Where to begin? The resort has no beach front. You need to walk a little ways to get to the actual beach. The food was not good and the staff was very UN-accommodating! There were extra charges for things and silly rules. For example: they offer a free shuttle into town BUT you are only allowed to take it every OTHER day. At certain times of day there is even a fee to take the free shuttle. Ridiculous. The room and parts of the grounds smelled of sewer. It was the most un-relaxing vacation I have ever had to Mexico.

Arrived to find out that I had been moved to a "sister hotel I was one of the lucky ones for an upgrade" Upon arrival I did not receive the ocean view room I booked, no orientation to the hotel. The all inclusive did not include an insuite bar or all meals at the hotel. 2 restaurants at the hotel had only a few options for inclusive meals the res trequired out of pocket cash. The door on the mini refrig feel off the hindge on the first night. The smell was musty and awful. AWFUL PLACE TO VISIT OR STAY, DON't DO IT.

My wife and I just returned from a seven day all inclusive stay at Ocean Maya, Rivera Maya. We are very seasoned "beach people" and do not believe we are very demanding or hard to please but we do feel strongly about misleading people about resorts and their shortcomings. On the plus side: Ocean Maya is a located in beautifully maintained grounds. The staff is very friendly and do all that they can to make your vacation enjoyable. The facilities are clean and the layout is well planned with eveything within easy walking distance. The pools are fantastic, neat and clean with plenty of sun chairs on both decks. The swim up bar is very popular but the drinks are very "watered down" and some of the bartenders are clueless as to what drinks other than beer and margaritas are all about. The food is barely adequate and the best is not found at the "speciality restaurants. The buffet in the main hotel is very limited in variety and is almost the same, day after day. The snack restaurant by the pool is horrible. How anyone can screw up hotdogs and burgers is beyond us. The beef has a terrible taste, the fries are bad and the condiments look to be about three days old. The speciality restaurants are poorly organized, we waited over 20 minutes to be seated because the evening meals and staff were not ready; don't waste you time in these places, just stay with the main buffetk morning noon and eveniing. Their is no beach, only a seawall. Beaches N and S are dirty with mud bottoms and poor visibility.....go elsewhere !

The resort was just fine, the air conditioner was leaking when checked in but they worked on it right away and it started to leak again during the night and they were there in the morning and fixed it and upraded our mini bar with soda and beer, the staff was very helpful, and don't forget your booking a 2.5 star resort it was well worth the money I'd stay again

Ocean Maya was a great place for my daughter and me to stay - two women traveling alone. All-inclusive made the trip even easier, since we didn't have to leave to find restaurants. I am on a strict gluten-free diet, and the guest services director took excellent care of me - emailed the chefs with my needs. At each restaurant, I met with the chef before dining, and every meal I had was delicious and safe for me to eat. The pool was beautiful and clean and not crowded. The beach was small and bordered by sand bags along one side, but the lounge chairs and umbrellas were great. The dive shop on site booked a cavern dive for me, and the cave certified dive master was very friendly, spoke English, and was extremely cautious with the two of us in the dive group. If you are a diver, the cenote dives are fantastic. Prices for snorkeling and dive trips were comparable to other places I've been, including Hawaii and Belize. The room was spacious, air conditioned, very clean, and serviced daily. We had a wonderful trip, and I would definitely stay at Ocean Maya again.

My husband and I chose this hotel for our honeymoon - no one even wished up 'Congratulations' at the desk and there seemed to be alot of confusion. I kept asking at the check in 'Room on the waater...ci?" and the fellow helping me kept repeating (I think he only knew these words) 'Yes maam water view ci". We got checked in and found the decorating really nice and laid back. The warmth and the open great room in the main hotel were pretty impressive. Our room was so-so - nothing to scream home about but our water view ended up being "view of the back of the snack bar - thus greasy smells - and you could see a peep of water if you contorted your body past the lanai (outdoor patio). We were supposed to recieve a room upgrade, wine, a basket of fruit for our honeymoon (and we did show our marriage license at check-in) but nothing happened. The one thing I can say is that you can walk on the beach, lay on a chair on the beach and other just relaxing things and lots of tropical birds, crabs, etc.. Try their timeshare - in Cancun it is gorgeous and the hotel will leave your tongue laying on the floor and not a hard sell either!!

Even after Hurricane Dean had just hit, we kept our scheduled vacation plan and it was by far one of the best trips I've ever taken. The hotel was clean and ready for their visitors. The staff was very courteous & helpful. Our room was ready for us when we got there, it was overall a very memorable experience. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who's planning a vacation to PDC. I can't wait for my next vacation here!

The resort is secure, beautiful and kept very clean. The beach is nasty and I love to swim in the ocean. Even if you manage to get past 3 feet of broken shells the water is murky and dirty. I walked 1/4 mile each way on the beach and in some areas it was even worse. They are doing construcion next door and that beach actually has black junk washing in. The pool is spotless except there are only about 8 chairs that have shade. You had to stay on the beach for the shade and walk to the pool for a swim. The food was not acceptable. The breakfast was good but the lunch & dinner appeared to be recycled dishes from the prior day. There were about 40 kids under the age of 10. After they all made their own sundaes you couldn't go near the desert table. If you're a beer drinker - forget about it. The only beer they serve is Corona on tap in a 6 oz plastic glass that you're lucky if it's cold. All the name brand liquors are an additional charge. The "specialty" restaurants were a disaster. They have no AC (neither does the main dining room). My chicken dish in the Mexican restaurant was sent back because it was full of grizzle. We didn't stay around for desert because it took over an hour to get the main dish and we were sweating from the humidity. The Japanese restaurant was a set menu of 2 items each to choose from and none of them were to our liking. If you want good food and a beautiful beach - this resort is not for you.

The beach was muddy--I have never seen Carribean water that look like Galveston TX :( For that reason I would not go back to this strip of the Maya Riviera. I'm waiting for the new H10 property at Puerto Moreles just up the road.

"Hotel room had standard, not Queen, beds. Didn't care for the restaurants, The beach was of poor quality - stones and sharp rocks. We had room maintenance problems, a leaky shower, a flood in the room. Noisy, neighbors on last night. Staff was friendly and helpful, hard-working. Our trip to Chichen Itza was great. Nice pool, good weather."
