Lovely stay, exactly what we needed (clean, friendly hotel on the cheaper side). Room was small but cozy. Friendly staff who mostly spoke English, although we speak some Japanese. Location was good--not too far from Ueno Station. I would recommended taking the extra couple hundred yen to go to Inaricho on the Ginza line if you don't have too much luggage, it's about a 2-3 minute walk from the hotel. Would stay here again.

The Oak Hotel was very friendly and quaint. It was in a nice quiet cultural area that was not expensive but still reasonably close to transport. A very good cheap place to stay. Don't expect huge rooms though.

This hotel is basic but clean and functional. Rooms are small but o.k if just staying a few nights. Good free internet access and helpful staff. No restaurant but many local options. Only 10 minutes walk from Ueno train station but get directions as it is easily missed. Located in an interesting area of Tokyo with good transport links to other areas.

Very nice hotel close to Ueno station. You don't have to take taxi from Ueno Stn.. we did! Small rooms with good standard and very good service and with good skills in english. We will come back!

Excellent, fair priced base for your travels around Tokyo. Close to railway station, lots of bars/eateries to suit all tastes within a short walk. Staff friendly and knowledgable.

The best kept secret in Tokyo! The staff were helpful and friendly. Internet facilities were free. Its a short walk to Ueno Station which gives you so many choices. Rooms are small but when on holidays who wants to stay in a room?

The staff are friendly and speak English. All the essentials are there, bed, bathroom, shower, toilet, internet, air conditioning and TV. No fridge in the rooms though. The hotel also provides a lot of information about Tokyo and the local area. 15 mins walk from Ueno JR station, which is on the Yamanote line, so simple access to the main stops in Tokyo. For the price, it's a pretty good deal.

The semi-double bed is (too) small for two adults. Also, one should take the metro (1 stop) from Ueno to the hotel if he/she carries heavy luggage, instead of making the long walk.

Excellent service by friendly counter staff conversant in English and at least 1 foreign language we couldn't have asked for more. TINY bed and room! I had a double room for 2 people and although we're average height and build, we found it really constricting, the toilet is so small we had to walk in sideways. Although there is free wired internet service in rooms, the hotel can consider offering wireless internet or a splitter cable for more than 1 person to use at the same time. 10 mins BRISK walk from JR Ueno Station. 30 mins slow walk with heavy roller luggage in the rain. Despite the cons I might stay there in future but this time bring smaller lighter luggage, and request for the room at the end of the walkway - those are more spacious. Ueno is an ideal suburb so convenient to the airport! There are cafes all over you will never starve. For shopping, go through JR Station and take the Hirokoji exit.

Oak hotel is the best for it's price in Tokyo. The location is fantastic, close to JR, subway and easy access to Narita airport. Free internet is awesome. House keeping service is great, the room is really clean but a bit small, however it's understandable coz it's in Tokyo. We enjoyed our stay with Oak Hotel.

The room is pretty tiny and basic but it is clean and easy to get to, and easy to get around from. The staff were friendly and there is lots of information, maps etc available. I would happily stay again!

This hotel is not bad.. but room was little cold.. so if you go in winter season, you woukld need extra blanket.

Friendly hotel, excellent value for Tokyo. Staff were welcoming, rooms were spotless and cleaned daily... only possible complaint is that the "semi-double" rooms really do have a small double bed and if you're two gaijin (non-japanese) you might struggle to get a comfortable night's sleep!

I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the place was most of the time. However, I would like to suggest that signs be posted to ask guests to keep their voices down when they are in the hallways. With travelers' busy itineraries and jet lag, a guest could try to catch a power nap at any time of the day. Also, the desk staff should also know how to work the computers. I asked several staffers to show me how to use Skype on Windows (at home I have a Mac) because all the instructions were in Japanese, which I do not read. No one could help me. I would like to thank the staff who helped me with detailed explanations and maps on how to get places. Also, I would like to thank the desk manager who carried a heavy bag for me out to the curb on my last day. The cleaning staff was fast , friendly and efficient to. Thank you to everyone.
