Great location on the beach, beautiful pool and lobby. In the Northern part of South Beach so quite a bit quieter than staying on Ocean Ave. but still close enough to walk everywhere you'd want to go. The rooms could use an update with very thin walls and an extremely creaky bed. As a result, my girlfriend and I probably scared the kids in the next room over. Also, be aware that any food and beverage item purchased on the property incurs an automatic 18% gratuity. We discovered quickly that this appears to be standard in Miami. In the hotel restaurant, this also included the buffet which doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering you serve yourself. Drinks are also ridiculously overpriced. Expect to pay over $15 for any cocktail with the tip already added. The staff was very nice and addressed any needs we had in a kind and professional manner. Overall, a nice stay but you might expect a little bit more at this price point. If you don't plan on spending too much time in your room and have no problem with $15 cocktails, this is a great hotel based on the location, pool and staff. On that basis, I would recommend it.

We loved the beautiful swimming pool and the beach with lounge chairs provided. The rooms and bathroom were really small. We loved the location of the national hotel in south beach. It was convenient to shops and the beach was lovely. The pool was beautiful and the beach setup with lounge chairs and cabana boys was very nice. The rooms were very small and the bathroom was tiny.

Bathroom small and shower not ideal... definately not romantic. Room was clean. Hotel grounds very nice. The pool was terrific -- better than other hotels nearby. With the exception of Friday night happy hour by the pool, the night scene was better at the Delano. Great location for walking to other hotels and restaurants/bars on Lincoln Road. Good balance of small luxury hotel and art deco/boutique hotel.

Girls vacation with sisters, daughter, and friend- I shared a room w/my two sisters. The hotel was sold out, so we were forced to endure two nights in a room that had a mildewy and toxic smell. But when a room opened up, we got moved to a nicer room on the pool. The staff were very friendly and tried to help whenever possible.

Modern deco decorum. I didn't get a king size bed, as booked. Initially, I had a some trouble with the hotel - they wouldn't give me a room with a king size bed although I had booked for that. They wouldn't give me a discount for not giving me a room with a king size bed. Then the room I was given had a leak from the a/c vents. The first attendant wouldn't help me with this saying only she would send someone to my room to fix the leaking (but do nothing about the wet floor). I demanded to speak with a manager who completely understood and put me in a different room. Other than that, I would give this hotel thumbs up. The rooms are a little small, but that's authentic south beach. The rooms and the hotel are nicely decorated. The restaurant was better than expected, quite well really. And the location is great.

The hotel is in the perfect spot (between the Ritz Carlton and Hotel Delano) with a great pool and beach access. They have the BEST beach and pool lounge chairs with wonderful service. The rooms are very nice with very comfortable beds. The only thing is the bathrooms in the main hotel are really small. They said the hotel was built in 1940 and only the poolside cabana rooms have larger bathrooms. They are much pricier, so for what we paid it was worth it.

Hotel empty but put in worse room of hotel. Room thermostat did not work and hotel mgmt set wake up call one hour early in addition to correct time. I complained but they said they couldn't get a hold of a manager. Also the clerk said they would not charge me for valet and or facility fee ($48 additional still hit card)

Beachfront property, close to shopping, great staff. Smaller rooms, high drink prices. I had a great stay at the national. I was traveling solo and found it to be comfortable and affordable overall (minus the drink prices). Great hotel for couples, next to Delano and other major hotels. Nice pool area for tanning and beach is staffed for you as well. Great hotel, I¿d stay again.

We stayed at the National for a few days just before Christmas. Had a great time. Staff was very friendly everywhere, pool, beach, lobby, etc. Nobody was begging for tips or being rude like other review have mentioned. Everyone was very cool. Pool was great, beach was amazing. Hotel has nice comfy loungers on the best part of the beach. Hotel is in walking distance to almost all restaurants, bars, clubs, lounges, coffee shops. Only downer is that parking is expensive, so if you don't want to pay it, just park in the garage next to Lincoln Rd for* per night and walk 2 or 3 blocks...you won't need your car anyway! My wife and I loved it...enjoy!

The National Hotel was a good choice for our long weekend stay. Everyone was very courteous and friendly. The room was very clean and I loved the linens (soft and fresh). We were able to walk to most places and there were tons of restaurants nearby. I would have liked the room to be a little bigger since the loveseat was kind of tight. One of the things I loved the most was the very cold air conditioning in our room! Overall, it was a very nice experience and I would do it again.

