Was pleasantly surprised by novotel central - rooms were spacious, clean and modern. The staff were helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. There was a bit of noise at night - but to be expected from it's location.

Fresh, Clean and Friendly but Nothing AmazingThe location of this hotel is brilliant for nights out on Broad Street, and is good for the shops and train station (about a 10 miute walk). The staff were friendly and efficient at check in. The only other dealings we had with staff was to ask for an ice bucket which they promptly sorted. The hotel reception area was clean and tidy, as were the corridors. When we were leaving on the saturday morning the door frames/corridor walls were being painted which was no real inconvenience but the smell may have been irritating to a sensitive sense of smell. I wonder if a Saturday (i would have thought this to perhaps be one of the busiest times of the week) was the best time to organise such maintenance work?! Also, we were told we could take advantage of the express check out on sunday which meant we could just drop our keys in a box rather than queue, however we couldnt locate the box anywhere around the reception area. Again, nothing really major but something i imagine some people might find quite frustrating! The beds were comfy, the floors were hoovered, the bathroom was clean, the tv worked, the decor was modern "fresh and clean"....it's just what you need in a hotel for a quick weekend getaway. The reason i say it was nothing amazing is because i would expect just a little "edge" from a 4* hotel. I regularly visit birmingham and have stayed in a variety of hotels -some 4* and some 2*!! Interestingly the two star hotel i've stayed in is run but the same group (accor) but a for quarter of the price. Granted the rooms are a little more worn, but they follow the same type of design and layout, and have equally comfortable beds, friendly staff, etc! The other 4*hotel i've stayed in (literally a stones throw away) was miles better than this one in that it offered much newer rooms and free internet in every room as standard, as well as free movie and music channels....all at a much cheaper rate. The lack of those little extras,

Novotel Birmingham experienceCan't complain, clean, city centre location, easy to find. I personally found the charging for parking provision a little unfair and would suggest that the tariff is updated. No issues with paying £13 over 6 hours (overnight - it is city centre location after all), BUT when you drop in to freshen up, only to fo out again and be charges £4.50, then another £13 overnight, that does not stack up. It would be better if repeated parking was incremental.

Overnight stay following a concertThis hotel is extremely well situated for the NIA, we attended a concert there and wanted to stay over. The hotel is situated on Broad street, a very lively street full of pubs and clubs. Fortunately we know the area however this still did not prepare us for the level of noise and the time at which it all quietened down (about 3am). The room was very hot so we had to have the windows open. The room was very 'tired' looking as were the carpets on the stairwell. Despite that, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. This would no doubt be a great place to stay if you were out to party.

A very clean and tidy hotel with a high standard for a city centre, would definitely recommend.

Customer service on recepetion was very good. The hotel was a little dusty in part e.g. to the right of the reception underneath a display. The room had several cigarette burns (sofa, bath, mattress) but was fairly clean. The price was good for city centre. The food service was poor, as was the quality of food at breakfast.

Used this hotel over years since refurb. My room is getting a little tired and needs attention. Explicitly: Toilet had a bad smell. Bathroom fittings worked but not properly. Bed was hard & pillows awful. Some soft furnishings damaged and stained. All just wear & tear and / or poor maintainence. Staff unfailingly pleasent & efficent. Car park charges are high. Hotel is near best Indain resturant in UK (Blue Mango) and very convenient for central birmingham, shops, cinema etc. If staying more than 1 night would have asked for another room.

I was happy with my room overall, it was comfortable and the TV service was very good. You can do things like order room service, breakfast from the TV. It's a modern system with an LCD TV. My bathroom had been renovated so it was clean and modern, but not all rooms have been. There is a special offer where you pay £9.99 for 24hours internet and access to all movies but I would have liked a cheaper option for just internet for a few hours. The downside of the room is that the carpet was stained and the toilet was separate from the bathroom and it looks like it hasn't changed since the 70s, and smelt like a hospital. The corridors also smelt old, I think the carpets need changing. But overall I was happy and will stay there again. The receptionist at the front service desk was excellent, but there are less knowledgable staff too, though all are friendly. The restaurant has pretty good food overall, breakfast has a range of choices, if you're by yourself you can eat at the bar or sit in front on some small flat screen TVs. I had to wait more than half an hour once for my food but generally the service was adequate. There is a hot tub/jacuzzi, sauna and fitness room which is very good, free to all guests, which was one of the reasons I chose this place.

The hotel was perfect. Lovely clean room, friendly staff, lovely breakfast, easy parking, easy walking distance from the shops etc. The only thing to be aware of is that on a saturday night there is a lot of nightlife very close by.....therefore lots of traffic and late night revellers.

Staff at front desk extremely unhelpful and dimissive, quite rude. My bed was very soft and the room was very basic with lino in bathroom & separate toilet. The bath release for the water broke and no one could fix this. The best thing about the room was the big LCD TV. If you just want somehwere to crash for the night in the city and are not worried about decor, uncomfortable beds or rude staff, then this place is a bargain.

Close enough to Birmingham City Centre to be able to walk in comfortably. I was on a special offer for B&B and it was excellent value. Clean and comfortable room. Pleasant staff on reception and in breakfast room
