its close to a lot of eating places and we really enjoyed our stay here. We are a couple who enjoy the vacation more than a hotel so this was a safe, clean and close to the beach hotel for us.

ocean surf hotel was very uncomfortable during my short stay, the room was very dirty, the bed was full of hair from a previous guest .. were not changed!!! also i couldnt take a shower because the bathroom was also very poor cleaned. the location was relatively good with parking available.

We were very pleased with the Ocean Surf Hotel. The room was clean and has the old style art deco charm. The hotel appears to have been recently painted,and has new carpet.The bath fixtures have also been updated. The location is great and easy to find. The room was a great value for the price.We definately plan on staying there again.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel two years ago. The location on the ocean is great, and I love the neighborhood of latino restaurants. Staff is friendly. However, the hotel badly needs updating. Our mattresses were really old, topped by a worn chenille bedspread. A little paint and some new linens would go a long way to making the room seem less oppressive.

The price of the Ocean Surf Hotel is attractive. For your money, you get a clean and comfortable room. The front desk is very good. I was able to check in early, which was a plus. I had to change rooms 3 times in order to get a working safe. Make sure you check that everything works before unpacking. The front porch is fantastic. I spent a lot of time out there people watching and talking to other guests. The neighborhood is working class with plenty of restaurants, grocery, convenience stores, bank, and library near by. The beach is right across the street, with lifeguards and showers. I was comfortable walking around alone. The building is an old, lovely art deco. The foyer is really nice. They are renovating some rooms, and the carpeting is old. I got used to the strong disinfectant smell after 24 hours. I would stay here again. Good value for my money.

It was just okay for the money. It's far from south beach but since we rented a car it wasn't a problem for us. The hotel doesn't have parking lot so you need to wake up early and feed the meters. Cleanliness was ok the first day but they did't do anything after that, we only stayed 2 nights. If you plan to use the hotel to sleep and change clothes it is ok for the money.

Realy this is a gueshouse iderthan a hotel but is very familiar is in very good location. My wife and me enjoyed very much.
