The lobby area is very nice, and very misleading. The room itself, with two twin beds, was barely large enough to get around both sides of the bed. Paint was flaking off of the walls, and the room. The wake-up call system, programmed through the TV, did not work. The manager at the front desk agreed to provide an old-fashioned call, but that did not happen either.(luckily we remembered to use a cell phone alarm) Combined with no air-conditioning on an unseasonably warm August day and the cost this hotel experience was one of worst we have ever had in all of our years of travel.

Decent value for money. Rooms furnishings are a bit outdated and in general a little worn. Rooms overlooking the canal are the way to go at this property. Hotel is located in a great, central location near the Mint tower and flower market. Staff was excellent.

If you stay here, you must "upgrade" to a suite to have any space to move around in, especially with luggage. Old hotel with great breakfast every morning, and great location in the city near transit. For the same price, I should have booked with an American hotel chain.

Only one small problem, corridors are noisy and doors a bit thin, whichcan be annoying if you stayed up all night long... Except that, very nice hotel, very well located, and nice hosting...

The breafast is not included and the one you can get there is quite expensive but does not worth it that much. The problem is that you can not find a decent breakfast out so you have the settle for this one. But the hotel and the location is so good that you accept it O.K.

we loved this hotel and would definitely select it again. within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to visit. near the lively areas but very quiet after dark so sleeping WAS an option! staff friendly and nice, coffey cafe was great and rooms were clean and nice. we had a canal view room with a window which opened over it. room was OK for size conpared to other Europe hotels I've stayed in. will request this room again if we can get it!!!! we had only good experiences with the hotel and city.

Old, somewhat dingy, some rooms tiny, NO AC hot as hell in summer. If you can afford it, you're much better off at newer 4 star hotel

Hotel is in an ideal location, nice rooms, friendly staff, i would definitely stay at the hotel again, my only advice ask for a canal facing room, or have a room on the 4th floor. Below this level can be noisy, caused be delivery trucks mainly!

Reservation has been made for an anniversary, no upgrade, no special amenities in the room, not even a small flower. The room is extremely small and dirty, the building is antique and nice from outside, but the forniture in the room is very OLD and poor. Upon check out the rate was incorrect and we were not asked by anyone of the staff if was everything ok with our stay. We have choosen a chain Hotel sure to recieve a minumun standard that normally is given by chain Hotels. The NH is definitely an experience not to repeat!

Great location to see the charming city from, rooms can be small and only fans and windows for air flow, but my room was great with a canal view and stayed cool, friendly desk, would stay at the Dolene again without hesitation

The Hotel is pretty good, central and the rate is a great deal for an "in-center" hotel. Amsterdam is not too big, so you're walking distance from everywhere. They don't include breakfast in the price which is usualy charged at a very high price in Holland. But you are equipped with a boiler and a few complimentary tea bags and coffee which are good enough for the first morning step. You can eat something out of the hotel eventually. Personnel is kind and nice. Luggages, in case your room is not ready yet, or in case you must check-out before you actually leave the town, are stored right behind the counter and can be seen by everybody and they don't ever double check with the name on tag. Ok, nobody would ever ask for anybody's else luggage but... you know. Bed was comfortable and maybe the best was the bathroom, very spacious and really nice and clean.

Overall as expected. Plus for location. Minus for not announcing that breakfast isn't included in the price.

Room was very small but did have a balcony. Balcony was shared and we needed to have the doors open at night as there were no opening windows. Elegant hotel in very central location. no restaraunt for the evening though and no bar. however there were facilities next door.

i expected the rooms to be much larger and more luxurious for a 4* hotel. for the type of accommodation it was too expensive.
