Situated a short walk into the city centre along the banks of the river or an even shorter walk along the main road.Room was nice but a bit dusty in parts.Tea and coffee making facility was good and the shortbread was a nice touch. The bed was firm and comfortable, however,The bathroom smelled of sewage each time a tap was run and it would have been nice if the towels had been changed daily. The room was also very warm.Breakfast was an ordeal. The first morning they ran out of plates for the hot food and also dishes for the cereal. All the ketchup bottles were empty. The second morning breakfast took longer as there were no glasses for the juice and again, they ran out of plates, dishes, pastries, croissants and butter. The bar was expensive, £3 for 2 glasses of lemonade but the bar area was lovely and spacious.£5 per night on top of the bill for car parking was a bit of a surprise.

Great city breakThe Novotel in York is a great place to stay if you are looking for comfortable accommodation, a good breakfast and a nice clean room. We stayed for 3 nights, but really wished we had stayed longer. We will definitely return to this hotel again next year with our two children. The staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel was very child friendly. The swimming pool is great and a good size, but I would say that they should look at putting in more changing rooms as two did not seem enough.

A good time was had by allOn arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a happy smiley face behind the recption. The employee was excelent and held a conversation with all the family and not just myself, this made the children feel very welcome. The X box and Wii in the reception area was a great idea. Our room was adequate for our stay, the breakfast and evening meal were excellent and well received by all. The Hotel is literally 5 mins walk form the Castle and Clifford tower and only a few minutes more to the shops. Will definietly be coming back later in the year.

THE BEST HOLIDAY WE EVER HADWe went away for our Silver wedding anniversary. The hotel made me feel so special. We stay in York 25 years ago on our honeymoon and all we could afford was a cheap £8 a night B&B. It was worth waiting 25 years for comfort we saved all year for this and it was worth it. The hotel was beautiful and booking on laterooms.com was a godsend

Fantastic hotel and great place to stay... We searched the web for a decent hotel where we could relax and enjoy our 2-night stay...We have stayed in a Novotel before in France and had quite a nice time, so thought we'd give this one a try. And we are sooooo glad we did!The staff are very friendly and helpful, the hotel is very clean and modern. The rooms are comfortable and has just about everything you need.We found that the rooms were supposed to be £169.00 per night, we got it much cheaper than that on LateRooms... Although, given the experience we had, we probably would pay that much to stay there again!!The hotel isn't too far from the centre either, about 10 minutes walk if you walk as slow as me!! According to my fella I dawdle!! But an average 10 minutes down the street and across the bridge and you're there.Wetherspoons is just around the corner if you fancy a cheap drink...There are plenty of places to eat.... There's a nice Italian place called Bertolli's just as you get into the city centre... also a nice Chinese place called Red Chilli, the other side of the centre. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel because it was £12 each so we decided to have a walk into the centre via the Wall and went to a place called the Greenhouse (near Subway) where we had a nice breakfast at a reasonable price. All the decent bars are on the riverside.... Don't go to the goth bar 'cos it's a rip-off!! £5.40 for a Cosmopolitan cocktail!!!??Revolution is the best bar/club we went to... if you like dance/RnB then this is the place to go! Although it takes a while to get served when its busy!!I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone... and would definately go back to York again!

Stayed for 1 night - Great hotel, reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Hotel is in a perfect location for the City and York Racecourse. Would definitely stay again if we found a cheaper rate - too expensive for a very average room.

The hotel was really nice. The room was not to the same standard as the rest of the hotel but was very clean. The staff were really friendly and always smiling. We only paid 65.00 for a family room so this was good valuefor money. I would stay at this hotel again.

Hotel was great. The first receptionist we met was outstanding and the overall quality of the service throughout the stay was excellent. Room was big enough for two adults and two little ones. Pool was good for the kids. Reception staff were really helpful when recommending where to eat, best attractions etc. Breakfast was good value too. Wouldn’t hesitate in staying again.

a one-day trip to YorkThe hotel is away from the city and yet close enough for a short walk to town. It is quiet and the service is very good. We made good use of the internet service it provides and we were very happy about it.

Excellent Location for peace and quietTry as hard as i could, i was unable to come up with any real complaints. The only problem was that when i booked the hotel i used a Maestro Card, when i went to book in the receptionist said that i had to pay the bill up front as they could not put things onto a bill using a Maestro card, which was a bit embarassing for myself, my partner and probably other people in the reception area waiting to book in. So i think in light of this people should be warned prior to booking that a Maestro card is not acceptable to pay at the end of the stay at this hotel, and if it is a company policy, it will apply to all Novotel hotels.

Clean, modern and brightWe stayed in a newly renovated room on the 2nd floor. Although the work was still going on, on the 2nd floor the noise did not affect us as we arrived after 1800 and left by 0730, but I should imagine if you were staying a few days the noise would be a nuisance. However the room was great, very modern with a huge bed, duvet, flat screen tv, hairdryer, pull out bed for kids (if you have them). The bathroom had no bath but a fantastic shower. A separate door led to the toilet, wardrobe, tea/coffee making facilities and a mini fridge. The hotel serves a very good buffet breakfast which includes everything you would want to set you up for the day. An added benefit is the hotel's swimming pool, great for the children. Very close to a pub - Mason's Arms which serves excellent home cooked food and a Witherspoons. The centre of York is about a 10 min walk so very convenient. Parking on site @ a cost of £5 for your entire stay. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a short break in the beautiful City of York.

Although the hotel was undergoing refurbishment, I had a refurbished romm and the quality was excellent. The staff were very helpful and efficient. I would certainly use again and recommend to colleagues. I was fortunate to get a discounted room so satisfied with the price - I would not have liked to have had to pay more.

Two Days in YorkA good middle range hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast menu. The rooms were adequate and cetainly well maintained. Ideal for a couple of days or if \"on business\". Well situated for the City and good parking facilities at a reasonable price. We would certainly stay there again if visiting York.