We went to Miami (South Beach) many times, we go there 4-5 times a year. We stayed at many hotels there, as De Soleil, Bentley Beach, etc. We never had a bad time as this time here. We booked a "City View" room cause the ocean view room was 100$ more expensive. We were in the room # 1112 (corner room) 11th floor... Still hearing traffic and car horns and drunk people shouting loud in the street... This noisy jungle have ended at 2am to start back at 9am!!! So we ask the front desk if they were able to change our room for an ocean view room, they give us a good price, ** extra per night (2 other nights already prepaid with travelocity). They give us the room #807 wich was exactly the same as the city view one exept the view, the ocean! We went to bed at 11pm, everything was perfect except one thing, the room just beside us was kind of a weird young couple. They went back to their room (#806) at 4h30am crying and fighting so loud! As the time they get out of the elevator until they get in their room, and continue this big crisis for at least 30minutes. We decide to call the security, they've sent somebody quickly, about 2minutes later. But the security first knock at our room to ask us from wich room was the noise coming, lol! Then he knocks at their room to tell us to stop the noise... bla bla bla... and then he comes back in our room to tell us that if there was something else we just have to call the front desk!!! Well, all this have ended at 5h30am. Next night was exactly the same.

My lady and I spent three nights at this beautiful location. Our new room was located by the pool and had a nice balcony with a table and chairs. Needless to say, the rest of our weekend was relaxing and beautiful. With the beach right behind the hotel, the hotel full services on the beach including towels, chairs, umbrellas and even drinks provided by a waiter who was taking orders. With all the amenities, there was little need to leave the hotel, except for maybe a bite to eat or an enjoyable walk.

Interior public areas and exterior were beautiful, renovated Art Deco. The room smelled somewhat musty and the windows do not open. The National offers quality service and beautiful Art Deco style. I reserved an ocean view room and was upgraded to a suite for the same price. I chose the National because an excellent rate in comparison to the rates for other periods was offered on the date I stayed (a Tuesday in early April). A very comfortable bed and clean room. I took advantage of very few amenities, as I was there only one night on business, so I cannot comment on those. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

When choosing a hotel, my priorities are location, cleanliness, comfort and security. This hotel had it all and more. It is right on the beach and a few blocks away from great clubs and restaurants. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated with a comfortable bed. The staff was very helpful, prompt and pleasant. Everyone we talked to smiled and was very nice. The pools were awesome. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and spotless. The outside area had lots of comfortable sofas, chaises and chairs to lounge in. The day we checked out, we stayed and hung out on the beach. The hotel allowed us all beach and pool privileges which was very handy. That included towels and chaises for the beach and pools and a restroom. It was so relaxing. Thanks National Hotel, we'll see you again soon!

I really enjoyed staying at the National. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. The service was excellent. The hotel has a very pleasant smell when you walk in. The hotel is located near the restaurant and it is a walking distance from the shopping. It is very convenient for us to walk around the area and there are convenient store very close to our hotel like CVS and Walgreen. My frinds and I really enjoyed the pool, it is beautiful at night, we also took so many pictures of the pool. We felt safe while we stayed because if you want to get into the hotel from the beach side, you'll need your room card to swipe in and the door will open just like when you try to get into your room, that's really impress us. We paid a reasonable rate and we definitely will come back to stay at the National. It is one of the best hotel we had stayed.

I think the parent company for this hotel chain likes to renovate old hotels with modern comforts since their Chicago hotel is very similar. The pools and outdoor areas are terrific, staff was great, and you can't beat the location. Don't expect the big Vegas style rooms and bathrooms, but they're very charming, comfortable, and clean.

Having never been to Miami befoe, I did my homework and ended up at the National. The location was perfect, the staff was delightful and the price was right. The National is right where the action is, within easy walking distance to great restaurants and shopping. Room service was efficient and delicious, although I didn't have the opportunity to eat at Tamara, the onsite restaurant. The room was on the small side, but completely adequate, and was clean and had daily maid service and nightly turn down with chocolates. Bed linens were much better than average and, coupled with a very comfortable bed, it made for a wonderful night's sleep. Poolside service was terrific, thanks especially to Carlos, and those privileges extended to the beach as well. All staff were extremely helpful and friendly, kudos to Andi at the concierge desk! The only glitch I experienced was occasionally with the wireless internet service and that could have been in part because of my computer. I have stayed in wonderful hotels many different places and all in all, this was a wonderful experience and good value for the money. I booked my rate through Travel agency at 199/night. I would recommend this hotel to my friends and family.

Check in probably took about 30 or 40 minutes. Eventually got a room by the pool but the whole hall area, etc. appeared to be in renovation. Always wanted to stay based on curb appeal but wasn't all that impressed.
